I swear, there's a new end of the world prediction every 3 years. I remember one similar to this in the early 90's. Since the news wasn't yet 24/7, it didn't get much attention. Also, the internet didn't feed it because no one really used it.
Then there was the end of 1999. I told my friends it was fake, and after nothing happened, I said, "told you so". They replied with, "well now you can say that since nothing happened" as though I hadn't been saying it the whole time.
The 21st century has been great. I think this is the first end of the world prediction I've heard about. Then there's the one next year. A few years later, science is providing us with a possible scenario. So, we have a few coming. Lots of opportunities to act smug if that's your thing.
Flipping channels to see of some nutters did an mass suicide. I read that this American family with really young kids quit their jobs and everything to prepare for the rapture. Their whole world is going to fall to bits coming Sunday, sad really.
People are easily misguided. It is because of the somewhat-common-to-normal-people way of submitting to authority.

It's super effective!
Pointless thread has fainted!
the world will end in about 50-60 years, due to massive over populations and the fact that the world can no longer support us as humans. although when i say it will end i use that term loosely because what most likely will happen is that all governments will collapse and millions if not billions will die, but some will live and restart their lives.
maybe we will be living on a distant planet by then :smile.gif:
Whale's.
There gonna grow leg's march ashore and systematically slaughter us humans from coast inwards.
And you can blame it all on the Japaneses and there whaling.

Overpopulation is a myth. Spacial inequality is the problem.

I don't really care for it at all. I also don't see what makes it so funny either. "The world will end this sunday instead." Does that make monday funny? Oh the pointlessness of labels and false words.

I'm with the speedrunning community and this [below] is a semi-annual charity marathon we hold.
We might run into problems with running out of oil though...
We will some day develop fusion that is cheap enough to be used as an energy source.
And now that drilling in oceans is cheaper and easier, oil reserves will not be depleted for a VERY long time.

I don't mean for energy, I meant crude oil as a physical resource. It's in like.... everything.
Wait... what? I think you maybe misunderstood my post. I was saying that I haven't seen anyone suggest that all Christians believe the whole May 21 2011 thing. That's all. Clearly if that has been suggested somewhere the person stating it is very stupid. But I, personally, haven't seen any evidence of that misconception.
Sorry, it just seems like most people here are making generalizations and assuming all Christians believe it. It seemed like you were saying that there isn't evidence saying that a small minority believes it.
Good job ignoring all other aspects of the problem like availability of arable land, distribution, non-adoption of improved strains, sustainability, etc, etc
Oh I did. Sorry. Can you enlighten me? I'm actually quite interested to learn.

I can't WAIT til tomorrow.
The failure of the end to come is going to make for some great comedy.
Always open to critique and suggestions. (:

No, the world's not going to end, some moron is just REALLY desperate for attention.

Interesting list of failed doomsdays.

Yes. We have estimated that about 100 years worth of crude oil.
