White sighed, "You know," he said, face still into his book, "They could be testing us to see how long it takes for nuclear war to break out. It would only take a few days." he closed his book and looked up, "Hopefully not, I'm getting a bit hungry also."
White decided to start a conversation himself, "So," he said, "where is everybody from? I'm from the lands of Canada, fascinating place. Very nice in the winter."
The bellowing sound of shoes hitting the carpeted corridor with great force is heard echoing throughout the auditorium, the squeak of a shoulder pad quickly joins the choir before a figure appeared within the doorway. With a swift motion the man’s large golden-coloured sword slid towards the floor, standing upright in an indent it had just created. “Hmm.” His eyes darted around the room, his head moving once left and once right. “58, two of you are missing.” The man said, loud enough for those who were not talking to one another to hear.
He took a few more strides, approaching the raised concrete rectangle and stepped up onto it, walking further towards the desk at the far end, leaving his sword in front of the doorway. “Okay then.” The man approached the leather-bound paper stack on the table, tilting his neck and using his thumb and index to flick through the papers before nodding satisfactorily.
“Okay!” The man spun around, putting his hands together and facing the students sitting in the seats facing him. “Wonderful, I guess i should begin.” His eyes darted around the room once more, taking note of what he had to work with and more specifically the weapons placed beside students. “Excellent, anyways, my name is Kallistratos Shademail, you can all just call me Kallistratos or Stratos for short if you want.”
Stratos pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, reading it briefly and then put it away, facing the crowd once more. “I am the teacher of bladed skill mastery and Hunter Equipment 101, both of which are entirely necessary to progress to “D Rank”, i’m sure you will all enjoy your time in my classes.” The man tilted his head giving somewhat of a cold death stare before straightening his neck again. “I will also be your teacher for this first basic orientation lesson, so yeah…”
Kalistratos nodded and there was a brief pause before he continued. “Bladed skill mastery is not only for those who use bladed weapons, it will also teach you many methods of defeating specific demon entities, as well as explain various bladed traps used in the field, Hunter Equipment 101 is exactly what it sounds like, you will be learning all the basic equipment used in the field which will also tie into ritual classes.” He nodded once more. “You will be meeting your ritual teacher after the first break.”
Stratos turned towards the doorway where his sword still stood, then turned back to face the body of students sitting in the seats encircling him. “If anyone has any questions yet, now’s the time to speak up, then we have some formal requirements that have to go underway.” Stratos clasped his hands together expectantly, staring at the students but also giving one last quick glance towards the doorway as if he was expecting someone.
Kallistratos began going around the room, answering questions of those with their hands raised, the first question was regarding class times, It was explained that timetables will be pinned to each of the classroom doors, and that the majority of E Ranked hunter classrooms were in classes 1A-1F, 1F was only really used for obscure ritual classes that no one really ever took.
The second question was "What is Kallistratos' rules regarding phones in class." To which he responded "use your phone if you must, but if it interrupts me..." A knife which appeared from seemingly nowhere flew through the air, pinning itself to the stone wall behind the student's right ear. "Well, you don't want to interrupt me." The action was surprising as Kallistratos' hands had seemingly stayed clasped together for the entire time.
White was immediately drawn to the man. He seemed like he knew whet the was doing, he was confident, and he had to resist the urge to say "Sir yes sir!" to him. Still, his eyes seemed to pierce him from the outside in, then back out again. He put the book under his seat.
He started to wonder about the classes. Bladed skill mastery sounded interesting. He wondered if his knife would be sufficient. Hunting equipment 101... he still had to figure out what that meant. Almost instantly, his hand shot up and asked, "Sir, pardon me for asking, but what will we be doing today?"
Aiden kept drawing, practically ignoring the presence of their quite scary teacher. On his paper, there was a roughly drawn man with a claymore and a dragon screeching at him. It still looked a little stale since Aiden still hadn't shaded it. He kept at it as a kid from behind asked if they could use phones in class. He lifted his head and looked back. Really...? Phones? Why would you need to use phones in class? Right as he was about to turn, he noticed a small whizzing sound above him. He looked back again, seeing that the student was pinned to the wall. He quickly faced the teacher and watched him with horror. Good thing I don't use my phone much...

