Graffiti Kingdom, absolutely. Easily one of the best platformers ever. Cubivore is another underrated, rare-ass game, and there are twice as many shopping results for Cubivore as Graffiti Kingdom.
Rise of Nations
Had a thing going for a while, but went out pretty damn fast.

Terranigma comes to mind. While the Gaia series of games(Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma) have been relatively less-known, this particular game caught my heart and refuses to let it go. Goddam I love it. Also, Soul Blazer is a nice enough romp through a familiar theme.
Metropolismania. It's an old game for the PS2, and everyone I saw talk about it said it was a boring, trivial city-builder. I had a blast with it, though; you basically play as a city planner who lays out the buildings in your town while keeping good relations to the citizens, who can introduce you to people and industries that want to move in. There are 5-ish very long levels, each of which you are building a whole new city, and each has its own plot twist that makes the game harder.
Spoilers of some of those twists I remember: Clan takeover, persistent theives, alien mystery, CLAN TAKEOVER
Carnage Heart is not very well-known at all, and it's a pretty niche game so I doubt a lot of people would like it if they even knew it existed. [It's a PS1 game in which you build robots to fight other robots, but instead of controlling them yourself, you create their (fairly complex) A.I. and watch them try to kill stuff.]
Mischief makers for the N64 perhaps? The game was generally slated for being cliche etc. But when it boils down to it, it was challenging enough to keep me interested and had a nice little eerie feel to it. Overall it was quite fun to play (as I remember it). I remember I got up to the first boss after quite a few restarts and I was VERY satisfied to get that far even though it slaughtered me. It was an achievement, but I didn't earn any gamer score for it! XD
Super Mario Galaxy. Most people passed it off for another Mario game, but this was special beyond the gravity and planetoid elements. There was so much damn polish that made the game ****ing shine. If only I could find my disc :sad.gif:
Not once have I ever run into another person claiming to have even heard of Ace Combat.
But the new one for the 360 kinda sucks. The plot is even more cliche than usual, the music is sub-par, and they TOOK OUT THE ****ING FALKEN!
The best one of the series, IMO, was Zero. The music was fan-****ing-tastic.
Vidyas to back me up:
- Last mission of Ace Combat: Zero. Yes, that is a ****ing laser.
The only bad thing about the series is that the Developers feel it necessary to put in some ****ing annoying fly-through-the-tunnel sequence, where you have to fly through some ridiculously small space.
Star Craft. Despite the sequal sounding fairly popular, I am yet to hear another person talk ever about star craft as a game they played.(I would say star craft 64, but I didn't play it)
Rocket knight adventures. Older but really fun game.
Mega Man Legends. Spent so many hours on that game.

You...
Starcraft is damn well the opposite of not well known. It is because of that popularity that the sequel will be popular. Then there is Korea, where it is piratically a national sport that has players that live full time playing Starcraft competitively. It is a game so widely played that nobody speaks of it, as everybody has played it.

StarCraft was one of the first RTS-es I've ever played. Damn good one, too. Anyone remember the "Alone in the Dark" mod? I played it with my brother once, and my tiny-child mind couldn't handle the horror.
Oh, I got another one. The first two Hamtaro games. They were juts straight-up kick-ass adventure games.

Barbie Detective for PC. I ****ing LOVE IT
Holy ****!
YOu can't be serious!
Ten_Tacles seems to be an expert at reviewing **** he's never played.
Hardwar. It has the best economy system ever, not to mention aerial combat. The graphics aren't to bad for a 98' game, not great, but not bad. The path finding for AI is really well done, and also, PIRATES!
The "original" version of the game gets really old quickly, but with the help of the unofficial patches: It makes one kick ass game.
EDIT: I'm also helping out on the remake of it, now it will have pixel shaders and more vertices!

Well I rule out the mainstream games...
I rule out the childish 'I'm bored rainy-day' games...

I guess I'd have to go with that.

****ing trophies and achievements eat ass.
What.
These aren't underrated at all! D:
Especially not Galaxy, which people seem to consider one of the best Mario games evurz.
