Hey, I'm programming a game and I need to know how damage is calculates. I'm only going to have 3 traits, health, attack and defence, and I can't think of how I would do it.
What they said. However, make sure that you're not going to add any modifiers such as locational damage, peircing damage or elemental effects before you set up the damage system. It's much easier to have all of that stuff in from the beginning then to add it as an afterthought and risk potentially breaking what you've already set up.
Of course, if you don't plan on having any of that stuff, then it's a nonissue.
Help?
If you want to be really simple, you could subtract the target's defense from the oncoming attack, then subtract that value from the target's HP.
This would be the easiest. 1 health = 1 damage = 1 defense.
Unless you want defense to be more viable than health or something. Play with it as you wish.
That is the anthem, the slogan, the summary of events
Of course, if you don't plan on having any of that stuff, then it's a nonissue.
