They've already been around for one year? Wow, the time just flies by, huh?
And yea, I've taken a look at one or two of them before. The dinosaur RPs seem to have taken lots of inspiration from LaaM... which is not really a good thing you want to do.
Ah yes, sorry about that. I guess Pokémon RPs have been such a trend around here that I figured it needed its own group. Fixed it.
Alright, if you wouldn't mind me sauntering into this little discussion. Or pick-me-up, or whatever. Is this even still happening? Or did Rainbow_Girl make an exit? Ugh, either way I'm gonna toss my two cents in, cuz ur poor. Ms. Rainbow, please allow me to ask you something.
How much have you explored fiction? It is vast and insuperable, and yet I find your views on it a tad one-dimensional. First of all, to say not everybody has the ability to write original, decent-quality story-lines is utter garbage.
The fact is, I used to think something similar. That some people have a writing spark, and I am not amongst them. But then, I began expanding. I read dozens, if not hundreds of books. Fan fiction was my sustenance, and I was obese from binging. And I learned something valuable about ideas.
Nothing is original. I know I'm not the first to state that, but allow me to elaborate. I had just finished reading some good old Bleach FF, when I thought 'Wow, this is really good! Maybe I can be this good if I borrow some ideas!'. So I took some of the core elements and toyed with them a bit. Can you guess what came next?
It grew. It started a doppelgänger, and blossomed into a totally different premise. And so, through experimentation, I have pinned the needle on how to create a good RP/FF/Story. So firstly, find something you really enjoy. An anime, book series, TV Show, movie, doesn't matter.
Then, you just think. Jot down ideas, and eventually they'll gather in your subconscious into a legible story. You can write that down, and nobody can see the bits and pieces you borrowed from elsewhere. As my extremely poor alcoholic womanizer of an uncle always said; 'Fake it 'till you make it.'.
And now, coming up with ideas is something I can do on my own. The recipe for a great story is just two teaspoons of imagination, a cup of detail, a handful of grammar, and a pinch of originality. If that made any sense at all, I don't know. Or care, for that matter.
Just try it. Or don't, really it's your choice. I find this entire post is just me trying to exorcise my own boredom because the only RP I'm indulging in hasn't been active for nearly a whole day. I know, #FirstWorldProblems.
P.S: Whatever you crackheads are cooking up, I'm interested. As long as you sate my addiction to Sci-Fi, I'm yours'.
Semantics. And also, how much emphasis is on the "detective" part of that? I mean, I'm totally down with that, but can I toss some casual science in there? You know, something to connect steampunk to "possible", i.e give me an excuse to put my recently learned sciency (totally a word) skills to good use?
Plus, I figured it wouldn't be solely steampunk. I mean, if it's a world focused on steam-power, eventually they'd dabble in nuclear energy as well? I assume they wouldn't be so single-mindedly (again, totally a word) inclined towards steam-engines, right? Or am I wrong?
As for focusing on other forms of power, I doubt it'd be likely to be included in the RP. We already have a special sort of resource planned, and most people already fear that it might replace steam power. At the moment, the world is too busy involved in these two sources of energy, and it's either working too effectively to consider a switch, or anyone who tries to conduct research on other means of power will get shut down by others interested in keeping steam power(or those researching simply fail due to nothing coming out of their work).
And yes, the investigation part of the RP will definitely be quite visible in the RP, which is good to hear.
Either ways, I'd just like to confirm that you'd be interested in joining the PM discussion before adding you Mad. Wouldn't like to do it accidentally and bring you unwanted messages or anything.
Nice for you to do a follow up, and you're right. My hypothesis was that the more creative the RP, the more likely it was to be made by a good writer. That and if its an RP with a good idea but poorly executed, I could then try and help it grow into something good.
I do herald the end of the High School RPs superpowered or sans, I'm aware there is a sizable group of high-schoolers on the forums but come on guys, think outside the box.
Well, it's certainly true. Creative RPs most often come from more experienced writers, and thus, a good writer.
It does look like high school RPs are actually at death's door though. At least here anyways. I guess the trend is over. And in all honesty, I think all of us here already have enough of 'high school' in our lives.
I think High School RPs are/were popular because they are something familiar and that makes them easy to grasp as a concept. People feel that they can lead a more dramatized life than the mundane one that regular HighSchool offers which happens to be far from what we often see portrayed in media.
The Idea of playing a role that is atypical of themselves also occasionally sparks some people's mind but i find the majority sink into the "is shy but warms up once you get to know them" position because it is easy to understand and allows you to slowly get a feel for where you want your [interesting] character to be at.
Magical High Schools are a little different in that they provide a solid gateway into a realm of fantasy where the wondrous and mysterious can happen, all within a familiar setting.
It really depends on the individual, age being a large factor aswell. Four years ago the prospect of a magical Highschool sounded fantastic to me (at the time I was watching vampire knight and I accidentally stumbled into the RP section of these forums and found a RP obviously inspired by the show) But now it is difficult because it has been done again and again and just lost some of its magic.
I sort of want to write up some stuff on how I work towards making interesting characters in the hopes that it will at least give one person some ideas. But I'll save that for another time.
I'm currently interested in a Sci-Fi RP, something heavy on resource management and ship modification but low on politics. If anyone wants to work on that with me I would be quite happy, considering I am already running a few intense RPs at the moment, I don't think I could singlehandedly moderate a third. Something a bit FTL/Starbound vibe.
I also have an idea for a Digital World RP that Krazaz isn't going to like.
Well there is one way to make a high school RP interesting. Have someone come in as a gunman. Because that's topical...
Depending on how that Sci-Fi RP goes, I might join. It would be the only RP I enter other than my bar. I do enjoy FTL and Starbound, so I might help a bit. Even if just helping to flesh out initial structure and backstory. May or may not actively participate...

