Obviously it's difficult to compare HL2 with Minecraft, but what I can say is that Minecraft is the game I've had the most trouble to stop playing, sitting to 03:30 (AM) on a work day when I first bought it. Several months after that, I still play quite a lot although not to that extent.
HL2 is truly fantastic as well. But personally I did rather dislike the (more or less) constant dealing with puzzles. Especially in the episodes, it sometimes becomes ridiculous how you need to run like a rat in a maze, pulling levers or doing something at almost each and every turn. It's not that it was very difficult, it just became so apparent how the game was "rigged" to slow you down, that it broke the immersion for me.
Can't really decide both games are good cause of the gameplay so if theres 'both' in the poll thats what im gonna vote.
Well quite the contrary but minecraft gets updated everytime while half-life 2 just gets new episodes that you have to buy(i heard that episode 3 is coming).

Half Life just does not have the replay ability that Minecraft has.
I've put more time in Half-Life 2 than I ever will into Minecraft. I've played through Half-Life 2 at least 10 times already, and I make it a point to play through at least once a year. It's one of the greatest games out there.

im sorry, but i do not beleive "minecraft is the greatest game of all time" i think that there is no true "best game" and that each and every one has strengths and weaknesses, and that they should all be enjoyed for what they are.

This isn't even doorknobs to cheese, apples to oranges, or anything, it's space-shuttles to cardiac arrest. [Not in that one of them is bad; in that they're so different]
You can't compare these two games, this is preposterous! (a much more fairer comparison is Terraria VS Minecraft, eh?)

It's like you ask us what is better:

But to be honest, I'd have to say a draw.
Half-Life is an amazing game, basically my favourite game of all time.
And Minecraft is very good but the thing is, Half Life just does not have the replay ability that Minecraft has.

So they cannot be at all compared IMO.
Second off, These games are NOTHING ALIKE AT ALL except for being in first person.
