I was watching Saw last night (happy halloween ) and I realised that barely anything scares our generation anymore.
I am younger that even 15 and I have seen like 2 R18+ movies and like 50 MA15+ movies that are supposed to be scary. (BTW the R18+ movies were Hostel and The Exorcist).
If you've seen anything actually scary please post it@

Everything is awesome!

It's sad when "horror" these days is just over-glorified gorefests and "jumpscares". Whatever happened to horror fiction/movies being about the build up, the suspense, the overwhelming sense of dread, and the wondrous feeling of never knowing what's around the corner? (ANOTHER JUMPSCARE?! Oh boy I've only seen fifty of those in the past hour..)

Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.
Last I checked, you're getting a box. Of chocolates.

I agree partially, as most horror movies these days have a weak storyline that is rather lacking in a multitude of ways. However, I actually find the jumpscares enjoyable, as predictable as they are. In addition to what you mentioned, I don't think movies these days have that many jumpscares, It just seems that the movies aim to reach the climax as soon as possible, without a proper-build up to certain parts of the story.
However, there are still recent horror movies that I enjoy, such as the Conjuring, for it had a somewhat interesting storyline and it's sequel Annabelle was slightly disappointing, but it still managed to satisfy my craving for horror.
With regards to the OP, I do agree with your claim. It's mostly true. However, Saw is meant to be more of a violent movie rather than a horror movie, which is probably why you didn't find it scary at all. Getting back to the topic. I feel that horror movies have become more mainstream in the recent years, and are catered to the large majority of viewers, regardless of their age. However, there are still movies out there which do bring chills up my spine, especially foreign movies.
I remember back when I could flash a Night Of The Living Dead videocasette in literally anyones face and they'd soil themselves right then and there; things have changed.

If you hate those movies go reminisce about the old ones instead of hating on the new ones.
