I play both Minecraft and Fortresscraft. Yet when I go on forums I occasionally see an entire topic devoted to hating FortressCraft. Most of them say that Minecraft is the best and FortressCraft was a cheap knock-off. I do not believe this is true.
Feel free to discuss about what I will type here but please, don't flame or hate. We can all have a civilized discussion right? Also I do realize that this may seem like a wall of text so I have put a TL:DR version below
FortressCraft isn't a rip-off, it was inspired similar to Minecraft.
FortressCraft is in base development stages similar to Minecraft Classic, thus the lack of features.
FortressCraft actually does have one feature that I'm sure many would want in Minecraft; every world is a server.
Minecraft does have many neat features, however they are mods while FortressCraft has some of these in the base game.
In the end both games are different.
Minecraft: RPG
FortressCraft: Creation
Since all the hate seems to be on FortressCraft I will go over some of the 'reasons' why it 'sucks'.
First of all many people say it is a blatant rip-off despite the fact that both games were inspired by a game prior to it. Minecraft was inspired by Infiniminer while FortressCraft was inspired by Minecraft. It's Inspireption! A game inspired by a game that was inspired from another game!
A second thing they say is the lack of features. Well didn't Minecraft start off with Classic? Classic was just testing some core mechanics such as blocks. Same thing with FortressCraft. In the first Call of Duty there weren't any perks or killstreaks or any of that.
Also I have to say, FortressCraft does have one feature that Minecraft does not. A feature that I love. Every world you create is already Multi-player! Every world you have is a server as long as you're in it! You can set it to friends-only and the such. You can even restrict who can build! Something that would require a custom server such as Bukkit in Minecraft.
Thus I can see FortressCraft as a better game than Minecraft for people who wish to have multiplayer worlds, even if they aren't tech-savvy.
Also many people say that FortressCraft features ripped off of Minecraft. Yet i find this 'feature' in Minecraft originates from a mod most of the time. Not the base game.
A great example is the custom blocks in FortressCraft. It is available for Minecraft as the Tiny Blocks mod (can't remember EXACT name) and both allow for greater detail to the scale of about one eighth for both games. However for Minecraft it IS A MOD if you hadn't noticed.
In the end I think both games have good things in each.
Minecraft has a much wider selection of multiplayer options, as long as you know exactly what you're doing.
FortressCraft has a much easier form of multiplayer.
Minecraft is tending to become an RPG with adventure modes, magic, monsters etc. along with 'physics'
FortressCraft is becoming a game of mass creation with extreme detail of buildings and minigames coded in.
In the end I still enjoy both games. However do not see some of my gaming choices has hypocrisy as I have a powerful computer easily capable of supporting Minecraft with high visual settings and 80 FPS while the XBOX has a meagre 512 MB of RAM that does not help and causes my game to crash when I visit some parts of my world (Custom Blocks are alot of polygons) and I may not return until the 1.1 version is released with lag optimization.

Oh wait! There is!
So the only thing that's great about Fortresscraft is it's easy to set up a server? That's not much of a great feature, since there are many tutorials on how to set one up in Minecraft. Also, Minecraft still has a creative mode.
i cNT DISAPPROVE MORE!! not ever block game or blocks in a game is a minecraft ripoff look at terraria!! tht game is ALMOST better than minecraft and is not a rip off
It's inspiration when you see something and use it as the basis for a new, unique idea. It's a ripoff when you see something and copy it, making only enough changes to avoid getting in trouble. Minecraft was inspired by Infiniminer. It took the idea of voxel-based mining and turned it into a new, much more sandboxy game. It removed the classes and added infinite worlds and mobs. Terraria was inspired by Minecraft. Redigit saw the potential for a great 2D gear-based game, with large worlds full of challenging monsters and sweet loot, and a fairly deep crafting and building element.
Fortresscraft is a ripoff of Minecraft. It does not innovate, or change, or add anything new. It takes Minecraft and makes it 360-friendly. This means removing the crafting, the combat, the survival mode, and infinite worlds. It means adding bloom and slapdash "HD" textures. It means using the 360's Miis as player avatars. It means being bound by Microsoft's contracts, and limited forever. It means being a bad game in exchange for money.
The two examples for innovation you provided, custom blocks and universal multiplayer, are not innovations, if you've described them accurately. Fortresscraft simply took a mod and turned it into a standard feature. That is not innovation. And while you may consider universal multiplayer a bonus, I consider it nothing more than irritant. What do you need for multiplayer on 360? A subscription service I do not have, or want. What do I need for multiplayer in Minecraft? Only internet access and a functioning brain.
I do understand your attempt to compare Minecraft's early stages of development with Fortresscraft. However, Fortresscraft is released and costs money. Minecraft Classic does not cost money. Is it really wise to compare a commercial release with a free low-feature version of Minecraft? I don't think so. And the excuse of being 'in development' fails to hold up very well. The indie market on 360 does not cater to buy-in alphas and betas like the PC does. Last I heard, Fortresscraft's updates will cost money because Microsoft requires as much. Minecraft offered all its updates for free.
In the end, Fortresscraft is an inferior console knockoff of Minecraft, made to cash in on the console kiddie market. Now that Minecraft 360 is releasing, it will fade ever more into the background, as it should.

