Yes, twiddling your thumbs in a certain manner to manipulate a complex device which links to an entertainment module that sprays constant signals and sounds at you which all must be noticed at the same time. Sorry, just wanted to correct what you said.
I was talking to a kid about games and here is how it went. Me=Me, Kid=The other kid.
Me: So yea I was really enjoying Portal 2
Kid: You play Portal 2? That game is retarded. All you do is shoot Portals on walls.
Me: So what kind of games do you play?
Kid: Ones where you get to blow stuff up and shoot people.
(Countles raging on both sides then proceeded to happen.)
I hate obsessive 10-year-olds who play FPS games like TF2, whose parents bought them a Turtle Beach headset worth $300
Ear-rape.Also, I have to get this off my chest.
I absolutely HATE people who say videogames cause violence. If anything, they stop it!
Let me explain. The thirst for violence is a natural human need. Ever since the dawn of mankind, we have loved to beat the crap outta each other. It's just a human need. Violent videogames quench this thrist, this thirst for seeing other people dieing in the dust from the wounds you inflicted. Has anyone, and be honest, ever heard of a murderer or serial killer whose actions were fueled by 'violent videogames?'
I think the stupidest thing I have ever heard about video games is that gaming is a sport such as MLG. I'm sorry but twiddling your thumbs is not a sport.
Just had a debate with my friend and later my mother about this. I do think it qualifies. Games like, most notably, Starcraft are competetive events between two or more humans and are watched by many people for entertainment. I don't even agree with the definition Chocolate posted, while today "Sport" refers to physical activity, I consider it to be any competetive event. Did you know ESPN had Chess matches?
"Sport" comes from the Old French desport meaning "leisure", with the oldest definition in English from around 1300 being "anything humans find amusing or entertaining".[6] -Wikipedia
Also, while it does say "The French word for sport is based on the Persian word bord, meaning "winning" or "win". The Chinese term for sport, tiyu (体育; 體育) connotes physical training. The modern Greek term for sport is Αθλητισμός (athlitismos), directly cognate with the English terms "athlete" and "athleticism". there is also "Other meanings include gambling and events staged for the purpose of gambling; hunting; and games and diversions, including ones that require exercise.[7] Roget's defines the noun sport as an "activity engaged in for relaxation and amusement" with synonyms including diversion and recreation.[8]" The bolded part is the most important.
I'd say that Video Games are an activit engaged in for relaxation and/or amusement. Plus, games like Starcraft, one of the most popular eSports, have huge amounts of strategy, situational awareness and tactical thinking involved, at least as much as any of the popular physical sports. In, say, soccer, you have strategy involved with various plays and maneuvers. In Starcraft or League of Legends you have maneuvers, economy management and so on. There's no good reason for eSports to not be considered legitimate sports.
This, I think, is the most important part of that argument. eSports and Sports should be umbrellas to identify different types of activity. Video games and such would be under eSports, while activities that involve athleticism and such should fall under Sports. Having them lumped together, regardless of the 'roots' of the word, is just plain silly.

Finally someone gets this.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

True. That's the term I hear used to describe Starcraft and LoL competitions all the time, distinguishing between standard sports and eSports is important because everyone associates "Sports" with physical activity, even though depending on the dictionary that's not always true. My friend once said that a video game cannot be a sport because it involves no physical activity. Technically, that's not correct but based off of common usage it is.
How people can play games based on sports. If I wanted to play golf, I would go outside. I never understood how people could like sports games. Everything about it just makes me shake my head in disapproval.

Wii Sports is nice because you get at least some exercise and you can play outdoor sports even when it's raining.
I'm willing to bet that those images of Garry's Mod were made by that site.

I never really enjoyed the Wii. I could never get the controls right. However I did manage to eventually get good at it. I enjoyed Super Smash Bros Brawl a lot. I just can't do sport games.. I'm too lazy I guess.
1. We're gamers, we don't go outside.
2. It's not quite as realistic as real golf, meaning less failing.
3. I hate sports games though, but I understand why some people would play them.
That was the best post I've ever seen ^-^
However yeah I fail pretty much at golf. I just can't play a sports game. It feels too boring. I'd feel like we need a car explosion in there.
So what sports game have you generally enjoyed most (or hated the least?)
But agreed, it's still not a sport.

I've known V.G.s don't cause violence since I was 5.
If anything, they help vent out rage.
Yeah, no.

You just read multiple Atheists pretending to be Christians making up extremist reasons as to why Minecraft is evil.
They did Garry's Mod too.
