So I got Oblivion for my computer. I did a system check and I'm just above the minimal requirements. Whatever, I don't care much for graphics anyway. Alright, so it loads up with no problems at all. Cool. Now, this is kind of bizarre, when I'm playing, I get probably close to 60 FPS when looking at the environment. Awesome, I love lost of FPS.
However, whenever a character model comes on screen it drops to about 15 FPS. Why? All my settings are on the lowest it can be, but the problem still persists. Is there a way to solve this so that I constantly get about 60 FPS that I'm not aware of?
Unfortunately there isn't much else you can do without upgrading your computer. Oblivion is very poorly optimized and will have performance problems on even the best computers. My own computer is well beyond the recommended requirements and I still get lag.
Hmm. I also used to play Oblivion on a computer that could barely "scrape by". What are your system specs? I could guess the likelihood of an enjoyable experience based on my (perhaps limited) experience.
There's also some utilities that remove a lot of excess objects, (testing material left in the game) you could also try the PCB (purge cell buffers) ring it may have to load a little more often though.
