Please share some of your many sincere thoughts. In this thread, you will find the truth, whatever it may be.

I continually recall how the racism thread was closed when it became based in philosophy, but I had wanted to continue that discussion, or at least discussions on that level; I created this thread as the answer.
When I say philosophy, I am referring to a very broad range of thoughts, from thoughts on how things are going in life, to however far you can go down the rabbit hole. While I understand religion is a large influence in philosophy, I'd prefer if you did not announce your faith in here, lest it spark irrelevant discussion on more worldly matters.
I have a lot of topics to comment on, so I'll make brief statements on each. I may elaborate on each later with edits, should I decide to do so. I most likely will.
1) I think common courtesy and common sense are completely dying, and that hurts me. Perhaps all of the chaos in the recent generations has changed everything; perhaps these basic functions in society are becoming obsolete as they are pushed away from view by those who do not have them themselves. Bad things follow.
2) I think my generation has been terribly misguided, almost irreversibly. I feel both the last generation and my own are at fault (possibly generations before, as well), and this pattern will only get worse, left unhindered. The problem there is that it cannot be hindered, as the people that have the control in society and ability to do so are the ones causing the problem, and are oblivious to that fact. Bad things follow.
3) I believe mankind has lead itself down the entire wrong path with our completely man-made concepts, like the idea that land can belong to a particular man or that different groups of people should feel pitted against each other simply because they were born to different standards. There are endless numbers of ideas that I simply find wrong (pointing out that I find the next few quotes wrong. At least, I disagree with them). "Animals are people, too, and should thusly be treated like people." "Gay = okay" (I'm actually kind of sorry for this next one.) "Retards should be treated normally because they are just normal people." I suppose those statements are just me ranting about people I feel are inferior to normal people. Many people would argue that I am a bad person for thinking this, which brings me to my next point; (Bad things follow.)
4) Ideally, I would support the idea that everyone's thoughts can and should be considered equal. Unfortunately, the state of human society leaves me hesitant to do so. I have lost a lot of faith in others, though I know not everyone is a bad or unintelligent person. I see far too many bad an unintelligent people to feel safe about it, though. Bad things follow. I need an optimistic person in here.
----------------------------------
Now to the less worldly things
----------------------------------
1i) I believe in an afterlife. I have absolutely no proof to support it, no theory that suggest it should be so, and no reason it could be so. Sometimes when you feel like the right thing is true, it just is. People who understand that would probably agree. Realists may try to prove that once you die, electrical impulses in your brai-[INSERT SCIENCE HERE]. I feel that they have yet to be enlightened. If it is impossible to come back to life, why waste it trying to find out what death is like?
2i) I believe in non-religious transcendence. It's different for everyone. Some would call it enlightenment; when they realize everything, see all the answers blocked before. Almost as if you are born with a storm in your head, that disappears when you transcend. It does not happen at a moment, it happens over years and years, and is realized in a moment. I always hope I have achieved it, but every doubt brings me farther away from having done so. As briefly mentioned earlier, it is different for everyone. I imagine it being like a clear sky or open space where all the truth is before me, and there is no wrongdoing past that point. There is no specific trait to look for in a transcended person, but I imagine you'd know if someone was. I can elaborate no further.
3i) I'll put thoughts on something here when I think of it or someone mentions it.
----------------------------------
Everything is shared in this thread, from burdens to thoughts to emotions. It's possible, and even likely that no one will post here, but that possibility isn't affecting me much.
First, before I even step into this thing, If you don't like it, don't whine, don't hate, etc. He's(?) giving his Honest opinion, even if I don't agree with him 100%, he's fully entitled to share it, regardless of offense to others. I'm expecting a rage over the "gay=okay" part of the post. You'll merely look like a full for raging over something like that. Let's be civil, hopefully this will help us do so.
I'm busy, but I'll definately be back.

