@ A.I. - I have heard many of the same things, but only from people who go into the game expecting World of Warcraft with spaceships and don't stay long enough to figure out the true fun parts of the game.
@ blaster - It really isn't a grind once you get past the initial missions and PvE sites. Also, it really is a tactical command game when you get to the large scale PvP operations. I have flown in 200+ pilot fleets and followed the commands of my fleet commander. You really just end up commanding units who have the best artificial intelligence you will ever find.
When I first started playing the game it took me several months to get into it. I even quit the game for a period of time. The reason I love the game is the unprecedented level of player cooperation needed to be successful. That was the true, obstacle of the game. Finding a group of players I could work well with. Once I found that everything fell into place. I ended up finding my niche to be manipulating the in game economy to maximize my profits.
I also love the fact that with intelligence, you can overcome any other player, no matter the difference in gameplay experience.
Is there anyone else on the forum who has bothered to play the game for more than a month before making an opinion? :x
Me and my older brother used to play that, although i only had a character on his account.
It was fun, he even let me fly his apoc once, i blew it up by accident because i only thought smartbombs effected targeted enemies. I thought wrong and hit the police, in seconds i was blown to peices and i hid in the cupboard until the heat from my brother's angry, swollen up face had gone down.
I made some good money (from a noob's view) by buying cheap electronics, flying somewhere and sell them for a good price.
While travelling, i mostly read a book or something :biggrin.gif:
One day, i accidentially got into 0.4 sec area
I headed up to the screen and was like "hey, didn't i have a ship?"
Three spawn campers roasted me and my pod.
Autopiloting is a pretty dangerous if you dont have your autopilot settings in good order. I used that method of trading for awhile till I had enough to buy myself a POS, but I my personal friend (and much more experienced player) who apparently puts several billion ISK in at a time and gets a several hundred million profit, via that same method.
I've been playing since December. Recently got an Orca to use as a mini-carrier and trade ship. Working on assault ships right now. I want to get an ishkur since I mostly focus on drone stuff for combat. Usually fly a domi at the moment.
I've gotten pretty rich from scamming. I never really intended to scam going into it, but one day someone was doing the "SEND ME ISK AND I'LL DOUBLE IT" scam near Jita, and I jokingly typed it in whatever system I was in and promptly started receiving money. Then I moved on to a lottery scam that made me a few hundred million ISK, but was inefficient. I spammed fake contracts in Jita for about a week (highest one I ever sold was a normal Dominix for like 285mil or something). It's absolutely absurd how well it works. You immediately understand why so many people do it. But now I just do the easiest one:
1. Buy standard issue popular cruiser for around 3-4mil ISK
2. Create contract>auction>min bid 35-50 mil, buyout around 60-70mil.
3. Details: label it "Navy Issue <popular cruiser name>"
4. Wait a week or less
5. Make 33mil + in profit per contract and get an email saying "OMFG YOUR SO LUCKY IWAS STONED WHEN I BOGHT THAT" (no kidding, I just got this message a couple days ago, lol)
In my experience these work about 1/3 of the time. You don't have to spam. You don't have to do anything. Just post it near Jita or in a busy place. Although if you post a whole bunch at once they don't seem to sell as well, so don't get greedy.
Felt kind of bad about scamming at first, but then I realized I was scamming people with ridiculous amounts of money most of the time, so I don't really sweat it any more. If I ever quit eve I'll probably blow some people's minds and do the normal ISK scam but actually double everyone's money til I'm out :biggrin.gif:
I never got into the scamming all that much. The most pirate like thing I ever did was a bit of canflipping in hisec. Right now, I work with my small corporation and do plex's and the occasional wormhole. In a class one wormhole we can make about 400-500 mil in two hours doing combat sites and the profit skyrockets in more difficult wormholes. Out in syndicate we can make excess of a billion in the ded 10/10 combat sites that spawn.
I downed assult ships awhile ago and just about never flew mine. Since I switched to industry I use my limited play time and fly my ubertanked abaddon. Right now, my agenda is to get into transport ships, mainly the prorator in order to ease my trips in and out of nullsec. After that it's the long haul of perfecting gunnery skills and amarr battleships to 5. My battleship skills need to be great so that when I buy my bhaalgorn I can just drain the **** out of anything that messes with me. After THAT I don't really know where I'm going to go. Maybe marauders, maybe tech two cruisers. Maybe even capitals. I'll have the money.
If you live anywhere near gallente nullsec you should come fly with me and my Corp. I promise we won't blow you up...
Holy crap. I really want to play EVE and your guyses posts just make me want to play it more. I absolutely love LOVE how you can scam people and it's their own damn fault they got scammed. I don't have the money to support it yet though!!!....
I don't do the scamming anymore. Once I figured out I could make a whole lot more money a whole lot faster other ways, I moved out to nullsec. I only go into hisec for trade. I'm afraid one day I'm going to be flying through hisec and my nullsec instincts will kick in. One unthinking activation of my guns and bam! Concord galore. >.<
I might take the plunge, but I have yet to see just how much a PLEX costs.
You think I could earn enough for one in the 14-day Trial, given about 3-4 hours of gameplay a day and the first day or two as a learning period?
With a brand new character probably not... To be able to fly a cruiser well you need about a week of training right off the bat and then to get enough for a PLEX... that's a whole different story.
I assume you don't want to pay with real money, but regardless, if you are interested, I can distribute extended free trials (as can any other active account owner). Going into the game with the mentality "I have to get X if I want to keep playing" is a virtual end game. Thats how I did it the first time and I quit after my first month. The stress of trying to learn a game like EVE and the schedule required to pay with ISK, the game is not fun.