Well, the sci-fi RP certainly sounds interesting, I'll definitely take a look at it when it comes out.
I don't know if I'd be much help in terms of assisting on it though. Either ways, still looking forward to it.
Glad we're doing the steampunk themed RP. Bat, might I ask for your permission to break slip in the PM? Also, the space resource management focused roleplay sounds like a pretty rock solid idea, but if I get myself involved in the Steampunk roleplay whilst also maintaining Hot Zone, I will have a really tough time delivering IC content there frequently.
Unless we go with the PoW approach for that one, which basically was slowpoking posts at a rate of one or two IC posts per month per player. Which could totally be a thing if we are aiming for a long term experience which does not focus around first person interaction with the rest of the participating players. It also gives a room of opportunity for managing people who remain inactive; it could be acted out as if their colonies are on a haze and therefore defenseless against enemy attacks, rendering them prone to damage and plundering.
So yeah, I would totally dig that one if we go for the approach of slow pace.
I'm suddenly very intrigued by the idea of the sci-fi RP. Very unlike what I've seen on the forums so far(according to my memory anyways).
You've been added into the PM discussion Mafia(permission to break in granted). Have fun.
If you ask me, that guy's got a pretty bad mentality against life at the moment. Firstly he's hypocritical, secondly he believes he doesn't need help, and thirdly he wants to dismiss everyone he sees and believes himself to be better than others.
Well, that's a typical day of 2015. Who wants to talk about other (RP) topics?
If you're talking about me, I'm female.
Yep, I'm back. I see we've migrated to a sci-fi RP. Can I be a part of it? *big innocent eyes*

Whatever I just said, I didn't mean any offense. Unless we're fighting, in which case I probably did.
If I said something was a joke when it didn't seem like one, I'm making an excuse to avoid an argument I know is coming. Instead of telling me how not funny I am and how it didn't seem like a joke at all, just go along with it. Because flame wars suck and nobody wants to be a part of one.

I hold nothing against you, only the way you act. Either female or male, you're still picking at old wounds.
If you think this place is bad, you go to Youtube itself/4chan and declare your intentions. Otherwise please don't act like you did a few days ago, let alone hold grudges. Stop it.
Fine. I see I can't join. I hope you have a great time.
I don't want to hold a grudge, but it seems like everyone else is. So why am I not allowed to?

This is kind of my point. Nobody said you couldn't join, you've made that up. You're projecting; putting your feelings onto us to make us antagonists.
Hush. Stop it. Calm down. If you want to stay just stop going 'Boohoo, you mean.' Generally speaking, people don't want you around when you tell them they're horrible people.
