Are horror movies becoming more pathetic year after year?
I can't say I'm necessarily a fan of horror movies, but from research on some of these movies coming out, I wonder why they even make them.
For instance, look at the original Nightmare on Elm Street or The Exorcist. Those movies ****ed with you psychologically. They dug into your head and made you wonder... what if that happened to you? How would you get passed that?
Then, look at movies this year. Piranha 3D, Final Destination 4, Apollo 18. These movies were terrible and the concept was stupid. Not saying that they couldn't be enjoyed, but there wasn't much "horror" in these movies. Paranormal Activity 3 is doing fairly good critic-wise, however. So you do get a few good ones out of the pile.
I can't say that horror movies used to all be scary. Because you do get a bunch of stupid ones, like The Gingerbread Man, Santa's Slay and The Leprechaun. However, newer horror movies coming out seem to be a hit or miss, yet mostly a miss.
How do you guys feel about horror movies coming out? Are they becoming more pathetic? Are they trying to be more gory and corny than terrifying?
I did see one of the Halloween movies. Just a bunch of screaming and random deaths.
Poor decisions being made and stupid people not doing anything.
That's why I'm a fan of movies that mess with you psychologically-- you can't escape it and there aren't a bunch of random, gory deaths.
The thing with psychological horror movies is that you can easily defeat them. Literally every single Nightmare of Elm Steet movie was solved by somebody deciding to man up and use a little bit of intelligence rather than running or hiding like a little girl.
Here's the IMDb summary:
"An aging porn star agrees to participate in an "art film" in order to make a clean break from the business, only to discover that he has been drafted into making a pedophilia and necrophilia themed snuff film." http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1273235/
Or you can try playing Amnesia: The Dark Descent(it's on Steam)
It's some pretty scary ****, physiologically.
I never cared much for horror movies. They all seem to be unrealistic, involving supernatural beings and whatnot. It's not scary if the circumstances aren't believable. And the characters are all stupid, helpless victims. I can't respect or relate to characters like that. I've yet to see a horror movie that I actually like.
Edit: I think I just realized that a horror movie where the characters aren't stupid, helpless victims is called an action movie.
The shining has probably been one of my favorite movies. Its pretty old and not so much horror as it is a psychological thriller, but it was extremely good. I recommend it to anyone who's into that.

Insidious contained no gore, just some bloody hand prints. I LMAO'd through that movie though. It was scarier after you forgot the exact plot, but if you re-watch parts on Youtube it is effin hilarious.

That thing messes with you.
Chuck Norris clicked this. Clicking it causes you to do what he did. Be like Chuck Norris.
No, just no.
That movie is so lame.

OT: I've never really liked horror films. They are pointless to me.
I just Wikipedia'd "A Serbian Film".
Holy ****.
