It should never happen, EVER.
The human race should never escape Earth to spread it's iniquity elsewhere.
Why would lifeless chunks of rock care if we did or didn't? The only thing that would care would be other life, which is of course going to have its own sins to be misanthropic about.

The human race has it's own freaking planet, it shouldn't go and ruin others.
I don't think we should spend a large amount of money on it at the moment, but maybe more so in the future. We have issues that need to be fixed and have money spent on here before we can take them to outer space.

What would be ruined? Planets don't care if we inhabit them. Only other life would care, and seeing as we don't see any there's no issue. And if we did make it to other life-filled planets, I wouldn't kid myself by saying we'd have authority over other intelligent life about what we can and cannot do. Right now, I can't even tell if you're acting serious or just being bitter for the sake of it.

How can we possibly ruin an uninhabitable planet? Must be the same kind of phenomenon that allows you to form words and sentences without using any thought whatsoever.

yes, because mars has SO MUCH going on for it right now. seriously, we gotta fly from the nest sometime, we got a whole universe to explore! what are we waiting on? politics just slows down space exploration.

Personally, I'm in between "Yes!" and "Half-way yes". I'd rather have had NASA not taken the budget cuts, but we need to cut off the fingers of nations that insist on using guns to settle internal and international disputes before any leaps of faith are made into the wasteland of space. That's just about a big part of the planet.
It's very important. Planets don't last forever, and at the rate we are jacking this one up, we're going to need another one soon. But the conventional wisdom of the day says: "**** it, let the next generation deal with it."

If we ever did end of getting to Mars, or beyond, one country wouldn't be going by itself.
If you think about it, the ISS has helped relations between America and post-soviet Russia. Imagine what a combined effort to land man on Mars would do between world wide relations.

Exactly, like it or not but countries will merge together when we have space colonies.

America inlcluded?
By "cut off the fingers" I mean take away the means of causing warfare (you can't pull a trigger without fingers). America would probably be included, along with the Middle East. The horribly unstable areas like Libya would also be in there. I'd rather China have some reforms, as well, but now I'm just ranting.
I just wonder when we'll be able to determine the simpler astronomical things like the sun's corona being hotter than the sun itself. And we think we can pilot light years away... :smile.gif:
Guys, I do not agree with this. We can fix a lot of our solutions by exploring space. It gives us a common goal.
That makes sense...giving nations like the US and Russia a common goal. I guess "world peace" isn't realistic or practical enough of a goal anymore, although something similar certainly could be established because of space travel. It's sort of like Star Trek when you think about it. xD

US and Russia already have a great relationship when it comes to space exploration. I believe world peace will be a fact when we explore space.
So, to Mars then. I have a question for everyone. I know there are two camps here and there was a pretty big debate over it.
How should we get there? Some people think we should build a moon base, then build the ship and prepare there. Others think we should launch from earth. What do you think makes the most sense?

I would definitely include America. We have been constantly involved in warfare since the Vietnam. I was just asking because I was wondering if you were one of those 'Defenders of Liberty' types, where America is exempt from criticism because, we're fighting for democracy, man.
