Light Crusader for the Sega Genesis. As far as I can tell, its not a very well known nor very well received game, but it was amazing. I still play it from time to time, trying to uncover all its secrets.
It's a game that seems to be in the same vein as The Legend of Zelda, and it was made by Treasure(the same people responsible for Gunstar Heroes).
Damn I loved Abe's Odessy, and I really loved Strangers Wrath.
Time splitters, that is my favorite fps game. In future perfect, it was easy to make a map, and give it a story, full of bots and actual objectives, like "Kill the Guard Captain." and you would set up a bot that in the actual story of the game was a guard captain. or you could make the guard captain something stupid, like the main character of the game. The multiplayer was amazing, there was no online, this was before that, but you could play with your friends, or you could set up actual intelligent AI, like there path finding was amazing, and half the time, they were moving and shooting at you, so you couldn't even hit them. Damn it was a fun game.
The Chao's on Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. They were just fun, and they gave the game great replay value. The rest of the game was good, but this part was a ton of fun.
Legend of the Dragoon. Many of those who have had the PS1 do not know that game, and it is probably the best game for it by far.
Deus Ex. A surprisingly large amount of people do not know about that game, it is extremely underrated. But, it seems to be getting more popular, especially since the start up of the newest Deus Ex game.

How did I escape? With difficulty....How did I plan this moment? With pleasure
Star Craft. Despite the sequel sounding fairly popular, I am yet to hear another person talk ever about star craft as a game they played.(I would say star craft 64, but I didn't play it)
Anyways, On topic: The Witcher. Not sure how "underrated" it was but it was pretty good and not too popular back in the day. It's a shame it was overshadowed by those ridiculous Sex Trading Cards but at least the sequel got plenty of attention.
Either Penumbra or Mercenaries 2. Penumbra is a legitimately great game that I think is really overshadowed by Frictional's most recent game Amnesia which is also fantastic. Mercenaries 2 isn't as great in many respects because the game has quite a few problems, but it is one of a few games that I know of that allows me to destroy almost everything in nice open world. Just Cause 2 as similar but it lacked the level of destruction.
What? Underrated means something that's not well known or well liked that you find enjoyable, not the fact that it got good reception but you don't like it.
Such great games. Can't wait for the 4th to release!
