If you believe creationism, you're delusional.
<snip>
Gee thanks, that's like saying
If you're an atheist, you're retarded.
Doesn't matter who's right, no one listens to an insult.
I stopped reading here to post this because im SOO ****ING SICK of creationists saying "Oh well if you're gonna down talk us, we wont talk to you athiests" and then they go on and downtalk EVERYTHING except the bible's word, which couldnt possibly have been changed in the 6k years they believe the worlds been around, could it? I can do it with a pen, and would if i didnt have respect for every religion.
I stated that no matter who you were you can't reason with an insult. I mean really, READ THE ENTIRE THING.
I didn't even say I was right, I stated that no matter who you are, you don't take an insult for a reason.
Perhaps we need a new word for "acceptance of and adherence to a position is probably true." I suggest something Latin-y. Unless your friend Heidegger already came up with one in German.
Hypothesis (ὑπόθεσις) is a good Greek word for the task.
"I hypothesize that evolution is true."
See? No overzealous Dawkins-crazed dogmas asserted with that.
Ah, that is a good word indeed. The only complaint I think I can make is that I think of hypothesizing as stating that something is possible, but not necessarily probable, or at least that it's an explanation worth consideration. But nitpicking will get us nowhere fast. :smile.gif:
@cardgame:
The theory regarded as an attack on religion in that respect would be abiogenesis, yes?

Hypothesis are informed, so they are always at least somewhat possible.
Take evolution, for example. Of all scientific theories, it has the most evidence backing it up! That's a huge claim, but it's true!
What does that mean for evolution? It's the most probable explanation for how life came to be as it is now. =)
See how different that is from belief, though? Belief is certainty. Science, good science, natural philosophy, is always inherently uncertain.
Ok? You're not as delusional as the rest. Congratulations. To believe that there is a creator is enough, but to believe that the creator of the universe, the perfect, all knowing, creator of the universe, actually wrote a book? And a mediocre one at that. If god is perfect, why would he give us this cryptic, poorly written ******** to interpret? Wouldn't he know that his poor writing would cause argument, and doubt? Obviously he would. It's just a rediculous notion.
Just to get you red in the face.
Ron Paul is a creationist. Look it up.
Also, his son is named Rand. Rand. As in Ayn Rand. The crazy one. With the insane economic philosophy. You can look that one up, too.
The point: Nobody is consistent and reasonable. Not even you.
Ahaha, Rand. That gives me a good chuckle. I remember looking over Objectivism on wikipedia and just about nonstop laughing.

Darn you and your convincing philosophy-speak. I see you though this through.
Hmm, we need a word for "philosophy-speak" too. I thought of Sophish at first, but it sounds awkward saying it.

I have always used "Hypotheses non fingo" in discussions of the Big Bang and Evolution, and the points of no explanations. Most of the time people just stare at me.

Its basic and makes a hell alot more sense than:

I don't think you've actually taken the time to sit down and study the bible. In fact, have you even read it for more than five minutes?

I went to a Christian school and even then I didn't think it sounded right, the first time I heard about evolution I though to myself "it makes a helluva lot more sense".

Kind of like me.
I used to go to a christian school, even thought the idea of god impregnating Mary with "magical sperm" sounded stupid.
If you want the bible to make sense, you have to be willing to study it and take your time with it. I think most athiests here will read or have read the bible and consider it to be "********" or "garbage" because they told that to themselves from the beginning. You have to have an open mind when dealing with things like this.

No no no, sophism is completely opposed to philosophy. Sophism is pretending to be wise when you are not. Philosophy is trying to be wise when you are not.

A belief is something that you hold to be true. Faith is a belief without reason.
According only to Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens and (maybe) Daniel Dennet.
That definition is, simply put, a strawman. Faith is almost always based on reason.

Delusion- A false belief, or statement.
They, quite literally, are delusional.
