I believe if there is a God, said God will judge me based on how I lived my life. Not on my following arbitrary rules awkwardly passed on through people, books or signs.
Therefore I'll live my life the best I can based on the morality which makes sense to me.

In religion, you must waste time praying to some guy in the sky to get to heaven. Thats why i just steer clear of religious stuff. I see it as crowd control!

I don't believe in religion. At all. No christianity. I just believe in a relationship with God, and that by sending his son down for payment of my sins that I'll be o.k. Not to force religion down any of anybodys throats. I believe the meaning of life is to just love people, that's all :smile.gif:

What I don't understand is why you think that a god exists, and beyond that, why you still choose the Christian god as the one you think exists.

it could be if that's what you want it to mean. The meaning of life is what you want it to be. If you want to take meaning out of a religious text than that's for you. If you'd rather you live life following strict adherence to science then so be it.
I think the most important thing is that we don't impose our life's goal upon others. I try to give people their space and leave them their beliefs. I may ask questions to provoke thought about their own beliefs or point out something I believe to be erroneous but if at the end of the day you I cannot convince you one way or the other then I leave people alone. The only philosophy I have problems with involve pushing belief upon other people "for their own good".

Katamari, where did I ever say that science will answer every question?
"And you say these are "things science can't answer"? Well just because we can't answer them now doesn't mean we never will. Furthermore, all of those questions HAVE been answered by science."
You have just shown that I did not say "science will answer every question". What I said was "just because we can't answer these questions now doesn't mean we will never be able to". There is a huge difference between these two statements.
The first states that no matter what question is posed to science, it will eventually have an answer. In no way shape or form did I say this.
In my ACTUAL statment, I say that it is wrong to assume that a question is unanswerable by science just because it has yet to be answered or cannot be answered now. In no way does that mean that every question WILL be answered, or that every answer CAN be answered. This was a counter statement to a claim of exclusion, not a claim of inclusion by itself.
If you can't understand the difference between these two quite different statements, then you are missing a few gears in your transmission, if you catch my meaning.
"If you place your bet with God, you lose nothing, even if it turns out that God does not exist. But if you place it against God, and you are wrong and God does exist, you lose everything."
"If you place your bet with God, you lose nothing, even if it turns out that God does not exist. But if you place it against God, and you are wrong and God does exist, you lose everything."
Pascal's Wager is bunk.
Firstly, it presents a false dichotomy, because if fails to take into account that humans have believed in over a million (or more) gods throughout time, and a decent portion of those also have punishments in the afterlife. You don't say "If you place your bet with Odin and die in battle, you lose nothing, even if it turns out that his mead hall does not exist. But if you place it against Odin, and you are wrong and Odin does exist, you lose the chance to join Odin in his mead hall.". It's equally as valid an option, and both it and Christianity are mutually exclusive.
Secondly, Pascal assumes that belief is an act of sheer will. I can't just -choose- to believe something that I think is false any more than I can -choose- to love getting anal raped. All that is left is for me to PRETEND to be a Christian, and I'm certain that any god woudl be able to realize I'm just going through the motions.
I am an Anti-fanatic Atheist, I am okay with people who live their lives for themselves and others. But Haters, people who hate or kill for religious, racial, or idiotic reasons. Animal Cruelty makes me want to torture those people who tortured those animals for laughs...Grrr...Gotta' hate 'dem haters.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
NO
the big bang theory does NOT cover the creation of space and or time just why it is expanding
Since you people seem to enjoy making this topic every few months, I'm going to issue the same blanket warning I do each time.
From this point on, anyone insulting anyone else's beliefs (or non-beliefs, however you look at it), or taking part in flame wars over this stuff, will be banned on the spot. The duration of this ban will depend on the severity of your actions. Even something as simple as "[specific belief followers] are idiots" will result in the banhammer swinging. If you're wondering why I'm taking more harsh of a stance on this than usual, just look through the past threads. If normal off topic stuff is kindling for flame wars, religion is C4.
"If you place your bet with God, you lose nothing, even if it turns out that God does not exist. But if you place it against God, and you are wrong and God does exist, you lose everything."
You sir are a genious.
Anserwing the question that GOd hates everybody and sends you to die, no. SUffering is because of sin. Ok? Suffering happens to you, so you can learn it or somebody else will be affected in a positive or negative way. God works for the good of all.
Is this supposed to be sarcastic? I can't tell in text. I also can't tell from the paragraph that follows because it doesn't make much sense. For what it's worth, Pascal's wager has already been debunked in this very topic, so it's not a valid argument.

Also, the whole idea of having one person run everyone's lives is just scary.
