Thing is, Atheist rarely ever try to " de-convert " religious people. We merely state our views and opinions, and bring forward the evidence/reason why we believe what we believe. I personally don't care whether you turn Atheist because of something I said. It's religious people that take arguments as trying to " de-convert " them. Really, we don't care.
EDIT: Saying " Thank God " doesn't mean we believe in a God. I say it from time to time but only because I'm used to it. I was raised Catholic. I'm beginning to say " Thank Science " more often, though.
That's because religion itself makes no sense. No use giving it so much thought.
But ya' know, I'm an Atheist who takes any opportunity to attack religion. So don't listen to me.
Taking an opportunity to attack religion is taking time away from your life, life is a thing you only have for a relatively short amount of time (Around 80 years.), so tell me, if you're so obsessed with a loss of consciousness after you die, why do you waste your time fighting those with another opinion.

Inb4 human nature.
Yeah, because taking 10 to 15 seconds out of my life is SUCH a loss. [sarcasm/]

Meh. Honestly, life is too long!
Once you hit a certain age, you're not doing anything anymore. You've retired, your kids have moved out, and you might live alone. As I like to say, boredom leads to depression, so I don't know how old people do it.
I agree with this man, if somebody is an atheist you should be fine with that, you just look like an annoying brat when you don't. I'm a christian, lutheran to be specific, but I still think others should be allowed to beleive what they want.
What I don't like is atheists trying to make religious people more atheists, if you hate the idea of god so much why do you spend time you could be living your life trying to de-convert them.
I always hated when people said that.
"if you hate the idea of athiest trying to de-convert people so much why do you spend time you could be living your life trying change them."
Why do people go to work?
Why do people take daily walks?
Why do people stay fit?
Why do people believe in religion?
Why do goth do goth things?
Why do people feel the need to fight?
Why do people become teachers?
Why do people have sex?
Why do people go on the internet?
Why do people become sailors?
Why?
You've already said the answer.
Don't see it?
"if you hate the idea of god so much why do you spend time you could be living your life trying to de-convert them."
"....you could be living your life....."
It's exactly what I'm doing, what the goths are doing, what the bronies are doing, what the scientist are doing, what everyone in their life is doing. They're living their lives.
Op, the reason you cannot imagine what it is like to have "nothing" after death is because existing is the only thing you know how to do.
Remember what it was like before you were born? No. You do not. This goes with death.
(sorry if this has been covered before, but I'm not reading the entire thread)
Morals.
Without religion society would still progress normally IMO. Without morals we would be savages quick and simple. Marriage is also something I believe in although I do believe that divorce should be kept as a last resort but that is another debate.
Morals...?
Religion does influence morality, while some do.
I have no idea what you are talking about here, as there are plenty of terrorists and militant groups from religion. Most are peaceful, but then again, it's just most.
I am an atheist. I will respect someone's decision to worship a deity/deities and will gladly take part in friendly debates but no more. I don't knowingly try and get people to change their religious belief either. I just personally think there are too many holes in religions. I will however say that there is one great thing that comes from religion.

Oh look, this post again.
Religions didn't brings morals, it brought rules which enforced morals onto people.
I can't stand that people are proud of being an Atheist.
Why would you tell other people to become an Atheist? Why? If you don't believe in anything it is useless to 'help' people by making them Atheist? I don't think that is 'helping'. It is just destroying religion without a reason.
HAHA! So why do people spread religion then? And they cant spread atheism? Your theory is invalid ^^
And nobody is saying here "be atheist, its awesome"..
I am Jewish and at my school, almost everyone is Catholic. But when you say "God," do you mean Jesus, or the god of creation, or both, or both as one? Because I'm not entirely sure what Christians believe because they say they're monotheistic, but I'm confused if they worship both because then they wouldn't be...
SO CONFUSED.
Judaism is really sort of explainable.
Homosexuality-
The Jews were outnumbered, and had to come up with a way to create more spawns. What did they know? Having sex makes babies. What did they also know? Anal sex does not make babies and it is the sex most gays have. With them being outnumbered, they really needed more people and showed people that homosexuality was a disgrace.
Masturbation-
The Jewish also thought that semen was human "seed." So every time you masturbate(this really only appeals to males) you are killing a child. Since God told them not to kill, they thought "spilling your seed on the ground" was an evil act.
Pork-(I forgot about my username. Maybe I should delete this because I don't want people to start eating me D:)
Simply enough, there was a disease going around in pork.
This is all I can think of off the top of my head, but most of it is pretty explainable. Christianity really gets mixed up though, since God tells people not to kill, though inspires people to kill and kills people at his will. Christ says he is not abolishing the old profits but merely recreating them, which means they are partially still in affect. Yeshua never clarifies what he meant, and has left the bible there for misinterpretation for years.

Many atheists feel dominant for having large egos about their intelligence. That's mainly the reason why some are proud.
Another thing:
1. What do you mean about spreading religion? Religion can help people in many ways, though I think faith shouldn't be used to determine the state of the universe and where we're going when we die, though still can have a placebo affect.
2. Atheism may feel like an epiphany for some as they realize "There is no god!" There is nothing wrong with spreading atheism, but when it comes to being proud of it it's usually ego.

<- Please. ._.
I'm not directly referring to you, I am mainly referring to militant ahteists, some idiot atheists suggested taking over the world.
We fight because it is genetically impossible for most humans not to. Like I said, human nature.

I'm Atheist, yet I know that murder is wrong.
Surprise.
Religion didn't establish morals.

Even tho im a human i guess itll be hard to prove you that im not an alien.. hmm :7
I guess idc xD
When did I say that?
I know, but most atheists feel egoistic about their intelligence. They may be intelligent, but boasting is still annoying.
