The music is OK, I guess, but I absolutely cannot stand the lyrics in these songs. I no longer have any patience for people yelling about how Sonic 3 was the last real sonic and how the Wii doesn't have any good games already. Because they're wrong. Sonic 3 sucked and Mario Kart Wii is at least twice as good as Double Dash.

I saw this the other day, and the pokemon song made me depressed.
*sniff* I'ts all true!
But I love how the songs have little snidbits of the games, like for the pokemon, I could hear the pokemon center theme, cycling road, team rocket, etc.
And holding down the B button makes em win. I'm convinced.
All the original characters from that era were fine, and they had the decency to die or leave at the end of the game. Tikal and Chaos died, the Biolizard exploded, Rouge went back to government work. This is a conclusion, and it's exponentially better than Sonic Team's recent policy of "Introduce something with boobs, then never mention it again". ****ing Sonichu has more consistent writing than this.
Sonic Heroes/Shadow The Hedgehog's retconning of Shadow's death just because the furry emos needed fap material pissed me off so much. It cheapened the ending to what I regard as the single most fun game ever made. He was falling down to earth, on fire, in non-supermode. His lungs had exploded. But NOOO. EGGMAN'S ROBOTS SAVED HIM AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
Now we've got angsty hegehogs teleporting in from alternate dimensions. Half the new characters look like recolors of old ones. But, worst of all, not since SA2 has sonic been allowed to run. Much like Mario, Sonic can't go out and have an adventure any more. He has to have a million gimmicks that won't be mentioned again. Although, at least Mario has a long-running tradition of inside jokes. Sonic does not. Mario has better continuity than Sonic. And that's sad.
I can't comment on any recent games, to be honest, because I completely gave up after Sonic Riders.
Oh man that's a good one. Anyways, I would have to say the whole series began to go down after Sonic Adventure 2. Heroes was bearable and were it not for the terrible voice acting it would've been better...though Team Rose had the best theme tbqh.
I never played Shadow the Hedgehog but the title alone is enough to warrant a pass on the sole reason that it looked like Sonic Team's way of trying to make a "mature" Sonic game with a "deep" story. When after Shadow the Hedgehog and probably during it Shadow had as much personality as water.
Sonic 2006 was just awful, plain and simple. It had the controls of Sonic Adventure 1, the not being able to figure out where the hell I'm supposed to go of a Metroid game, and once again we find Sonic Team trying to put a deep story into the game. Not to downtalk Sonic Adventure 1 but yeah, even if for the time it was incredible that they brought Sonic into 3D and well. But it still had awful controls.
Anyways, I wouldn't say Shadow was the cause of the decline in quality...though he certainly coincides with it. I think Sonic Team should've just stuck with the Adventure series. I guess that was too much work for them though.
Honestly, I hold SA2 to be the only truly exceptional game of the series.
Except they didn't try. At all.
SA2B for gamecube (the remake if i'm not mistaken) was a sound game with few gameplay issues. The cutscenes SUCKED in acting and mechanics. If you change the language to Japanese, the cutscene timing lines up perfectly. They didn't even bother changing the timings and lipsync to work in english. That says enough about a game for me, I bought it for the gameplay alone.

You should. Contrary to the silly story and hoards of fanboys who were upset about the voice actors, it had pretty fun gameplay.

Listen to this guy's %117 album. He is so right about Shadow. The music isn't just funny, it's prooty hot as well.
The down fall of sonic games began with the "OMG SHADOW IS SO DE3P HE SO DEEP 2 DEEP 4 U" kids.

And the knuckles ghost boss :C :C :C :C
Biolizard was a hell of a twist, though.
