Ive gone to a few of their festivals and have been wondering if i should join? also, if anyone here is in it, could you tell me what its like being in it? Ive got some friends who also might join. What im also wondering is, is it expensive. i mean, is the equipment alot?

I'm not in the SCA myself but I know several people who are and they love it. Gear can be really expensive or you can make your own, which is a hell of a lot cheaper if you have the supplies to make it with. All things considered, armor-making isn't exactly common, and it's incredibly time-consuming so armor, especially chainmail, can get very expensive. As far as weapons go, you get what you pay for.

Enjoy what you can, or want, to of the SCA wide range of activities - I learnt archery and period catering through the SCA, was great fun.
If offered a position of authority in the SCA, politely refuse.
Burn out factor of SCA officials is very high!
Expense is variable, depends how fancy you want to get in persona, or if you want to be a stickjock in armour.
Avoid SCA politics at all cost, it gets unpleasant and personal real quick.
If you are located in USA, I suggest checking out the Mongol Horde if you want a fun bunch to try out...
