To all you female gamers out there who have been treated like **** by a male gamer because you're a girl, post here how they acted. I have actually been harassed by males on servers because I'm a girl and " I'm not supposed to be able to play video games." I've also seen it happen.
There is quite some time since i last saw that "girls shouldn't play video games" thing. Usually i hear "ur a gurl ? let's walk together" or "LOOK GALS ITS A GIRL, MARRY ME PLS". It may be because i'm playing with a bunch of Mineplex kids, but dunno.
Still. That sucks. I don't see why females shouldn't play video games. It's not like they are not human, or anything like that. :v

I think its awesome to see girls/women getting into games, especially when they're better than I am. And thats my very adult male perspective. Just as its already been stated, its most likely kids doing the harassing. They probably think they'll get cooties from girls/women playing on the same server.
The most I've gotten online is like, some kid spamming me about wanting to "team up", but i tend to play on servers with mostly 18+ people. What bugs me the most is that everyone like, automatically assumes i'm male and refers to me as sir and crap :/ I understand there are a lot of guy gamers online, but i would think at this point we would realize we have enough girl gamers that they would be a bit less presumptuous *shrug*. its not a SUPER big deal though.
But seriously, anyone who treats someone like crap because of their sex, gender, race, sexual orientation, etc, whether in minecraft or IRL, is a terrible person and should feel terrible.

You are totally right, it may not be a big deal and that is why I really didn't make a huge one out of it and I thought this would be a good place for female gamers to post there stories and stuff about it, and what you stated at the very end is totally true! the sad thing is it'll never go away completely, there is always going to be that one *** out there to say something.

You are totally right also, but even IRL, if I'm talking to someone and it ends up being about gaming and they don't know that I do and I like say something about it they'll like give me this look, kinda like what? really? like a surprised look.
I'm a guy, but sometimes I play female characters in MMORPGs because why-not (heck, I'd say about half my MMO characters are female). Very rarely I'll encounter a dude that starts to hit on my characters (of course I inform them I'm not a woman via a private message to end that) and I find that hilarious.
However, this one time I encountered some kid in WoW that took offense to me combining "hand of freedom" with "rocket boots" in a single bind (makes sense to me since it allows me to escape snares and get to a better position quickly with just one button press) and said "you must be a woman IRL to do something so nooby". I of course placed the ***** on ignore since I didn't need to deal with that stupidity; I just wish it were possible to reach through the internet to knock morons on the side of the head and say, "you sir are a discredit to the male sex!"

It's not necessarily assumption, nor a bad thing. Would you rather be addressed as 'Sir', or 'It'? The way I've always known it is that, if you do not know whether the person is male or female, it is more proper to address them or refer to them in the masculine. Theoretically, One could ask, but on the internet...not always the best idea. Sometimes it gives the wrong idea.
Frankly, I couldn't care less whether you were a man or a woman on a game. What I care about is your attitude on the game. A 7-year-old brat of a boy is just as annoying as a bratty girl spamming the chat bar with whiny messages. A woman who doesn't go trolling people and exploding voice chat, no different than a man who doesn't try to get himself kicked from the game.

Would you rather read a story of knights and dragons, or be in one?
I'm glad people support my dragon raising. Could I ask for assistance with this one now?
Check out my dragon scroll(http://dragcave.net/user/Heric) if you want to see the dragons I have. I may get more dragons later.
Gamers assuming other people only are guys has got to just be a probability thing... I mean, surely it is still the statistical likelihood? And if not, the precedent is still there. While I hate gender discrimination as much as (probably more) than the next guy (or gal), this confusion is just residual - a force of habit, nothing malicious or even intended. It just takes time for people to adjust to environments changing.
@Heric See like, I never use sir or ma'am or anything to address people online. I've never been in a social situation where I've actually HAD to use it >.> If i don't know someones gender I try and use "they" because its a gender-neutral pronoun. But yeah, its not the worst thing that people do by far, so its not THAT huge of a deal. its more of a personal pet peeve for me (i personally hate how the word "sir" is used online by people >.>)
But yeah, maturity means more to me then anything too. That's why the only server I really play on tends to have more mature people who aren't complete morons. though we still get them occasionally
It really is...
This is just speaking from my perspective as a man of course.
I understand, some men are more open-minded than others
Exactly.

Obviously.
don't expect me to be on much.

Manly? Unless something changed since I was a kid I think you're using the wrong word. Sports and cars are considered manly, games are dorky.