I haven't the time nor the energy (Despite it being only around 8PM here, I woke up early in hopes of snow (there wasn't any)).
I get the gist of it, but I'll probably edit this post when I have an opportunity for me to properly read through it.
Common sense (and common courtesy) is in fact a dying value. I don't know about the rest of the world (I've never traveled outside the US), but Americans astound me with their stupidity and general mean spirited-ness.
Another thing "my fellow Americans" are bad about is complacency. I could go ask someone down the street what they knew of politics, what laws they support and what they aren't so happy about. They'd probably just stare at me and say, "What.".
I had some more **** to go on about, but I'm too bloody tired to carry on a logical train of thought.
1) Yes, common sence is dying. I dunno everything else you said. :tongue.gif:
2)No clue.
3)Do you AGREE or DISAGREE with those quotes? If disagree, I kindof agree. The third option though, I think that they should still be treated like they're normal. However, they will still have problems. :/
Not going to say what I think about the rest so I don't start a flame war.

Dear goodness, I knew there was something I forgot to put under my first section. This bothers me to no end. The entire structure of a democracy is based on the population being able to make a few important decisions for the government, decisions which can and will direct the country down whatever road it will take. To have democracy, though, you need an informed public, the mention of which is almost laughable in the United States. There's no one group to blame, either. The news agencies should be focusing on it instead of telling me how many people went missing yesterday or how many people died for whatever reason. (Tangent topic: the news seems to mostly focus on bad things, in my opinion. Why? Is it more interesting or something? It's certainly not more inspiring.) The actual government should be promoting it instead of giving away awards pointlessly (Short and possibly very controversial tangent topic: Barack Obama receives Nobel peace prize = joke of the century). The population should even be doing so itself... and I think that's all I can say here.

Personally I believe in no deity. "Faith is a gift yet to be bestowed to me." I like the idea of religion but my thought don't match the idea of god. But I do know that whether or not religion is true, it is good for people. It teaches them good and wrong. If there was more religion in the world, yes there would be more wars, terrorist activity. So I'm unsure in the end.
This was my perspective before I came to the realization that - hey! - it's good for me, too. For me, even if the possibility of a higher power seems negligible, I take comfort in the fact that I can still believe it, and do. It's impossible to prove or disprove, and thoughts cannot affect whether it is true or not (I assume!). It follows that it can be a mental buffer or shield for me, just like anyone else.
Quote from gilbbbr »
I also don't believe in life after death. It just seems too perfect. But there's something about being disconnected from life -without being a thing to have been disconnected- also seems rather impossible. Ether way I won't threat about life after death.
What seems impossible to me is the idea that life is everything; all there is. It's hard for me to believe that some physical force could possibly be the cause of it, and be the cause of EVERYTHING in existence. There are amazing, physical things to ponder when it boils right down to the "science vs. religion/not science" debate. The fact that they can't be proven or disproved is either a terrible truth or a godsend. What was before the big bang? How did something (matter) come from nothing (...nothing)? Is time real, or just a construct of humanity? Questions like this mean there will always be some doubt to whether or not there is an afterlife (among the other impossible ideas, sorry I went off your topic a bit).
Quote from name=Yep, you guessed it. Gilbbbr »
The mind. I personally believe the mind is a life force that give everything it spark. It was the twitch of power that started the big bang. It the battery if you like that power's every living orgasm. Without the shell being able to harbour its mind, the mind is lost in that being. Death. Of course this could also be though of a the soul or maybe even chee (?) But i just call it mind.
You definitely wrote orgasm instead of organism. On topic, though, I would support there being a soul. It isn't even anything. A soul is a completely intangible essence in every living thing. Death occurs when it can no longer support your body in the physical world, then you go with it to wherever it goes beyond here. You are your soul.
I also believe in chi, but that isn't so much of a philosophical thing to me.

