People keep mentioning Amnesia, guess I will have to look in to it.
It depends on what creeps you out, really. To me, yeah, other games are worse, because the scares in Minecraft are more jump scares than anything. Since MC isn't about atmosphere, any pants wetting comes from suddenly seeing something come after you.
I prefer the atmospheric ones myself, like Silent Hill. Although if this game had Pyramid Head, that would be a different story...
system shock 2 will always be my number one scary game.
you see, there's three types of scary in vg's
1. when you enter a room and a monster jumps out of the closet yelling BOO! (that would be the original alone in the dark)
2. when tension builds and builds, feuled by a scary atmosphere, and it gets to the point where you'll sh*t your pants if even a mouse runs past your screen (system shock 2)
3. when you're at one end of a football field and at the other end there's a criminally insane retard running at you as fast as he can holding a crowbar, it may scare you, but by the time he gets to the 50 yard line you've already shot him and organized his funeral. (that would be most modern "horror" games i.e. bioshock, dead space, etc)
minecraft doesnt scare me, but it does startle me.
Penumbra and Amnesia. I don't have Amnesia, and I only have Overture, but every time I hear the chase music that comes on in both games when a monster sees you I just freak out. And that's saying something, most "scary" things aren't too scary to me. In the beginning of Penumbra, at the part where you get into the workshop and the dog breaks through the door, THAT scared me shitless. And all that sneaking around, having the constant fear that the monster will see you, BRILLIANT.
I am a big fan of horror games, and yes I've played games that are much scarier than Minecraft. DooM 3 and FEAR 2 comes to mind. But I don't get scared, simply because I'm a though customer when it comes to horror games. Yes, I know and will play Amnesia but I don't have the time right now.
I'm guessing you founds those eerie sounds in game to be scary? When I hear those sounds I say: "Yay, a big cave is in front of me." and I start to dig like crazy.
Also I like to hear eerie horrific sounds in games. I just find them interesting, DooM 3 is full of them.
minecraft is horrific but resident evil 2 is slighty more scary.besides all of you guys re tlking about creepers or caves the true horror is herobine or the shadow.if u dont know what the shadow is i will make a thread cause i saw it!
This is a no brainer. F.E.A.R makes you **** in your pants in the dark and Dead Space makes you wake up screaming in the middle of the night "GET THE LITTLE THINGS OFF ME" then wake yourself up to find you pissed your pants...
