During the summer time my room normally consist of ants, not like all grouped up kind of situation just spotting multiples in different spots of the house and rooms. This is due to location more than likely considering I try my best to keep things tidy. During Fall or Winter we tend to see spiders instead of ants. Now, ants are annoying and understandable to an extent but for some reason when it comes to spiders its a whole different playing field.
I'm assuming people feel this way because spiders bite? I don't know, I just would prefer them stay away. Would I rather have ants than spiders? Yes, very much. Would I rather have neither? Please locate to such area! Why do you think people are so afraid/paranoid of spiders though? Minus the fact that bite obviously. And what are possibly some suggestions to get over the fear of them or even rid of them.

I reckon it's become instinctual through evolution. Maybe, back in the early days of humanity, a much smaller proportion of people were afraid of spiders. A significant amount of people without that fear died from venomous spiders due to their lack of fear, and thus a human with a greater fear of spiders had a greater chance of survival. Eventually, the proportion of people who fear spiders isn't as small.
Google "Cane Spider" and you'll know what the largest spider I usually have to deal with in my area is like. I don't care if it's mostly harmless it greatly unsettles me when a spider of that size is in my general vicinity. They aren't slow when they run either.
Though I hate spiders it really depends on their size. The smaller the spider the less likely I will want to exterminate it immediately. I'm just cautious about these kinds of creatures considering I have been bitten before and boy did my hand swell up (I don't recall being bitten either but my hand showed otherwise). I'm not particularly sure why I hate spiders but it's apparent that I do by a lot. They're annoying for several reasons:
1. Most types I deal with keep nesting in random corners of my room. You didn't pay your rent spiders.
2. Spiders have a tendency to make webs at eye level in seemingly random locations. I've lost count how many times I walk forward into a web and get disgruntled.
3. The area I currently live at has these small but spiny-like spiders that can infest the area at some point in the year. I've simply looked up near a tree by the house and I'll be more than happy to wave a white flag.
Now that I think about it I guess I toss insects and arachnids into two categories: kill or don't kill. Really depends on how much they bother me with what they do, kind of like moths ramming your pc monitor. They all died from mysterious causes.
I have no intention of cohabitating with spiders. If you don't want to touch them then ready your nearest flat and study object and smash to your heart's content (fly swatter depending on size, books, etc). You can also prepare your trump card: the vacuum cleaner.
where i live some people are scared of spiders but none of them are any danger to us (well not totally true a guy got bit by one had a allergic reaction)

I generally either just let the spiders in my house live or capture them and release them outside. Aside from the occasional Black Widow, which I do kill when I see them, the spiders 'round here are relatively harmless.
Maybe that's why I have something like eight spider bites on my feet, but whatever. The worst of it is that the bites sometimes are itchy, I've dealt with worse before.

There aren't many spiders around where I am (probably too cold for them). For me, if a spider's outside it's fine but if it is anywhere near me or in the house it's dead.

All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king
I'd bet it's the legs. Spiders have eight, unlike insects that have six. Those two legs must add to a lot more horror.
That must make centipedes and millipedes true nightmare.

Luckily in Ireland the biggest spider I've ever had to face at most was 2cm wide. Usually they are the tiny little 8 legged buggers that live in the corners of your room and make random webs to my eye level. I then promptly get a vacumn cleaner and murder the tiny pests.

The other night i was laying in bed staring up at the ceiling and thinking about my day, when out of nowhere a giant hairy huntsman crept across the wall above me. he would have been the stretch of my hand at least. It didn't bother me much, because i know the old expression that Spiders are more afraid of us than we are of them is actually true. And, in my case, this giant huntsman really only delivers a painful bite, not much else, and will only bite when cornered, and even then it might not. Plus, most spiders, especially the huntsman, will help keep the other insects population under control, say like a fly or mosquito or two. So i let that spider do his thing while i switched off the light and rolled over to sleep.
However, i had a friend who woke up in the morning with a female Funnel-web sitting on her chest. Now that's a different kettle of fish I'm sure.....
Summer time here in Australia usually results in heaps of red backs (or black widows) in my garage- some small, some terrifyingly big, so every time I'm to get into my car, I bring some mortein and a news paper.
But I have to deal with relatively harmless spiders like huntsmans and daddy longlegs regularly (and by regularly, I mean daily.)
I just kill any bug I come across, and I feel no remorse.
I envy people who can do otherwise.
But I will say this much, after making this thread I've been ignoring the spiders in my room. Not saying I went out my way to kill them to begin with but I had a paranoid vibe knowing they're around.
About 5 years ago a small spider crawled onto my face as I was trying to go to sleep. I guess I should have taken the hint that my late cat was pawing at something.

Kept me up until like 3 AM.
Obviously its time to burn down the house.
Really though, have you ever heard of that theory that the average human eats spiders while they're asleep? Personally I don't believe it BUT from the sounds of it kokkuri was about three fourths of doing it while awake.

If only spiders were stupid enough to walk on the ground.

The worst we get around here are just wolf spiders. I just release them outside if I find a huge one (they only get up to 2 inches at the very most).
I am a friend of all Snow Golem kind.

I'm scared of them due to there small size, I'm fine with huge spider, but the ones you stomp and their baby's come out? nuh to the uh.

Simple answer, no. Here's an article about it. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-people-swallow-8-spiders-a-year-while-they-sleep1/
