Tastes, each person is entitled to their opinion. I'm more worried about the all CAPSLOCK title to tell you the truth.
Though if you want a good answer, I'd say that WoW made the bar, it didn't set it the bar high nor low for every other MMO that was to come, WoW made that bar, it certainly wasn't the first MMO but it was one of the first A+ rating MMOs ever made, which pretty much opened the flood gates to the rest of A+ MMOs.
If the MMO genre was a dungeon run WoW would be Leeeeeerroooooooy Jeeeeeeenkiiiins.
just so i get answers

I was a hardcore raider for years. For one of those years I was in one of the top guilds, but my entire life that year was WoW. I didn't do work, school, or anything else. Just WoW. That's what those guilds are like. I eventually quit it.
I ran a guild in WotLK, but gave it away after a few months and stayed an officer for a few more months before quitting forever. I left WoW the week before my guild took down the Lich King. I have no regrets.
In the 5 years I played, my wife and I spend about $1000 on it each.
It is an mmo where the main basis of the game is "grind your ass off, achieve success"
The funny thing is, my little brother plays WoW. He has never legitimately gotten a lv85. his friend gave him one. my little brother always does the same thing:
1) make character
2) level up character
3) level 20-40, im bored
4) delete character
5) go back to 1)
He never has any real fun, and the 'excitement' of a 'raid' has worn off. The only times i see him enjoy himself happens to be the only time that his friends are on. It seems that game revolves around grinding your ass off and playing with friends.
Plus, the game is too easy.
For one, you autolock your targets.
For two, there are no consequences other than 'damaged armor'
three, lack of a dynamic world. I mean dynamic by 'city x has been raided by y and has been lost!'
I could go on, but i guess ill stop here. Any game that has no consequences and autotargets for you is easy.
I don't know yet, all my friends play and they finally got me to play last night after a really long time of trying to convince me. I probably wouldn't have if my friend hadn't paid for everything already. It's not costing me anything to play it for 3 months, so I might as well give it a try.

Go play pretty much any asian mmo, rip your eyes off due to excessive grinding, come back and say that again.

As an amateur in game design I'd say World Of Warcraft is maybe the most enthusiastic and daring project ever to be started and finished in the history of video games. It has been perfectly created to simulate a real world, be able to withstand the challenge of coming video games with better graphics. They have also put a lot of work into making the game as addicting as possible lining it up with being almost as addictive as drugs (varying, but for some it can be terrible to quit).
It's definetely the finest project ever finished in my opinion, however this doesn't make me approve of how addicting it is, but they really did a great job with the game.
I would say it is a lot of things, you can rarely get bored and the farming is so boring but made so well that just when you are about to give up you get what you needed for that last piece of gear, and even at maximum level cap there are exciting raids and all. If you have all 3 gear sets with the 3 talents, epic flying, max gold, Im sure there is something else on there you can do.
The thing about 10 day trials that make them bad is, 10 days isn't enough to show the game. It's alot more fun if you get to a higher level. It's of course bad that people also think that that's it.
Theres no longer a 10 day limit, since a month or so. All the other limits of the free account apply.

Where are these people saying WoW is great because I've never seen one before.
What's so bad about WoW? Why do I hear WoW being the worst game ever conceived and is likened to crack? I can of many other games that waste more time and degrade your brain faster than WoW.
If you don't like WoW then you probably wouldn't like the MMO genre. WoW is pretty much the best there is, which is both a good and a bad thing.
If you just played the trial I shake my head in disappointment at you sir for basing your judgement off of of that. If you only get to level 40 or 50 and based your judgement off of that, I still shake my head in disappointment. WoW was a revolutionary game and extremely fun. It just doesn't seem as fun to many others and even WoW veterans now that it has gotten a little old, which I cannot understand why. It was fun because the multiplayer interaction was amazing. It was fun because there was so much story you could become immersed and ultimately sucked into the world of history. It was fun because there was so much stuff for you to do so you never got bored. Blizzard is a company that even when there game is on top, they constantly keep making it better.

It's a very fun and addicting game for some people. I played it when I was 12(I'm 14 now) with my friend. I bought it during the summer and spent around 3-4 hours on every day on average. I soon realized what I was getting into and quit after two months. It's just a time and money drain. It is literally the crack or meth of video games. Even now, two years later I have urges to play it but I resist them because I don't want to spend all my time on it. My friend's brother didn't quit and he plays a ton. Granted, he doesn't really have any friends and anything to do besides play videogames and play with remote control cars...
And also, its a level 85 death knight. GET YER EXPANZIONZ RITE. :biggrin.gif:
