Um, BC_Programming, Andromeda is set to smash into us in a mere 4.5 billion years. Though I could be wrong.
If Science is right, we'll only have a few collisions when it hits, so the Earth should still be around when the sun turns Supergiant. :smile.gif:
Well, for us we are the centre of the observable universe. Since the big bang was 14 billion years ago, we can only see 14 billion light years away.
We can see farther than 14 billion light-years because the universe is expanding. The edge of the observable universe is approximately 46-47 billion light-years in all directions.

Even if the biblical god appeared right in front of me, I would still disagree with him on many things and refuse to worship him, just acknowledge his existence.
I'm sure an omniscient being would do a good job convincing you otherwise just through conversation.
Even if the biblical god appeared right in front of me, I would still disagree with him on many things and refuse to worship him, just acknowledge his existence.
Agreed, I don't believe in some of the things Christ taught or the biblical god taught. Of course, he never really taught anything besides through Jesus unless you count the Old Testament.
I had this same conflict once, then I thought this one statement, "What the hell, does it even really matter why we're here? Or even HOW we got here? If there is a god would he just want us to be worshipping him and all that crap? Wouldn't he want us to just live our lives? And if there isn't, so what? Just have some fun, find someone you will love and want to stay with forever, why should I be caring about all this crap? Why give a crap about religion?"
But yes, what you said WOULD prove it, but it is nearly impossible to do that.
EDIT:But yes, translation:Don't give a fck about religion, and that would prove it if it we did that somehow.
Also, just wanted to say this, there are many bigger theories out there :3 I would read into all of them before actually making a decision. I chose a very complicated one that deals alot with time. Which I partially made up myself. But it's based off of what other people have proven and thought of.
So to start, lets go to the time of jesus (no im not a religious freak or anything) he said that god created everything, now, why I belive this, jesus did a tom of miraculs and stuff. now my theroy about the entire thing-god was the one who started the big bang and enflation and all that good stuff. now, i also belive that something, like the univerce, can only get so big before it either
1. stops getting bigger.
2. bursts.
so lets go with theory 1. it stops getting bigger, well, not much. you get the idea.
now lets switch to theory 2. it bursts. well lets say it dose burst, what would happen? really and endless amount of posibilitys.
1. we reach heavens edge by drifting forever if we lose orbit.
2. POOF everything is gone, the sun gose out were all dead.
3.asuming we take the sun with us...we drift to a diffrent univerce, from there who knos what!
alright, now lets say god is behind all this and we cant explain much about it.
well, obviously some things could come out of it.
1. we really will never know and were just here to worship god.
2. god over did us and we will find out posibly ginst gods will.
3. combination of the above
4. god dosent like us knowing all the great stuff he did and kills off the humans.
I watched a documentary on this yesterday, the Big Bang makes no sense at all. Steven(sp?) Hawking says in the documentary that the universe expands outward from a central point, but if we were to reach the center time no longer exists. Yet he also states the Big Bang would not have happened yet, once we reached that point.. seriously wtf is he on? If it did not happen then, why would anything exist now?
It's just that a theory, that obviously has issues. He as well stated things spawn at random in the sub-atomic level, and says that somehow disproved God.. but never explains how, who's to say God is not creating those things(atoms)? There are many things science cannot explain, like if these atoms appear randomly on a sub-atomic level what created the laws in our current universe? Is every single law completely random to make it physical? Lol, to many variables are precise down to our oxygen levels/hydrogen/etc.. to all be random. He also further states that since time does not exist at a sub-atomic level that God therefore would never have existed, but who's to say God was not there all along.. time would not matter to Him either, wheras Hawkings knowing so much about God says he would not have..
my theory, about most stuff
If your Christian, please read the bible lmao. We would nor would anything in this universe reach heaven or hell, it's basically an alternate demension(the multi-verse theory is closer to reality). Also God being infinate could make the universe expand forever, it will not one day explode or "run out of room."
Hey guys, I've been reading up on philosophies,as i've been having inner conflicts whether or not to be atheist or theist, and i have a question about the theory of the Big Bang. It states that it is infinitely expanding, and, at this very moment, it is still stretching outwards, carrying galaxies, solar systems, and cosmos with it. IF this is true, and we had the required technology, would measuring the distance from our solar system to the center of the universe, recording, than doing it 100 years later, prove anything?
let's say our Sun, is exactly eighty kagillion light years from the center of the universe.
the next century, it is eighty kagillion, and 3 tenths, from the center of the unvierse.
Would this help in proving the universe is constantly expanding, and stretching? sorry if this seems a little...tongue in cheek. I'm in the 8th grade.
The very first thing I noticed, is you talking about the 'center of the universe.'
There isn't a center of the Universe. My favorite analogy is Raisin bread. When you roll the dough, it is compact with all the raisins close together. When you put it in the oven, and it rises, they all move apart. But there isn't a single point of expansion. You can pick any of the raisins and the bread itself seems to be expanding from that one point. Pick another one, same thing. Any point you choose is the center. This is the same with the Universe. If you pick any point, everything seems to be moving away from it.
We know that it's moving by its 'Redshift.' When something is moving toward you, it appears blue because the wavelength is being shortened. When something is moving away from you, it appears red because the wavelength is being lengthened. But this is a different subject. By telling how long or short the wavelength is we can figure out how fast it is moving away or towards from us. This can be done by taking a spectra of the galaxy in question.
It don't think you meant this tongue in cheek. If it was tongue in cheek than I wouldn't take it at face value. It's a valid question, and not humorously intended.

Yet the entire point of the Big Bang is there is a center of the Universe..
It's a pretty established feature in Big Bang cosmology.
Well I was stating Steven Hawkings views(very recent video from 2011), however again theories . Sad when the top theoretical physicist's cannot agree.
It's just that a theory, that obviously has issues.
The only issue here is that you don't understand it or what was said. You also don't know what it means for something to be a theory.
Well I was stating Steven Hawkings views(very recent video from 2011),
Excellent, the is on YouTube, so you'll be able to point out exactly where he says these things just so we can make sure you actually understood it properly. And if you didn't, you can be corrected.
Sad when the top theoretical physicist's cannot agree.
You apparently also don't understand how science works. There are a lot of things physicists don't agree on. String theory, supersymmetry, etc. But the mechanics of the moments after the big bang is not one of them. But disagreement is good. It means there's many ideas and it means these ideas will be challenged and will have to withstand major scrutiny to become accepted.

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by incompetence.
Err, saying 'there is no center of the universe' is a bit misleading.
The "center" is just not within our 'observable' universe. Like saying ultraviolet isn't within our 'visible' spectrum. It doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it just means we can't see it. While UV is real, we just aren't sure about a 'center' of the universe.
But anyone can see in the raisin bread metaphor that the center of the dough is the center of the bread. As well, anyone can see that a 'singularity' can be a 'center of origin', it all just depends then where that 'center' has gone.... or more correctly where space has expanded us to from that original point, if there indeed is one.
We aren't even really sure that the universe is even consistent outside of the observable part... for all we know it could get really crazy out there beyond our observable area and we just don't know it. Making our 'Big Bang' really only true for us. Or possibly, the Big Bang is not even true... as there ARE alternatives to the Big Bang theory.
Perhaps... we just don't know! That's the great thing about science. When we don't know something that means there is TONS more to explore! But we definitely shouldn't make assumptions. There may or may not be a center.
I've read over 3000 pages on the Big Bang Theory and took a college astronomy class, hopefully I'll remember to check this thread.

Nope. Not really. It's called metric expansion of space.
