Ian knows and told me that this forum is using bots to boost its traffic and that is why the admins and mods aren't properly resolving the spammer bot issue - it's literally how they sustain themselves through related ad revenue and viewership clicks.
At the unreasonably high rate that this forum is acquiring new members, some 5000 a day it was?, June 7th was the day this place reached 7 million members or some milestone like that. And that's not organic growth.
I think Ian has since been offline or banned for finding this out and telling me and a few others this, as he has never replied to me. So i'm saying it now on his behalf since he can't be targeted if he's already gone.
*This forum should be ashamed of itself for lying to its users that it is using bots to stay on life support.* It's great to have the forum not die, and it's understandable that bots may be needed to help keep it up, but hiding this from the users and letting the spam bother us constantly is unacceptable.
What, is it illegal to use bots, was there some reason to not announce this publicly? If we knew, we wouldn't care. We might think low of the staff team but we'd still use the forum. Instead, we're left in the dark and treated like idiots, asking why can't the spam posts be deleted, and getting fake out answers. I imagine the retired mods and older users are particularly pissed. I am too.
And the release of 1.20 or Stacks's personal crisis were coincidences to this 7 million thing, presumably. Maybe the former isn't, maybe the forum actually wanted to time its member milestone to the update to try garner more *real* attention. Through another disappointingly dishonest means.
I had a feeling that's why this has unremoved spam, something was kinda suspicious about a spam post from around 2022 not being already removed taking into account other forums I've been in and how fast they usually delete the post.
They want the spam to not die as many others did. A bit nasty, isn't it?
I'll be offline this week, so bye.
Maybe if they stop using bots to keep this alive, the actual users will come back... who knows
Fatal error in calculations... Didn't account for Banned/deleted accounts.
Still accurate nevertheless...
Dont be so hard on the circumstances, this is quite normal, the point is: this is the micro to what soon will be the macro of the WWW.
"Fake News"
"Fake Web"
"The Matrix"
I dont know the agency of the Mods here? some paid, some volunteer, inconsequential overall but not in a personal way.
All the best...Ian.
The point is that the bots are posting potentially dangerous spam links, so the forum's managers are directly harming their own users in the interest of maintaining the forum. The bots don't need to have links, but perhaps those links are what accrue the money due to website-visibility quotas. The links may also be what marks posts as bots for staff to check, and thus allows them to flag them in order to give an impression of acting on the problem that they created.

Well, If the Bots that use malicious Links are a side effect of an algorithmic program, then you can personally sue...
"Fake Web" is a new terminology that Law makers are now working on new legislation?
Creating fake traffic on a Website to manipulate sponsors/advertising is of course, fraud...

Notice how none of the staff are touching this topic.
But yeah, it's not pleasant. And personally I would not care too much if not for the feigned ignorance + the potentially dangerous links. Some people are dumb and will fall for that. It's hurting your own clients.
Most threads have been touched by the staff, either because a post is missing, it's locked or they posted.
Not this one, nor the one I made regarding the forum's state.
Hmmmmm...
I also realized just now that necroposting is done by the exact bots that we are accusing the forum of using, yet when we reply to said bots and try revive topics or call out the bots, we get ignored half the time and the thread locked or new posts deleted the other half. Hmm...smells like hypocrisy.
Double post. I'm really not sure how I'm supposed to feel other than irritated when every week or two I get someone sending me a spam or phishing link in either my DMs or my profile page's comment section. I'm reporting all of them now but this is getting on my nerves, I've trained enough on recognizing spam posts and don't need the practice, can I please not be sent these anymore? Thanks.

A few years ago I told Mods here to use: CAPTCHA when posting links, they said they dont have the capability to do so...
I also told them to not allow new members to post links until a set amount of posts registered, nothing happened.
I was concerned that this forum had a malevolent agency.

Also happened to me.
I posted an unpopular opinion I had on a topic about unpopular opinions, tha next day it was locked and all posts from after 2018 deleted.
And I often get ignored when I ask for help, example of that is the thread "plz help can't upload new avatar", which they surely saw but never replied.
And now it has extended to images, only can post them if they come from a website that gives you copypasta of the required "[something] [/something]" code.
And not only that but sometimes they say my post is spam... even when it's on topic, e.g. a post regarding a bsod issue my friend had with media player in a thread about someone having a similar issue when he runs minecraft...

The thread was 5 years old at that point. It's up to the discretion of whoever moderating whether to close a topic or not when it comes to necro posts.

You posted it in the wrong section (General Off Topic) when it should've been posted in Forum Discussion & Info. This gives it more visibility since Off Topic is generally not well moderated.

However, the post was deleted because it adds nothing of value to the topic, which was already 3 years old at your time of posting - thus considering it as a worthless necropost.
I had a feeling that's why this has unremoved spam, something was kinda suspicious about a spam post from around 2022 not being already removed taking into account other forums I've been in and how fast they usually delete the post.

We cannot physically oversee and moderate each and every single post being made.
This includes older posts that were edited to add spam (it does happen) or the automated system somehow un-marking a post as spam.
If you believe a post is spam, the best thing to do is not reply to it (as that gives it more visibility) and report the offending post so it is visible to the moderation team.
Master801, would you consider replying to the rest of the thread as well?
We'd like to hear what exactly you and the rest of the staff team can say in response to our accusations and evidence, because it's not a good look to leave this here undiscussed and unresolved.
Also, I realize that these links themselves can be sources of revenue if controlled internally, like how IT departments send fake phishing emails to test their clientele...
You may tell us to simply report and ignore these posts, but if you don't acknowledge our solutions like complete post deletion on posts with removed links, then the only thing we can take from that is that you aren't listening to us, when we actually use the forum and bring in ad revenue (for whatever little that's worth per individual user here). Yes, these solutions take time, and yes, some spammers change links days after making threads, but still, at least acknowledgement of the problem would be appreciable.
I'm predicting a momentous Day regarding: Minecraft Forum Dot Net...
7 is a lucky number, and will be a relevant number, a day to celebrate
Lets wait and see...
ᛁᚨᚾ ᚷᛖᛞᛞᛖᛋ
I will be anticipating for it, may that day be a blessing for all the forumers.
Well, it's 7 june and it's probably the worst day of my life.
Not gonna talk about it.
Not even my hello world works :'C
(But powerpoint does xd)
Btw what does api stand for?
Trails and tales updates exactly on june 7 2023, loving the Cherry Blossom Trees so far!
I think that the never seen before thing wasn't 7, it was 8 (at least on my timezone)
I think it's me reporting a post.
Spam. The "ViSiT mY wEbSiTe!!!1!111!!!!!!" type.
It HAD to be the type of spam I hate, right?
The one why I can't find anything on my mail, right?
Not even my hello world works :'C

This is not what Ian was predicting.

Time and current events can cause emotional responses, I hope it's nothing too serious.

Maybe its just counter productive for them, Staff just do their job for "magicfind"
Magicfind who boast on their website:
"Reach Your Audience... With custom integration options and an extensive line up, we'll help you find your ideal audience."
"50+ Million Monthly Page Views"
"10+ Million Active Users"

We've never explicitly stated it was spam, but it does technically fall under the spam rule.
