I started this discussion to discover the many ways that people became gamers. What got you started? What did you play that increased your interest in gaming? For instance, I started with LEGO video games and free online games that I found while browsing. A website that I played on for a while was Nitrome. It has hundreds of colorful and creative games that have a slight retro feel. (If you want to check it out there is a link below.) How did you become a gamer?
I became a gamer when all my friends bought an xbox 360, so I decided I would get one and I got a few games and just got hooked. Later to find out that with the PC there are also many games, already liking computer technology, decided to build my PC. and now almost all i do it play PC games
I became a gamer when I ate the heart of the previous gamer before me ^w^
.....
Well I suppose I became a gamer when I got addicted to my N64 long ago ^3^
Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask, Mario64, and lots of other awesome things got me into games and when I finally got my ps3 I became a serious gamer
started at around the age of 7 with playing warcraft 2 and some of those "learning" games also watching my mom play diablo which had me wanting to play even though i only played diablo 2 and recently (in the diablo series) diablo 3
My family had bought a Nintendo 64 shortly after I was born. We had a NES and a SNES, but we gave those to our cousin who then sold them. I always picked up an unplugged controller and pretended like I was playing when other people were. When I turned 2 or so, I sort of picked up on the fact that you had to plug in the controller in order to play.
And just like that, I hurled myself into the downward spiral.
As i was 14+ (1981), I like playing on video machines located in several cafes around my school (I'm French). (Space Invaders, Pac Man, Aztec-likes, Street Fighter-likes, and some pinballs).
Those games were really costly (a coin for a single game), so I decided to buy a refurbished TRS80 and began my first computer games and computer programming on this platform.
Since then, I play games ...
A few years later I switched to an Apple ][ Europlus.
At 20 (1987), I did the mistake to switch to the PC.
Now I'm on consoles, mainly Nintendo and Sony.
Surprisingly enough, I'm an old fella (21 it makes me feels old lol), but I started playing games one the Sega Genesis or the Sega Mega Drive, it was one of those two, and that's what started me off on consoles in general, but what really started me off on PC, Is I played Age Of Empires II when it first came out, that got me into a lot of Real Time Strategy games, that is how I became a PC Gamer, all cause of AOE II before steam came out.