Cas shook the proffered hand, and was about to respond to the offer of food, when the instructor had finally arrived. The commanding aura he was quite familiar with being pressure enough, his hand froze momentarily in a tight grip around Chayse's for half a second, after which he calmed himself and visibly relaxed, the tension leaving his shoulders. He muttered a quick 'sorry' to Chayse and leaned back, attention fully on the man.
As she watched his stride down the path, she remarked his stiff, calculated gait, and made note of his observational prowess, proven in quickly counting the students with a single sweep of his eyes. As she listened, she began weighing the pros and cons of being serious in the Blade Mastery class, looking down on her palm. In a light whisper, she commanded, "Scorpion." A small blade emerged, but she quickly shook it off, once more paying attention to the man.
As he explained the contents of Hunter Equipment 101, Cas tilted a head in confusion. 'There are standard equipment? , he thought, considering the fact that the hunters didn't seem to have any such thing as uniforms, and even from this crowd of new people, each had their own equipment already. However, he shrugged this thought off, justifying that there are still such things as silver bullets, or silver weaponry in general, still in employ.
As the questions began, Casey waited until the first few were done, thinking what else could possibly be asked, but tsill slightly apprehensive due to the skillful knife throw. A few moments later, a lightbulb went off in her head, and she blushed a little but quickly hid it under her hood. After a few deep breaths, she calmed herself, and took the courage to raise her hand. "Sir, what of the dorm assignments? Are you people going to be the ones to do them, or are we to find a roommate and choose our own rooms? All I've been informed of is that dorms are divided...by gender..."
Adam had been daydreaming when the teacher walked in. About time, I was starting to think he forgot, he thought. He glanced at the teacher and suddenly felt very intimidated. In a slight panic he organised his notebook, pen and lantern on the desk and sat up straight.
He heard something about bladed skill mastery and hunter equipment 101, Bladed skill mastery seems like something rather useful to learn and hunter equipment 101 sounds compulsory so I think I will take both. He heard various questions being asked and started to listen intently. I don't want to miss anything.
As Mark watched Kallistratos in a bit of awe a thought came to mind. Kallistratos seemed a bit odd especially when he threw a knife next to a student's head for asking a bit of a childish question, though Mark believed it was somewhat appropriate when some of them are still children, or at least they looked like children. He began to think about the classes, blade mastery and hunter equipment? I'm sure new techniques used in combat would be useful but what about the hunter equipment? Perhaps we will receive equipment for battle against the demons. Mark attempted to think of a question to ask as someone from his left had asked about the dorms. Mark continued to focus on Kallistratos as he thought and began to fidget with his hands as he normally did while thinking.
Chayse
He whispered back a quick 'It's okay.' towards Casey, smirking a bit back towards her as he shook his arm a bit, wondering whether he would get through the entire day without his hand being destroyed in the process. After getting through that slight jolt, he turned back to being bored again, resting with his head leaning on the palm of one of his hands. He had noticed that the teacher's sword was quite big, but then again, it was nothing compared to the other girl's large weapon. Beo sat next to him in a chair as well, not sure whether wolves were allowed to get their own desks.
When the teacher had actually tossed the knife, Chayse was quite amazed and impressed at the skill and accuracy of his throw, being a bit caught off when he first tossed it, but then was then immediately interested in what the teacher could do. He tried to rest and lean on the chair, but then he had remembered that he still had his backpack on his shoulders.
The Blades Of Arcturus were on his back, both of which were held on there tightly by some straps. He took off his backpack and set it beside his chair, the war-axes now capable of being seen. Sheesh, finally I was able to get that thing off. Chayse himself wanted to ask a few questions, yet it seemed as if people were already doing the work for him. Casey had already rose up her hand to ask a question about dorms, which was something that caught his attention. How would the dorm assignments even work?
