We must be talking about different, simultaneous earthquakes. The earthquake from Virginia couldn't have any effect on D.C.
I live 90 miles from D.C, and only felt a short shake. If it originated in virginia D.C would not be evacuating as the distance is surely more then 90 Miles.

According to the US Geological Survey, there was an earthquake in Virginia at 1:51PM. No quakes reported in DC. Also a 5.8 is a pretty large quake, and would be felt for miles.

The earthquake originated in Washington D.C. The scale of the earthquake was 5.3 or something like that.
Anyway, they are currently evacuating the whitehouse and the pentagon.
Discuss.
I felt that all the way up in mid-NewYork!
Source please.
I thought the earthquake originated in the mountains of virginia, 3.7 miles underground.
The end is nigh
A call from the state or maryland informed us that the Capital was the source, and that they are currently evacuating.
The Baltimore news also informed my family of this.
