Okay, now i have a question. Do you play as the same gender as you are in real life, or do you play as the opposite one? I normally try to play as myself, (making my person male, making him look like me). Some people say that gamers play as another race because of loneliness (not pointing any fingers), or pervertion. I personally don't give a crap, as some game characters aren't your gender. Plus, most of these complaints are from femenist standpoints. If a girl plays a game as a guy nobody cares. But if a man plays as a woman, then they go "OMGWTFBBQ PERVERT QUEAR". What are your thoughts on this?
I can't stand playing a game as a female because it just totally destroys immersion.. Even if its a first person game it just kills any immersion and connection I had to the character (except portal/portal 2 because Chell never talks or makes sound at all..)
Both. When given a choice, sometimes I pick male (which I am) and sometimes female. If I'm playing a game a second time I usually pick whatever I didn't pick last time to see if there are any differences in dialogue.
People that don't play a different gender in games think about it more than those that do, that I'm sure of.
I play a female character most of the time. I use a name I came up with about 16 years ago for an online game, and it's stuck as far as gaming goes.
Voice chat WOULD be a problem, but I play with mature players, that don't care if my character is female. I'm playing a game, not going on a date. What difference does it make what gender my *character* is?
I usually choose female if possible. Mainly because most games I play are behind views and i'd much rather stare at a girls ass the entire time than a guys. If I start up a game with friends I choose male most times or if I am a different species (say Tauren in WoW) I go male usually.
Well, I think this thread, explains it pretty clearly, some people are impressionist, who think of their character as themselves, and others are controllers, who think of their character as somebody else.
I myself, am an Impressionist, but personally, I just position the camera away from my character's ass if I'm able to, no matter which gender I play (I may play as other genders if the classes are gender locked)
