If technology was progressed far enough that cybernetic implants are commonly accepted as being "safe" would you use them? Or would you want your body to remain 100% organic? What if the implants could extend your lifespan? I believe this is an interesting question because there is an issue of morality and (to some degree) paranoia. At what point do we stop being people and become machines?
As some of you might have guessed... I'm watching Ghost in the Shell right now. :tongue.gif:
Getting some great poll results. I didn't expect this thread to flare up so well...
I don't know how I feel about cybernetics. Particularly brain augmentation. I suppose I'd be fine with arm/leg enhancements... or replacements for failed internal organs (liver, heart, etc). But the brain... I don't think I'd want brain enhancements. I'd be too afraid of someone hacking into my brain somehow.
Something that modifies my eyes to put nameplates above my friend's heads, Forced sleep (I take atleast 30 minutes to fall asleep), A lifespan expander, Brain Ipod, and exhaustion coolant (That lets me run without getting tired)
Forced sleep and exhaustion coolant are definitely possible with our tech.
I don't know, I might want a brain implant. It sounds cool, but anyone know about the loyalty program from Supreme Commander? I get a feeling that would happen.
But I would get modifications to my body.
I would take anything aside from brain implants. And it'll probably happen in my lifetime. We've already created basic cybernetic limbs, for lack of a better name, and technology development is INCREDIBLE. Just take a look at how much data capacity they promise within our machines. Apple is selling 64GB iPods. Various companies have pulled off terabyte hard drives. Now think back ten years or so. We had computers with hard drives varying from 1GB to 10GB. Something tells me technological advancement is moving pretty freaking quickly.
The only implant that I would get unless i needed it to live was an implant to let me axcess and control computers (and who knows mabey I can hack it to let me control other peoples implants and mindsif they have a mental implant) and can use my own mental processes as an antivirus.

Warning, Care not given. Click it, cuz I am bored:
I'd rather be as much machine as possible excluding any brain modifications. I think of it as being practical. Normally if your arm is mangled or your spine is damaged that isn't getting replace and you're crippled forever. If an organ fails and you're lucky enough to get a donor from someone who had to die first you may have to remain on immunosuppression meds for the rest of your life. While if a machine part breaks you rip that off and slap on a replacement part. There is also the option of redundant systems(something else the body lacks in all vital places).
Well, as long as they're not from Sony. We wouldn't want our internal organs being hacked, now would we?
Then we could get a massive update to download every 20 minutes that locks out functionality, and if you choose not to update, you're locked out of different functionality.

Or Microsoft, we don't want people getting RROD'd, now would we?

The Red Ring of Death would be the equivalent to erectile dysfunction.
Then we would have Microsoft Viagra commercials.
And we don't want those.

Or apple if you don't want your eyes shut off remotely for looking at non apple approved images.
Solution