Kalistratos Shademail
Stratos turned to the student asking about the details of orientation. "Like i said, we have some formal requirements, ie a quick examination on your knowledge first, then we will really get into the orientation procedures, I will give a quick explanation of classes to those who do not know..." The hunter's voice trailed off for a second. "Really it is better if you just sit back and let the orientation stuffs happen, I will only take you for around an hour, then you will have a break, then it will be someone else standing here." Stratos' eye twitched before he nodded to himself, agreeing with how he had explained the situation.
The next question Kallistratos addressed came from some weird ambiguously gendered creature. "... is that dorms are divided...by gender..." Yes, the dorms are separated into male and female dorms, you are all free to choose who you bunk with and uh..." Kallistratos stopped to scratch his head, obviously trying not to look directly at the student who had asked the question. "Those who do not fall under the uh.. normal.. gender divisions are free to choose which dorm they will associate themselves with." Kallistratos looked back at the weird creature boy-girl thing and nodded.
Pivoting on one foot, the teacher moved over to the desk, picking up the bound papers. "Here is just a quick test to assess your student knowledge, try to answer every question to the best of your ability, skip the ones you don't know." Kallistratos began passing piles of papers to each of the rows of seats, expecting students to slide the extra copies along the row. "Just write your name on the line on the front page." He held up a spare copy, pointing towards the apparent line. The hunter then began throwing grey lead pencils around the room, throwing them to students in the higher rows, rather lightly.
Mythril Sunbound
Mythril took one of the papers, it was really two papers stapled together, as she put it down on the desk infront of her a pencil landed precisely on top of the paper, she jumped and looked up to see Mr. Stratos throwing the pencils, she was half surprised that he wasn't throwing them like knives, planting them in the wall behind her, but considered that the distinct lack of small holes in the walls and the skill of this teacher meant he had probably done this before. Mythril looked down at the page, writing her name quickly in some nice curvy letters, but approaching the actual questions she noticed something wrong, none of the questions had anything to do with hunting, some of them were not even written in a comprehensible language.
"What is the distance to the underworld and back four and a half times when measured in souls", "How can a shadow replication ritual be used to safely parallel park" Mythril tapped her pencil on the paper, the first question was "How many kittens do you have as pets." Mythril decided to skip to the second page for a minute, but it was worse. Entirely multiple choice but none of the answers were logical in any sense. Question 1: [How does one store their 13-pentagram demonblooded shield, A- The Louvre, B- Only the ash of your enemy, C- The blood of a loved one, D- Shoe polish, E- All of the above.]
She looked towards the teacher, who was busy rolling a pencil back and forth across the desk. She looked around to see if anyone else was struggling with the insane questions, but instead she caught a glimpse of a dog with paper and a pencil in front of it and immediately started giggling. The sound of air being cut was heard. Mythril slowly turned her head to see a knife sticking out of the wall. The echoing voice of Stratos could be heard throughout the classroom. "No cheating, no looking at other student's papers, no talking. 20 minutes remain." Mythril looked over at the teacher, who was still looking at the pencil. -Odd...-

Cas sighed in relief, perfectly glad that there was no such thing as a genderless tentacle demon dorm, which would be weird and very cost inefficient. As the teacher droned on, tests were handed out, which Cas accepted eagerly with mild curiosity. After all, shouldn't the entrance exams be taken before the orientation? Shrugging, he looked around for a pencil, blinking twice when one landed perfectly in two bounces on top of his paper. He muttered a short 'wow', sparing a glance at the teacher who was tossing pencils around with practiced ease.
As she followed the instructions, dutifully writing Casey Von Weißer on the paper, she skimmed over the questions, and almost, almost, facepalmed. However, she decided to humor the test, writing down 'three kittens' to the first question. Hoping for a more serious test, she was soon disappointed, as it only escalated from there. 'How do you use demon binding magic to form a bobsled team during winter hunts', 'If a demon consists mostly of mist, will it blend?', 'How do you perform a chestburst in the off-chance a demon swallows you whole?' Flipping the page, she found the multiple choice questions, which she thought would be easier. ['Can this question be answered?', A -Yes, B- No, C-Maybe, D-Almost Surely, E-None of the Above]
In the end, Cas decided, Screw Logic, this isn't even a test! Answering with not quite reckless abandon, he chose the safest answers in the multiple choice page and simply answered truthfully to the essay-type questions. Although there were a fair few bits that he had trouble answering at all, he pretty much breezed through the test and put down the pencil in resignation. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, so better do it anyway lest you damn yourself even more. Damnation isn't that bad anyway, or so his father would tell him. It only means you have to fight harder to get back, is what it entails.

