Mondern Warfare 2 had the most frustrating and incredibly broken multiplayer I've ever seen in a game, and Black Ops felt just like a re-skinning with very slight improvements...but even worse lagging/connection problems. No CoD game after CoD:4 deserves anywhere near the ratings that they received.
IMO MW2's multiplayer was so broken it like wrapped around and became fun again- since every gun is cheap you don't really care about k/d and have a more overall enjoyable experience.
Also, what makes WaW so great anyways. Yeah it had zombies but if you take that away it's just another generic WW2 simulator with a overthetop storyline.
-New-Gen Resident Evil (RE4 & RE5): Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy these games. Hell, I've played through RE4 at least 5 times, but to be completely honest, I don't prefer the gameplay over the older games. The fixed camera angles and amazing ambience from the original style of RE is what took the cake for me. Not to mention I thought the style of the controls made it more desperate and challenging. In the new games, you can easily knock an opponent away with a cinematic swan kick, and then proceed to unload ungodly amounts of ammo into your opponents. In the old games, you were the luckiest man alive if you had spare magnum rounds.
-Left 4 Dead: Also another game I enjoy, but I can't stand to play more than 1 round of it before I have to set it aside. The game itself is so demoralizing no matter what difficulty you're playing on. It almost feels like a chore to play through the whole mission, at times.
-Assassin's Creed 2/Brotherhood: The cinematic cut-scenes and the overplayed Hollywood epic aesthetic is so rehashed in so many games nowadays, it's not interesting at all. I prefer the original for it's simple in-game cutscenes and relaxed camera fixations. It may seem ridiculous, but the way a game presents itself to me is extremely important.
Call of Duty: While being good looking and doing what it's supposed to do well (shoot bad guy in face, repeatedly), it's a very overplayed game by practically everyone, with too many over competitive people (which can be said about most shooters)
Dragon Age: Another game that is overhyped and played by too many people. I have seen many playthroughs of it by multiple 'Let's Players' and, honestly, I don't understand the big deal.
Fable 2: I played it through multiple times, and was kinda disappointed. Skills leveled much too quickly, all characters (unless meticulously micro managed) end up looking fat, scarred and ugly, the re-playability was poor, and the DLC isn't worth the money. All in all, a disappointing game, but I -am- looking forward to playing the 3rd one, and hoping it 'fixes' the failures of it's predecessor.
World of Warcraft: While being the best in 'hotkey-based' MMORPG's, it still is the same thing over and over again. It's an outdated system and more and more gamers are looking for something new out of their MMO. 'PRESS BUTTAN WATCH CASTBAR' only goes so far, and unless WoW innovates itself something fierce, it will die out. The story is good, and like I said, it is still the best at what it does and the dying out won't come very quickly, and this is from someone who has had an active subscription for 5 years.
I could probably come up with ALOT more games that I find overrated.
to dig my grave with if you wish

as a good rule of thumb, you should ALWAYS read the first page of any thread, before you post.
Have you tried any other mmorpg's out there? And please realize that this is quite an old game and even then it's extremely good. No one has even came close to WoW lore and its gameplay (especially PvE) and that really means something, you know.
Go play practically any good mmorpg.... way better than WoW.
Ever heard of Darkfall? Gameplay is WAY better than crappy wow. WoW is this:
*left click*(auto lock)
*Mash buttons/macros/ and mash your clicker on all your spells on the hotbar, while hopping around like an idiot*
and let me define the core gameplay...
*hmm... You need some new armour...*
*but to get new armour you need gold...*
*but to get gold you need new armour*
Also, for another reason some games are viewed to be good when the gameplay sucks...
The story. sure, having a good story can help you play the game and make it more enjoyable, it is not supposed to be the main part of the game.
A game is called a game for a reason, not a book. Saints row 2 beats GTA4 due to the fact playing GTA is more like a chore, whereas SR2 is random fun. You are very limited in GTA4. GTA4 relies on its 'story' to keep you going. I did not like this. Gameplay is what matters, not storybooks.
Nice way to say to anyone who has played WoW you have never even tried it in it's current state..
If Darkfall is so good, then explain to me why it isn't dominating the market as much as WoW does, and WoW kills even the greatest mmos in a few weeks. It's good, sure, it's overrated but it is the best mmo. No other MMO has had this effect on its market.
WoW's story is intriguing now, you WANT to learn more, why is this deathwing so freakin' annoyed? Why is that gnome killing the other gnomes? Why am I killing naga as a troll and how is this sea-witch related to our leader?
And not only that, but the mechanics that half the mmos in the market copied they were so effective. That aren't grindy *cough, aion, cough* or over powered. And a fairly decent community. I mean, sure, it's expensive, but it gets updated regularly, and bug fixes weekly. That compensates.
I AM ranting, but only because ignorant fools go on about Wow being crap and Warhammer Online being the best, or Aion gonna kill WoW dude! Because it's not. Games don't become the most popular for no reason, it's either because they're good, fun, or addictive. Peace.
As for the darkfall thing:
1: Requires a GOOD computer. Yep, thats right, you lil kiddies with your dinosaur computers cant run this game.
2: Requires an IQ above 0. WoW is SO simple
No infinite respawns without risk for you, buddy. Yep, thats right, there is an incentive to staying alive.
as for the WoW story...
Not a very good one to me. Too predictable, and seems mostly like an asspull.
Blankly, orcs vs humans. typical.
then they just shoved whatever race they thought into which faction would fit it.
And made up a story about it.
Personally, i dont think the stories are very well.
but if you like stories that are comprehensible by 6 year olds go ahead...
and i only play mmorpgs that actually have a GOOD rpg part, none of that grinding ****.
Seriously, the game practically plays itself. All you have to do is pull the enemy without grabbing too many, and mash your macros till your fingers fall off. I would not call that a very good gameplay aspect...
WoW is only popular because it is the EASIEST game to master.
it takes little to no skill the level up all the way and get tons of money.
and with the new dungeon finder, its even easier.
and as somebody else said:

You are now reading this. You just lost the game.
You have just read this. You are also manually breathing.
ok, what I get form this thread is that every popular game is overrated. yes, a game does have to be popular to be overrated, but not every popular game is overrated.
wow, everything after CoD 4, everything after guitar hero 2. the first game is usually good, then they just start milking it.

I have to say, Street Fighter 4. I am sorry, but I played this a couple times and I don't see why so many people I know like it. Anther one has to be, of course, Call of Duty: Black Ops. For some reason everyone at my school is having a debate about which is better, CoD or Halo. It gets annoying. Another is defiantly BlazBlue. I HATE this game. The characters are so forgettable. Though there is a story, it doesn't make to much sense in my eyes. Let's see.... other overrated games...... *Checks Video Game Reviews*.... Oh! The Golden Sun games. Pretty alright in gameplay, but THE F***ING TALKING AND TALKING AND BLA BLA BLA! Another, (sorry for so much games) Donkey Kong Country Returns. Just Donkey King Country. All I can say. Finally, every single Sonic game EVER. I don't get it. First of all, he's a hedgehog. That's like if Shepperd from Mass Effect was a prairie dog. Second of all, the characters are horrible! The spin-offs are bad, the core games are bad, and my god Sonic Free Riders sucks. (Not to mention the cartoons, oh god 0.0)