1)"Money, a simple form of exchanging and representing wealth, has grown to be so much."
2)"Racism is wrong."
3)Everyone is equal, so dont let your ideas that you are special get in the way.
I agree with the first two, but not with the third. I'll start out at the beginning, of course. "quote 1)" Yes. In every way, yes. Money is another important man-made concept that I forgot to list. It gives people the idea that they own or can own more than someone else, another artificial concept. It also reinforces the idea that they are entirely better than someone else for having it, which is wrong. I do, however, understand its importance in the world. It is possible for money to be good, but it has been taken too far, and it isn't very good anymore.
"Quote2)" Also a yes. Racism is based in the very recently mentioned concept that any one person is better than another for reasons they cannot control. I believe it is entirely possible for one person to be better than another, but not for any reasons regarding race.
"Quote3)" Three in a ro- Oh wait. I disagree with this one. I think that every single person on earth has the POTENTIAL to be just as good as another, but they have to harness it themselves to actually be as good. I do not believe everyone is equal, but I believe everyone has a/should have a chance to be.

Let's say i am not at all gonna recognise my self in you Madtoaster, because how can something you have strived to achieve be the root to all evil? People make it evil it can't be the root to evil.
Money is only the root to all evil if you achieve it using unfair methods or don't deserve the money you make.
Edit: i forgot to say I KNOW THAT ALOT OF YOU WON'T ACCEPT THIS.....
To the OP:
1) Somewhat
2) As have most of the generations before us
3) Who doesn't
4) No **** but it doesn't work that way
To gibblr
1) I am also atheist and believe in the values that religion offers are well, but the idea of God is not. However I think faith is not literal in the words that are spoken but what you make of it. More refined, it's the community of support that surrounds the faith. Knowing that people will always be there to fall back on in your times of need and having ideals that whilst unfalsifiable allow you to take comfort from them nonetheless (ie. Heaven after death, if someone close dies, you'd rather believe they're in a better place rather than just nonexistant of rotting flesh).
2) You say you don't believe in life after death, and you don't believe there is nothing after death. So you believe there is something after death, heaven perhaps?
3) The mind is a biological driving force than inhabits a shell (body). The soul is a non-physical ideal that gathers emotions, thoughts, aspirations and everything that we can feel but can't explain (this doesn't account for some religions that put souls into everything, even rocks). I personally hold the somewhat grave belief that there is no soul and everything boils down to chemical goodies. I suppose if I'm wrong, then I'm ****ed. XD

Why? Because I felt like it <3
The only thing I have to say is that although I highly don't believe in the Church, all I can say is that how can my **** and a vagina be.. Erm... Let's just say, how can cellular diffusion, cell respiration, photosynthesis, veins, cells, digestive system, working limbs, fertilization, milk production, two eyes not around 5-6 differing from a person to another, and other stuff occur without proper planning or something? I doubt those are due to a big explosion from a rock.
"How were you created?"
"Boom, everything came along."
Now we're stepping into what I believe is a very common, hugely missed, grey zone of Evolution v. Creation, because in reality it should be The Big Bang v. Creation. The Bible is vague about creation, "7 Days" can be as long as it wants to be when it's God's 7 days, the word Day is vague enough, in the early Earth a day could have lasted a thousand or more years, or maybe even they weren't Consistent days. God may have Created the Heavens and the Earth, came back a few hundred-thousand years later and did step 2 and so on.
Evolution has plenty of space within a timeline like that. If God wanted to create everything by letting it evolve on its own, then he could have. The bigger debate should rather be HOW it came to be, God created a big bang, or Nothing did.
Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden were not the only habitable places on the Earth, in fact Adam and Eve weren't the only people, the whole planet was alive, but the Garden was God's special project, as were Adam and Eve.
Move forward a few hundred years to the flood, where God changes the way the Earth was watered. No on had ever seen rain before, the concept of flooding had yet to be understood. The Earth was constantly misted, but afterwards it was not and the Dinosaurs were not able to sustain themselves without it.
Bible v. Science, or Bible explained through Science, the latter seems obvious.

