I am NOT going to see friend requests, so stop sending them.
I played it quite alot with a group of friends all the way up through Unite. We all had at least 300 hours on that game, I think. Such an incredible series.
Unfortunately, Tri happened. Everyone I know INSTANTLY lost interest when that came out. It was like the series degraded. Went from all the awesome content of Unite, back to a small enough amount that it was like going back to the very first game. I tried to get into it myself, but I was done with it after about 8 hours. Just the removal of most of the weapon classes was enough to forever put me off of it; in Unite I pretty much stuck with 4 specific weapon types, the Hunting Horn, Bow, Lance, and Greatsword. Tri removed the Horn and Bow, leaving me with the Lance, and a Greatsword, the controls for which I swear just didnt work right anymore. The other weapons I really couldnt stand using.
In the end, all Tri did was further cement my absolute hatred for Capcom.
I definitely miss playing the Monster Hunter games, it was pretty much the ONLY multiplayer thing I could do with my friends around here (most of them just play FPS types otherwise, which I cant stand).
That, and those games were just awesome.
Tri was amazing.
I still haven't finished it. I think it's a more casual approach for an MH game.
And besides, they removed two types of weapons and added one. I personally like the Switch Axe.
Dont get me wrong; Tri itself wasnt actually a BAD game in my opinion. Indeed, it was decent enough, I guess.
But it was like they took my favorite game, chopped it in half, pulled out some random bits, and handed me the remains. There just wasnt any excuse for that.
And they didnt remove two types of weapons. They removed four: Hunting Horn, Bow, Dual Blades, Gunlance. I might be forgetting others.
This, combined with the drastically smaller monster list (which meant ALOT less overall stuff to find and go after) and a few other changes, made it, well.... yeah. I saw no point in playing Tri when I had Unite available, which is just better in every way.
Also, I admit that the fact that it's on the Wii doesnt help, in my case. I loathe the thing with a passion. There IS a Wii sitting here in my room, but A: it's not mine, B: lately it's mostly just used to set stuff on. Havent turned it on in at least 2 months.
Also, I never tried the Switch Axe, but the animations for it looked like they were pulled offa the Longsword (always hated using those). At least that's what I thought when I saw the thing. But I got bored with the game long before I could try it myself.

Tri has less content because it was started from scratch. At least all the monsters in there are ORIGINAL and not RECOLORED.
Actually, if you take out the recolored monsters, MHT has more content.

*shrugs* To each their own. I never minded the recolored monsters myself. It made sense from a design point of view, and made it so there were that many more types of weapons and armor to choose from.
Also, Tri isnt as "from scratch" as it might look. Try looking closely at some of the monster animations, and compare them to previous games. Alot of them are recycled. To be fair though, they've been doing that with the series since the first version of 2 came out (So many monsters using the "giant angry chicken" animation set of the Kut-Ku). It's one aspect of the games I never really liked... cause it seemed lazy... but whatever.
Either way, I dont actually hate Tri, I just had no reason to play it, since I still had Unite.
If/When they go and make the rumored PSP version, I might check it out.... not sure.

Not all of them are original, such as Felynes, Rathian/Rathalos and Popos.
I'm sure I'm missing some more, but yeah...
You get my point.

Well, yeah...
In my opinion, it's too different to be considered worse or better.

I just played MHT for the first time in a month. Actually, I did pretty good. Managed to take down 2 Royal Ludroths at the same time in about 5 mins.

Royal Ludroth are pushovers.
So far, the only one's I've had problems with are Barroth and Gobul.
Which Tye wants to use me as bait for.
****ing hate Barroth. Even with my superior equipment, I can barely hold my own against him. Gobul is easy once you learn his attacks, though.

Barroth just takes forever to set up a proper kill for.
