What do you guys think about this game? I just bought it last month and I'm totally hooked to that game now. Though it's a buggy game, there's so much stuff to do and there are a lot of surprising moments, also a lot of scary moments too D:.
There was one time when I was coming back from the zombified land of X-16, I come across a fortress with about 5 soldiers guarding the building located at the fences. It was the only way through. As I fight them, I hide around the corner as I reload and change my weapon. When I look up, one of the soldier ran up to me and shot me with a double barrel. I reloaded the game and took care of the soldiers. As I get to the top of the building, I look over the map of the railroad and traintracks. Suddenly, I notice a bloodsucker running around eating a human while visible. I shoot him and he runs over hiding in his solitary confinement lol. I then ran pass by him with fear.
Discuss your moments, encounters, deaths, whatever.
I honestly haven't played much of this. The last thing I did was painstakingly creep through the camp where Nimble was being held hostage and knife the eight people in it. After that I just kind of set it aside and forgot all about it. I'll pick it up again and post any shenanigans.
I got Stalker while it was $2 on steam and thought it was amazing. It's not as polished as some modern games, but it's the first game in a long time that's given me that old school RPG feeling where you can just go out and do whatever you want, and you can head off into some horrible dangerous area to try and get better equipment and that sort of thing. Good times.
I loved the game for its atmosphere and general gameplay. It lacked eye candy (except for parallax mapping!!). I thought It had a nice story line, although most say its doesn't. I guess they just didn't read the dialog or made bad choices. Most of my friends that have played it had lost interest around the start where wolfram stopped. But I think the game gets real exiting shortly after the first few missions.

I've been binging on this since my last post in this thread. I tried a couple of mods but I couldn't get the feel I wanted until I started taking bits and pieces from many different places. Improved shaders, improved stealth detection, darker nights, realistic textures, traders offer a repair service, and a sleeping bag to pass time incrementally. More immersive, more practical, but not too heavily tampered with.
I knifed a bloodsucker to death, but when I tried to knife-hunt bigger game (pseudo-giant) I went through some twenty army kits and the ******* just kept on coming. Eventually just resorted to grenades. Speaking of grenades, did I mention that when I got stuck in one of those vertical tubes out in the Rostok Wild Territory, I managed to grenade jump out? I was bleeding from every orifice, but at least I was free.
Screw the lab out at Yantar, by the way. Creepy as all hell and stressful. Without spoiling too much, I'll just say I had 5~ seconds left before my brain melted out my ears. Dig it? It was close.
I think the hardest part of the game was making my way through the Monolith base at the end. The radiation was so bad that I lasted 5 minutes the first time through. I eventually had to make my way back to the Duty base to pick up the giant pile of rad medicine I left lying on the ground in a pile. Finally made it all the way in and then got the greed ending. Nothing like dying in a pile of rubble after you reach the goal you had been fighting a long time for.
My favorite experience however was early on in the game when I accidentally attracted a giant swarm of dogs onto my ass. In my rush to escape, I ran right into a field full of anomalies right into which the dogs ran. It was the most peculiar experience ever to have dogs exploding getting sucked into invisible vortexes around me and then exploding in gory messes. I laughed...
Thanks to this post I think I'm going to go and buy the newest installment, Call of Pripyat!
I've got Clear Sky, but not SoC. Clear sky is okay, but the ridiculously low accuracy on your weapons and the ridiculously HIGH accuracy on the enemies' weapons makes it a bit raeg-inducing.
Also, can't figure out where the **** to go when you have to get to the vehicle dump. I went near it and my geiger counter jumped. I went closer, and died.
If anyone feels the need to be a kind soul, perhaps in penance for a past misdeed, gift me SoC on steam.

Shadow gun accuracy is much the same. If I recall correctly, increasing your stalker rank makes you more accurate. Other than that, make sure to lean from behind cover in a full crouch and burst fire. It's really only the earliest guns that I ever have a problem with, and only then if I stubbornly try to fire on targets from two hundred meters away. To me, the accuracy (or lack thereof) is more realistic and I like that.
Of course, maybe Clear Sky is totally different. I'm going to get it and Call of Pripyat within the week.
I have heard that the designers made some mistakes with Clear Skies. I wouldn't know any specifics about it because I never bothered to buy it, but I have heard great things about Call of Pripyat, what media I have seen so far has gotten me more and more hyped up over it.
Played it, loved it. The first time i played it, that same night i had sleepwalking nightmares. Not fun running around your room at 4am trying to get away from the snorklers.
Whatever you do: DO NOT GET CLEAR SKY.
It's a buggy POS. I got around half way through it and cant finish it because a quest is bugged. Tons of other users suffer from similar problems (ranging from bugged missions to random crashing) and the sad thing about it is the developer refuses to release a patch.
Call of Pripyat apparently doesnt suffer from these problems though. They actually did thorough QA before releasing.

Thanks for reminding me about this game, Rodifan!