Thanks for posting that, Hunter. I'm far too lazy to type all of it.
I'unno why people keep trying to argue the existence of god. Neither side will be able to persuade the other and it just leads to pointless squabbles.
Yeah, Since when did Science become the Study of Proving or Disproving one idea? It Should be the Study of All Things Possible. It feels like the 'Scientific Community' is dead set on proving only one possibility for all human origin and future, but what if they're wrong in the end? Where will we be left?

Because if you are please do me a huge favor and slap yourself. This is an incorrect response. this is not even a response. I have taken some rudimentary courses in this field and already I can see ample evidence for how we could come from nothing to this.
To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today.

Its not his opinion. To explain an opinion with rational examples and proofs its great, I love it. But to explain it with ignorance (IE " I just don't understand how this could of happened") Is what I'm trying to critique. I apologize if it came out as anything else.

You did use the word "You" in a manner that made it appear directed at the one you were quoting, so of course it appeared that way. Whereas he said nothing about anyone, but himself. If you want to continue pointing wrongness at others at least generalize it, or this thread is gonna go down flaming really fast.

Woah now, I'm saying that I don't care how monkeys and primates were created millions of years ago, but I can't say that all these things I mentioned before are due to the big bang or appeared there randomly, putting it into the hands of creator is a lot more rational.
As I said, I won't waste precious time of my life reading other theories about how man was 'created' by a big bang, I believe that god created all this unless you want to randomly put that brain of yours, arms, kidneys and whatnot into the hands of a big bang.
And yes, I'm not an expert in this field, have not even taken a class in this field, so can you please tell me how my monkey ancestors happened to lead to me being born with a fully functional brain too?
Actually the big bang can be explain by a part of the string theory called the membrane theory, but i dunno if any1 would like to hear about that.....
I will still tell the rudimentries (excuse my poor grammar i am tired and yea...) anyway's it kinda explains that it is not necessarry that they are jsut string but they can be membranes, wich can strech really far, but due to they're size is not huge, and that there are several Large membranes around each signifying it's own galaxy sort off.
and a crash between 2 such membranes would maybe create enough energy to make a big bang.
I am kinda tired right now and it is a long time since i studied this, so please do tell me if i wrote somethn wrong....

----------
Keep rolling them in.
Money is only the root to all evil if you achieve it using unfair methods or don't deserve the money you make.
Edit: i forgot to say I KNOW THAT ALOT OF YOU WON'T ACCEPT THIS.....

Curse Premium1) Somewhat
XD

Why? Because I felt like it <3
"How were you created?"
"Boom, everything came along."
For the time being, yes.
Having my ancestors as monkeys is a bit weird.

Yeah, Since when did Science become the Study of Proving or Disproving one idea? It Should be the Study of All Things Possible. It feels like the 'Scientific Community' is dead set on proving only one possibility for all human origin and future, but what if they're wrong in the end? Where will we be left?

I'm sorry, are you saying that "I don't understand how thus it can't be true"?
Because if you are please do me a huge favor and slap yourself. This is an incorrect response. this is not even a response. Your saying "Durr its complicated lets ignore it" You are not an expert in this field. Clearly you have never taken even a class in this field. I have taken some rudimentary courses in this field and already I can see ample evidence for how we could come from nothing to this.
To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today.
~Issac Asimov in his essay "The threat of creationism"
He's entitled to his own opinion. Stop telling him he's wrong.
Also known as 'Rils'

I will still tell the rudimentries (excuse my poor grammar i am tired and yea...) anyway's it kinda explains that it is not necessarry that they are jsut string but they can be membranes, wich can strech really far, but due to they're size is not huge, and that there are several Large membranes around each signifying it's own galaxy sort off.
and a crash between 2 such membranes would maybe create enough energy to make a big bang.
I am kinda tired right now and it is a long time since i studied this, so please do tell me if i wrote somethn wrong....
