Everyone keeps saying that Skyrim looks like the greatest game in E3 but I seriously don't understand what people see in it that makes them so confident about it. I did not like Oblivion or Fallout and people say those are already GREAT games. I discussed Farcry 3 a while ago and people kept saying Skyrim looked better. (Not battlefield 3, not Farcry 3, but Skyrim!)
I don't understand why?
WHY ARE PEOPLE SO EXCITED FOR SKYRIM??? I DON'T GET IT!!!
Skyrim will be a great game no matter what because it is from one of the best developers Bethesda. They always make some of the greatest RPG games ever. I know Farcry 3 looks good, but we haven't seen no where the amount of gameplay that we have seen from Skyrim. If you are a guy that doesn't like RPGs that is fine, but for the folks that do know it will be the best game this year.
First, the menus are pure sex, basically. The crisp, floating text, tiered menus and full 3D renderings of every inventory item is light years ahead of the fugly boxes and fuzzy, endless lists of Oblivion and Fallout 3. Seriously: these may be the best-looking in-game menus in history.
and, the world is so much more alive. You’ll see packs of wolves hunting mammoths, you’ll see fearsome beasts such as giants wander by without bothering you because they’re off on other business rather than being mindless killers, you’ll see friendly passers-by running up to you with a sword you dropped earlier and offering to return it – or taking a pop at you with it if they have some reason to despise you.

I think Bethesda remains true to the idea of an RPG in every title they have created. You truly do get to pick the role you want to play. Dont feel like doing the main quest? Dont! Go off to the Shivering Isles or join the Knights of the Nine in their quests. Or travel the world dungeon diving, vanquishing bandits, joining a guild, or mod the game to your pleasure to add something you felt was missing.
The world was literally sculptable in your hands. Albeit, it had a very strict linear MQ, once you finished there were endless possibilities. Ontop of it, Bethesda probably has one of the most powerful game editors out (next to Blizzards RTS game editors).
There are people who love sturcture. They play the game for its main plot. When its over, they gain a sense of completion. Others play for the achievements. I think those tht play an ORPG like Oblivion, Morrowind are looking to immerse themselves in a world with few barriers. Where the game can be played for 100s of hours and still be an enjoyable experience.
It is not everyones cup of tea. But those who enjoys open RPGs tend to look on the Elders Scrolls series favourably. Fanboyism might have a little to do with it. However, I think Bethesda has earned every inch of it. Even with the drawbacks Oblivion had to its predecessor, Morrowind, it was still miles above most other RPGs on the market.

Bethesda.Bethesda has never published a game I didnt like. The Elder Scrolls games have all been superb so far.I can't see this one being anything less than awesome.
Because they are Bethesda, a company that improves upon itself and wont produce utter crap.
You can count on Bethesda games like you can count on valve games.

I personally believe the Elder Scrolls games to be the best RPGs mainly because I haven't really played any other due to liking these ones so much.

and those are only a couple.
What more do you need?
This and play Oblivion and then come back to me.

Like the civilization series used to have. Then Civ 4 came out. Then Civ 5 came out. I can tell you, I certainly won't be purchasing 6.
