The Witcher: Enhanced Edition(regret buying)
I spent 65 the first day in actual money and traded in games at Gamestop and got $100 in Steam credit. I also pre-purchased Dark Souls. If I could go back, I wouldn't have bought Killing Floor and The Witcher, I would have bought the complete Dungeon Defenders package when it was on sale for 12.50 instead.
Got the Half Life Pack, Binding of Isaac + Wrath of the Lamb, Oblivion GOTY (Normal, not deluxe), Plant's vs. Zombies GOTY, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Spent a total of only $30. I probably would've gotten more, but this is the first Steam Sale I've got stuff in (Didn't realize how much you could get with small amounts of cash). I'm gonna be prepared for the winter sale though.
I had no idea there was a summer sale since I kind of forgot my pass and was too lazy to change it. I was tricked by this topic..As soon as I read this, i thought it said it was on currently, which made me change my password, and buy 200 dollars worth of games i thought were for sale...Dang it >.<
some of these i already had, but bought once again to have steam versions... i think the maximum i paid for any was $5 though, but most of what i got was less than that. and... this was also the first time ive ever bought anything on steam, so this is my entire library atm:

I can't actually play half of these, due to my computer being crap, but... i spent around $120 i think total. not too bad, yeah? made use of a bunch of old gift cards i couldn't buy much of anything i wanted with... i figured out how to turn them into steam wallet money
one of these days ill get a better computer... ive suffered through fallout 3 and new vegas probably a dozen times each in the past, at 10 fps, minimum graphics settings, low resolution... one of these days ill replay them both once again maxed. hell, with one of those fancy shader mods.
anyway pastmaster, i thought you were above words such as "swag" im a bit disappointed >.>

Wasted money much?
I just bought some games with random Visa gift cards I had lying around with $2 or so on them.
I just bought some games with random Visa gift cards I had lying around with $2 or so on them.
nope, not at all. i could play them if i had a better computer, and i plan to buy one once i save up a bit more money. i probably have enough laying around for one better than what i have now, but... im going for a monster of a computer. overkill. something that will run just about anything i want it to at maximum settings, and still be decent in 5 years. once i have that, ill be able to play those few games i can't on this this thing, which is a good idea, considering ill probably not have any money to spare for a while once i buy such a thing, so itll be nice having some new games to try it out with right away.
anyway... if i understand steam's marketing strategy, i believe the prices of some of these games will actually increase to above what they were before the sale (not during it, before).
why?
well, here's what i saw take place... i admit, this is my first experience using steam, however i take notice of what people say on social networking sites, list as interests, etc. and what i think steam does in these sales is basically networks.
as in... there are plenty of games out there that no one has heard of that are quite good, be it lack of advertising, or simply something that has excellent gameplay and doesnt look so good in the stills. i can't say why some great games don't get popular, but it happens. (as i said before, i take notice of what people say, or more importantly, don't say. as in, there were a lot of games in the sale that id never heard mentioned before at all, that im hearing about all the time now)
anyway, steam sells off these great games extra cheap, and features them so a lot of people buy them, and since the price is so low they give them a chance when they wouldn't normally. a lot of people won't buy a game they've never heard of. anyway, once the sale is done, and people have bought these games, they are out there and well... heard of. people see that a few of their friends bought a game, and without giving it any thought, buy the same one. even if it's not on sale anymore. even if the price has actually raised above what it orignally was.
i believe that this is the point of the sales. discount games that are not selling, people see that their friends own these games, then buy them later at full, or even a raised price. they are increasing demand. but of course they add in some popular games too, which everyone appreciates, and keeps the interest up. hence, i doubt youll ever see the prices that low again on the same games. by next year's sale, they'll have different obscure games to discount, and if you want any of these that they offered, youll just have to pay full price.
though as i said, im new to steam, thus my logic may be flawed, as i may be missing information.
I didn't buy too much, either because I didn't like a lot of the deals, I couldn't afford them or I already owned them, but I bought a few games during the sale.
- Hitman: Blood Money, $2.50 (Daily Deal). I honestly got bored of it an hour or two into it. It's just not my kind of game.
- Just Cause 2, $9.00 (constant reduced price). Should have waited and picked it up during the daily deal But regardless, it's an epic game that's even better with mods. The multiplayer mod was also part of the reason why I bought it. Pretty well executed and fun, and can't wait for the full release. The storyline is very mediocre, though. The actual missions are fun, but the voice-acting, characters and events...ugh.
- Universe Sandbox, $6 (constant reduced price). Pretty fun and entertaining when you get to crash Earth into the Sun, and watch as two spiral galaxies clash over a scale of several million years, but you run out of things to do after awhile. I played for a little while, but until the developers add new content to it, I won't be touching it.
- PAYDAY: The Heist, $5 (Daily Deal). Critics may say otherwise, but this is an excellent, fun game. The guns feel satisfying, and strategy and teamwork are required. Going Rambo will get your ass beat down. The heists are creative and have varied enemies, and also have different objectives. Awesome game for coop with friends, and it's still a lot of fun with strangers online.
Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the Summer Sale. Just wished that better games were in the flash & daily deals, and that I had more cash to spare D:

It may cost more-or-less than $290. I may have added some games multiple times or forgot a few, but it's around $290. At first I was kind of pissed that I spent $87.99 (I was hoping to spend no more than $50), but then I realized how much I had saved.
Awe! That's gotta suck donkey.