As the teacher walks into the classroom, Rokudo instantly notice the golden sword present alongside the teacher "........hmm..another one eh? Interesting.." He took his sight off the girl's large sword and change his target since he already memorized it's unquie design. Rokudo pay attention to what the teacher have to say but his eyes are still fixed on the golden sword, analyzing it's design carefully "Both of these shall be kept nicely in my collection.. Hehe.." Rokudo thought to himself and smile slightly while the teacher keep on talking and starts answering students question "but man.. too bad I can't get my hand on the real one... But meh.... I should eventually find those real unquie design sword for myself soon.. or maybe someday.." Rokudo continue on his thought as he keeps analyzing the details he want, he put his left elbow on the table, tilting his head and land his cheek onto his palm while letting out a small sigh.
Once the teacher finish answering the students question, he hand out a pile of papers to the one student then told them to distribute it along to other student. After the paper reach Rokudo, he took a quick look at the paper then suddenly a pencil flew out of somewhere and land in front of him. He instantly look up and try to trace on where the pencil came from then saw the teacher throwing the same type of pencil at other students as well "...okay...". He lift his right hand and hold on to the paper looking down onto the questions present on the paper, he swiftly read through all of questions and put down the paper slowly while a slight grin can be seen on his face, "...so.. am I going to failed my class on my first day... Damn... I totally have no clue on these questions.."
Aiden stared at the paper in front of him and the pencil behind him. "He... really didn't move..."
He pulled the pencil out and read the questions. How many cats...?
He kept skimming through the questions. 1. e4e52. f4exf43. Bc4Qh44. Kf1b55. Bxb5Nf66. Nf3Qh67. d3Nh58. Nh4Qg59. Nf5c610. g4Nf611. Rg1cxb512. h4Qg613. h5Qg5
White moves next. How does one use a summoning ritual to defeat black without adding new pieces to the board? Express in your own words.
He tapped his pencil. S-summoning..? Oh, screw it... Summon bishop to A5 and queen to E5...
Chayse
When he got the paper, he wanted to already yawn, as doing tests wasn't exactly the most exciting thing to do. But he decided to just do it and get it over with. I don't think I can say a 'no' towards this teacher. But man that knife throw was awesome! He smiled to himself for a while just thinking about how accurate and close that kid's ear was about to get skewered when he got thrown a pencil, and so did Beo. Chayse cracked his knuckles and wrote down his name on the papers. He then looked at the first question, and then his smiled faded away as he felt as if he wanted to puke.
He got his serious and determined face on, hoping to at least answer some of these questions. Chayse just passed through the questions he didn't know... which was practically the entire of page one. He looked at the second page, finding some questions about weapons, in which he himself was having a hard time on, which was somewhat surprising as he always found himself as the weapon expert from the large amount of books he read.
'Diagram 7 shows a six-sided thorny demon eye longsword imbued with CLASS K-29 magic of a Hydra-toad. What is the year and exact time of which this weapon was discovered?'
Um... 7023 B.C. at 5 in the afternoon? Urgh... these questions don't even make sense... hmm...
Chayse had thought of an idea. Maybe he could copy off someone? He took a short and quick glance at Beo beside him, the wolf struggling to grab the pencil with his mouth and simply chewing on it.
Well that's a dead end idea.
He thought to himself quietly, simply putting his hand on his chin in a thinking position. The man simply stared at the question, getting another idea as he picked the paper up and lifting it up so that light from the chandelier stuck on the ceiling would be able to pass through the paper. Chayse was hoping to find some sort of secret code of some sort that revealed itself when it passed through the light... maybe that was the big deal of the test? To the rest of the people in the class, he would probably look as if he was playing with the paper. Chayse closed one of his eyes while the other one concentrated on the paper, hoping to find something.
