Well, reading all of this was one of the saddest experiences I've had in a little while. Jagex, in my opinion, is pretty terrible. But Runescape is a good game, with some poor qualities. There's no utilitarianization, therefore many people dislike it.
On to Ace of Spades: Ace of Spades was developed since the beginning by a group of people. They were in beta for the longest time, and had plans on releasing the full game at a price anyways. Jagex, with the money, bought the game and improved upon it.
This is a multi-million dollar company you're talking about. They're professionals, not children. With this, they've also stated, promised, and sworn that they're not looking for any sort of pay to play features, but a one-pay sort of game. I've seen the screenshots, and the improved graphics seem really nice compared to what it was before. Knowing Jagex, there will be video settings with this game, so most computers should still be able to play it anyway. Why not make it more enjoyable for those with actual gaming computers?
I'm almost positive there's a search bar on all of your web-browsers. Some professional advice would be, to use it. Would you have taken even 30 seconds of research on the situation, you may have dodged such an out-pour of ignorance.
Alright, looks like I've got a smart one on my hands. Runescape is bad, 100%, and was bad before Jagex got it. The real reason why I'm hating Jagex is because of the fact that if you look at their track record, they are complete failures and have ruined every game they've bought, and Runescape is kept afloat by 6 year olds stealing there mom's credit cards. Seeing that they have a couple of dead websites and plenty of dead games on there hands, it's a safe assumption that they have learned nothing and will mess up Ace of Spades too. It's not like this is a new thing, AoS was bought a few months ago actually, it's only recently they re-designed the site and RAAAAAAAAAAGGGED many fans.

Good day to you sir, If I have assisted, and or pleased you in any way, please do click the green plus.
I used to play Runescape a lot, went back to it a couple days ago, it was alright.
But for AoS: Whatever, yo! They might be greedy, but they aren't idiots. They know how to make games. Plus, the game will probably have video options, so people with computers made of old toaster parts can still play.
Funny, AoS isn't listed as one of their games on the Jagex site. Hmmmmmmmmmm...
What's this, devs expecting money in exchange for improving a game? HOW DARE THEY!
I'll admit, they did go a bit over-the-top with Runescape, simply because of the fact that half the game's features are more or less an expansion pack you can only unlock by becoming a member. But they're still obviously going to give a bit more to the players that fund production. It's not their fault you all want something in return for your contribution of nothingness. Here you are, calling Jagex greedy, when you're acting just as selfish as they are.
Anywho, with AoS you have to purchase the game in the first place. I don't think there will be any special items you have to pay money for. And if there is, I doubt they'll slowly transform it into a P2W type of game. Why would they lose potential sales just so a small portion of the existing playerbase would pay a bit more? That's not smart, it's just bad business practice. At the end of the day, Jagex is a business, and by the definition of a business, it's doing extremely well. They're not going to turn a paid game into a P2W when it could potentially effect sales negatively.
Quit taking things at face value and look up jagex's actions over the past decade.
It's a company that makes a good game, bleeds it dry for years, and then makes it basically pay2win.
They ed runescape up back in the day, and AoS is next.
Its not only that, they have a record of buying/making stuff and flat out not finishing it or dropping it after a year.
At any rate, this isnt news. The information that jagex owned aos has been out for quite a bit of time (nearly a year).
classes
snipers
RPG
multiple high grade explosives
drill launcher(???)
Didn't the game always have classes? It's been a while since I played it but I'm pretty sure at the start of the game you choose to either be a machine gunner or rifleman.
It could be good but could be bad.
You could choose what weapon you wanted, but that was the closest it got to classes. It was never "this weapon gets x amount of blocks" or "this weapon gets 15 other weapons while this weapon gets a black and decker power drill".
There are four classes, and they cater to subsets of people, rather than just offering a different gun here or a special ability there.
The Soldier is the easiest to explain, being entirely focused on death by bullets and explosions. Armed with a rifle, minigun and rocket launcher, this class is almost entirely geared towards collateral damage, rather than anything more directed. You’ll shoot at the enemy, and they’ll fall down dead. It’s as simple as that. The Scout has a little more finesse, equipped with sniper rifle and SMG in addition to the same basic pickaxe that the Soldier carries. This allows you to dissemble the environment one cube at a time, which can be slow going if you want to get anywhere. But luckily the sniper rifle means you don’t really have to rely on basic tools to start racking up kills. Just sit at the back and provide support fire, and you’ll do just fine. It’s with the introduction of the Engineer that things start to veer away from the norm. The shovel obliterates blocks at a rate of knots, allowing for fast destruction of the landscape to better build trenches, underground bases and emplacements. Add to this an entirely defensive loadout of mines, sentry guns and a powerful shotgun and you get the idea: the Engineer sits at the base and turns it from an isolated hill into a fortress None of those was my favourite, though. That would be the Miner, whose only offensive weapon is the same shoddy rifle that the Soldier has as a backup. But everything else they carry, from the shovel to the truly ludicrous Drill Launcher, is geared towards cutting vast swathes out of the map and creating alternate routes through the ground itself. It’s all about subverting the expectations of the enemy, playing mind games with them as you riddle everything beneath their feet with warrens full of dead ends and alternate routes.
Well, my pistol skin was a 44 automag. Anyways, most of the attractiveness that came from AoS was it's deceptive simplicity and the awesome destroyable maps. The fact that it could run on your grandma's exidy sorcerer microcomputer was cool too. Now that an EA-ish developer bought it they're sure to ruin it slowly and painfully, walmart style. Someone initiate an apocalypse NOW, because I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

