Ok, 2 days ago I "vaccinated" my hard drive after finding a couple of viruses and after the reboot lost access to the drive. When I first installed the drive 2 years ago, I had partitioned it with C having 100GB and then 2 other 200GB partitions. Was able to put the drive in another computer and view it. The C partition is gone leaving 100GB or so of unallocated space but the other 2 partitions look to be intact as I was able to open files on them.
The problem I have is this. My Recoverer 2000 software was located on that C drive. I had a similar problem like this on another computer years ago and by using that software I was able to recover pretty much everything. Paid the $50 for it and it worked like a charm. Atm, I don't have the $50 bucks just lying around in order to buy another copy. Does anyone have a copy of Recoverer 2000 or Recoverer Ultimate they would be willing to let me use? Even a different recovery program that works. Being the lazy ******* I usually am, I never thought to back up the stuff from that drive. Losing the My Documents folder will literally devastate me. 40GB of photos from overseas, my wife and kids, my mom's memorial in Nov, everything.
If you are willing to do this, please send me an email at [email protected]. I would literally be forever grateful.
Thx guys, i'm about to head over to my dad's house and give those a try. My wife's computer I'm on doesn't have a SATA connector or I'd try it here. I'll let you know.
Running Recuva as we speak, been going for an hour, it estimates 5 hours 40 mins till completion, and thats just the scan. Lord knows how long the recovery will take, but thats the norm for this stuff. Best news at least is that it just didnt flat out say, "Your screwed" when I started it. So its finding something. I recall that when I used Restorer 2000 on a 250GB drive, it took all night just to recover the Program Files directory. If this works, if anyone wants a copy of Restorer 2000 for free, I'll be more than happy to give it to you along with the activation code. As a sorta thx. Its legit paid for software.
Recuva scan done, however the only thing it found were a couple of pirated DVDs and every cookie from every porn site I ever visited in like the last 10 years. Seriously, we see the priority the makers of this software have, porn and pirated stuffs. Rerunning it with a few other options thats literally going to take all night. But I figured I'd update this post with my drama in order to convince people of the importance of backups. I think Y2k hit me 10 years late.
2nd scan still running, so far has found 197,000 files and shows 23 perc complete.(Yes, I had nearly a million files on that drive) So I have a feeling I might get back most of my stuff since its at least seeing them now. And yes I fully intend on figuring out a backup system once this is all done. I'm willing to trade a 99 Sebring convertible with busted electrical system for a Terabyte external hard drive, hint hint, lol.
Ok Recuva failed. It gave it a vailiant attempt but only ended up recovering 14,000 files and about 500 MB worth. And most of that was empty folders, and none of the folder structure was intact. According to the log, it couldnt find 170,000+ files that went in them folders. Done with this for tonight but in the morning I'll try a few more of them Freeware recovery programs. I am still open to suggestions.
