If a planet has an environment similar to Earth, the creatures that evolve there will be similar to those on Earth. Simple as that.
Obviously the grays, if real, came from a planet with an environment similar to Earth, because they have a form similar to that of organisms on Earth.
As for the second part, my point is that just because something is from a different evolutionary line DOESN'T mean it can't look and work similar to Earth organisms.
actually, evolution is as much a matter of chance as it is the environment. Grays are perfectly possible, but HIGHLY unlikely.
you earlier said that elephants came from a different evolutionary line, however that too is wrong. both humans and elephants evolved from the same roots. The Lungfish, the first known land creature, had similar organs to us, and both elephants and humans evolved from that. Aliens are from a COMPLETELY different evolutionary line, starting from scratch. They may not even have DNA like us.
Actually, the common ancestor of life on Earth was a microorganism, not a lungfish. The common ancestor of aliens was probably a microorganism as well, probably not much different from Earth's common ancestor. Also, it isn't really that unlikely for a creature to develop the ability to walk on two legs. And I never said grays evolved on another planet as they are now. They probably looked different in their past, maybe they even looked a lot like us, but as a result of their increased use of technology, they became what they are today.
I've always assumed that alien life would be some sort of organic energy or mineral or something- something far-out...
...and fake. Most definitely fake.

Microorganism part, fine. Similar to earth creatures, not quite. Why would it be similar to earth microorganisms? They exist purely as a lucky little chemical reaction that made something that can move on it's own, why should something as unpredictable as new life be exactly the same as life on our planet?
I said SIMILAR, not exactly the same. The very first organisms were so very simple that it really wouldn't be that far-fetched for something similar to develop on another world.
I didn't even MAKE this thread to argue, I made it to share with you guys a scary, albeit probably fake, video.
I just think you're underestimating how complicated the process of evolution from one cell to a full multi-celled organism with a brain and such, is. And personally, if we ever did make contact, I'd like to see something weird and new.
How? All I'm saying is that, if a planet is similar to Earth, organisms similar to Earth organisms could evolve there. Surely that makes sense?
And obviously the grays, if real, are a result of such circumstances. We can conclude that their planet is probably similar to Earth, because they have a physical appearance suited to an Earth-like planet.

Handsome hunk of alien.
Calzoneman: Word!
Although, another theory is that both videos were made for entertainment purposes, but some people mistook them for recordings of a real incident.