There's a few probs with this:
A: You've seen SCREENSHOTS. SCREENSHOTS with lots of obvious EDITING.
B: Yes, Jagex IS a multimillion dollar company. A multimillion dollar company with a bunch of multimillion dollar FLOPS.
Honestly, as much as I loved the original Ace of Spades, I can see why they changed it. The original had fantastic gameplay, but it was a kind of game that couldn't appeal to the masses. The new game looks drastically different, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. It's just going to take some getting used to.
I've had a chance to play it for a couple hours or so. It's really nothing like the Beta, but I'm not bothered by that. I am, however, bothered by the amount of problems in the game. Latency issues, framerate issues, the Rocketeer is far too overpowered (in Zombies especially), players take forever to kill, building is futile, the sniper rifle and minigun are pathetically underpowered. The current state of the game is extremely rough, but it has potential.
Jagex has put out a new blog post that says they will be adding World War One and World War Two game modes to the game, which intends to bring back the old Beta gameplay. Along with this update, they're adding new game modes, a new map, and they're fixing some issues.
Besides, if you want to play the old Ace of Spades, you can go to BuildAndShoot.
I actually got perma-banned from the AoS forums for voicing opinions!
Thats a load of bull ! I expressed my concerns for the game and even suggested how they could make it better.
Fagex are internet Nazis. Terrible company, they dont listen to the community at all.

A double resolution graphics pack that stays faithful to the originals.
Somehow I don't believe that you were just "voicing your opinions." At least not in a polite/constructive manner.
I honestly can't see how you can say that they don't listen to the community at all. They've responded to a good number of threads regarding the current state of the game, and how they can improve it. You sound like those manchildren down at the BuildAndShoot forums.
now that i have bought Ace Of Spades it doesn't feel right i liked the simplicity the game had another thing i don't like is with weapons it was quick luck shooting with op weapons now it is hide and shoot with low power weapons and no luck/even skill...
I just checked out the website, It seems they upgraded the graphics, which disappoints me, I enjoyed being able to run it at like 9000+ fps on my toaster.
Toaster? My potato ran Ace of Spades at like 9000+ fps.

wow this is already shaping up to be a disaster.