This, so much.
Fortresscraft is just a plain ripoff, down to its own name. Having a "craft" in it's title when no crafting is even involved!
I have no issue with ripoffs. However, when a developer ripoff a game and insult the original developers like what fortresscraft did to minecraft, that's an serious issue and I dislike that person's attitude.

While I do understand that you see it as an inferior console knockoff it does have free updates. New versions (also known as sequels) are planned and will only cost $3 each. Also FortressCraft is using what it has now as tests for the engine as it is in an alpha state. It is heading in a PvP environment along with survival modes against hordes of enemies with Tower Defence elements. As of today the latest patch has been released with the alpha version of this survival mode. In the end I think that both finished games will be different from one another. Minecraft has the survival against the environment while FortressCraft is a fully creative game with PvP and Tower Defence.
Also Minecraft did not have infinite worlds from the start nor did it have mobs. In the beginning it really was just classic. A limited world with infinite blocks. It did have the sandbox however.
Also Minecraft Classic is alot like Infiniminer, only above ground (as the start) and without the team games and classes (as you said) as I have watched some infiniminer and there is a sandbox mode for "do whatever you want with your friends" and I think that it actually is alot like Minecraft Classic without lighting.
Also before Minecraft became what it is now there was also alot of hate on it for being a rip-off ofInfiniminer. Now, not so much. I believe the same will happen with FortressCraft.
Minecraft is a ripoff of Infiminer, albeit an improved, expanded one. Minecraft got uberpopular and is now basically mainstream, it's foolish to think that there wouldn't be any similar games made. But, in truth, most of the games inspired off of MC are ripoffs by everyone's definitions. One thing I like about fortesscraft is that it's 360, and that makes for some great villainy on people's servers.
What's the use of arguing about Minecraft and Fortresscraft? Minecraft is coming to Xbox anyways and it will most likely blow any other voxel based game out of the water. Fortresscraft will become a dead game, same with Total Miner, Castle Mine, etc...

Total miner looks to have the same features as MC, and a lot cheaper price.
I'd buy that over Xbox MC any day.

I didn't want arguing to come to. I just wanted to ask why the majority of the Minecraft Community hates FortressCraft.
Also thinking that just because Minecraft is coming to XBOX means it will blow out other voxel games doesn't make sense. We still have multiple shooters so why not multiple voxel building games?

Oh wait! There is!
FortressCraft is a complete ripoff no matter what you say. If you look at one and the other, FortressCraft can be directly the same as Minecraft. And if your argument is "Well Minecraft is a copy of InfiniMiner", InfiniMiner is completly different in the way that its in space, it is solely based on Multiplayer, and has many different things about it. The only thing that MC took from IM, is the fact that you mine. FC has taken 99% of the things MC has, the only different thing is that they have blueprints. And why do they even have that? Its a change they chose to make considering that its almost exactly the same as MC. Otherwise its just MC Classic for Xbox. and please don't get me started on why PS3 is better. (Xbox can't argue just because you have MC, whoopee, big whoop.) Ill leave my PS3 VS Xbox argument in a spoiler below...
PS3 VS Xbox360 rant
First of all, PS3 may not have the best online support, ill admit, but considering the weight of all the other things it does better than Microsoft, it can and does outweigh the online. PS3's exclusives are much better, and there are much more of them. (LBP, Uncharted, Last Of Us, inFamous, Killzone, Resistance) and Xbox has what? Halo and Gears? Also, people say PS3 has **** graphics compared to Xbox, wanna know why? Because Xbox's coding is **** and easy, and considering if developers were like Naughty Dog and took advantage of the 50 or so GB's of Harddrive space, Xbox doesn't compare. Xbox only has 7 or so from a regular old style Disc, and PS3 uses Blu-Ray which can hold about 50 Gigs. (See what i did there ;D), so comparing games like Uncharted 2/3, and Halo, PS3 simply outdoes Xbox. The reason xbox has better multiplatform graphics(not even graphics, PS3 usually just gets rips.) It's only because PS3 gets the port, just like Wii. Because as I said before, xbox has easier code and smaller harddrive space, so it has to be VERY limited to creative expansion and texture. More examples of limitation, IF a company decides to actually do good things, and regardless of the xbox's problems, have the game visually stunning, the Xbox gets more than 1 disc, which isn't good. Overall, I'm not saying Xbox is ****, just compared to PS3, the standards that Microsoft has given the Xbox is below the PS3. One last thing, What kind of a company like Microsoft, which made IE, doesn't put it in their own gaming console? At the very least any other explorer.
that is the LAST thing it is. your an idiot who just wants to stop the hate
true, i would too, but at LEAST think up some valid arguments

Because shooters =! voxel building. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any voxel building games, but other games should head into a different direction. Also, how does it not make sense? Minecraft is going to come in and steal the player base that currently play Fortresscraft/total miner.
So by your logic any game on a console sucks as most console games cannot be modded?
Also keeping craft at the end of the name shouldn't really mean anything. It's a name. It's not like the entire game was just copied.
To that first part, to be honest, there's some truth to that. I'd much rather have Skyrim for PC than Skyrim for xbox 360. I don't agree that any game on a console sucks, but 9 out of 10 times PC versions are better.
And as for the game, well I don't consider minecraft an RPG, sure they added levels and RPG elements, but in the end it's still a sandbox game essentially. They both really are the same genre of game. While I personally think FortressCraft is a horribly bad game in the state it's in now, it's not because I think it copied minecraft, it's because I just don't like how it is.