Come on... where are you code... this has got to be a joke...
White was a bit overwhelmed by the paper. He only knew a few things, but things like "When and where and by whom was the class F-24 Cyber Demon found?" were a bit tricky. He decided to skip it. Next one was exactly confusing. Skipped. Next he found from his parents notebook. Nailed it. He zipped through it, using that process.
When he was done, he looked at his paper. Most of it was pretty much blank. He shrugged. Oh well. He had a lot to learn. He looked around the class and was relieved to see that most of the students were as confused as he was. At least he wasn't the only one. He quietly dove back into The Golden Compass, even thought he knew what would happen next. He's read the book for his whole life, but it never ceased to get boring.
The breeze of morning air and warmth of the sun had been warning her for a while now, but she had payed them no heed. Maple suddenly jolted up, realizing it was already daytime, and way past the scheduled time. Having a plant body, she doesn't exactly need sleep in the usual meaning of the word, but she does doze off often. But it was her apartment window that had betrayed her. The sky was blocked by tall buildings, so it wasn't until late morning that sunshine actually came into her room.
Her eyes windened at the sight of the clock, and her heart skipped a beat. It marked 11:45 am.
-"E-Eleven am.?! I should've been in school hours ago!"
Panicking, she ran through her cheap motel room, trying to figure out what to do. The first day of school isn't the best possible day to be 4 hours late, but skipping it was probably worse yet. Determined, she changed her leafy cover into something resemling a generic school uniform, as the school didn't have a particular one. With no grassy earth to lay her routes on, eating was important to get her nutrients.
Preparing a proper breakfast would take too long, however, so she grabbed a single slice of bread and stuffed it in her mouth. "This would be enough until lunchbreak" she thought. As she left the room, she started running to save as much time as possible. She got to the school in no time, even before finishing her slice of bread. Once in the hallway, many classroom doors loomed around her. She had no idea where to go, but her time ran short, so she took a guess.
Barging into the classroom, with a bit of toast still poking out of her mouth, she looked around. It was a big classroom, with dozens of students. She didn't know for sure if this one was actually her classroom, but it mattered not. Finishing her bread in a hurry, she looked at the proffesor, sitting on his desk, and casually yelled out: "Good Morning!"
White looked at the new girl. She seemed quite optimistic, even though she was late. He wondered how the teacher would react to her. From his book, he said a polite, "Good morning," back, which was not as loud as the girl's 'Good Morning' , before saying, "Actually, is it morning or afternoon? I don't know what time it is."
He wondered why she was so late. Traffic? It could be. Slept in? Could be, but who sleeps in until lunch? What about breakfast? If she slept in, she would've gotten a lot of sleep. Maybe she got lost. That seemed like the most logical answer. It's easy to get lost, and most people get lost all the time. He settled down with that explanation.
Aiden filled in the answer for the last question and put his pencil down. Just as the pencil hit the desk, he heard a feminine voice yell. "Good morning!"
He stared at her with blank eyes, not daring to say anything. Another student...? He looked back down at his paper and re-read his answers. Well... These all seem to make sense, I guess... It's a little indirect but if I'm right, these were really made as jokes. In the multiple-choice questions, there are two pairs and one that is the 'odd one out'. The usual is yes-no, definite answers and two answers that suggest the possibility of both options. The fifth choice is usually 'all of the above' or 'none of the above'. With some exceptions, of course... 'The blood of your loved one' matches up with 'the ashes of your enemies' but the Louvre doesn't match up with 'All of the above' or 'shoe polish'... But you actually would be able to put a shield in the Louvre so I'm guessing that it was the answer. Or I'm really over-thinking this and it's actually a stupid prank...
He heaved a sigh and sat back.

Casey was about to respond, when suddenly a cheeky girl burst through the doors and greeted us good morning. Several knives whizzed by and embedded themselves in the wall in her vicinity, and Casey couldn't help but laugh and shout back, "It's no longer morning!" A knife also whizzed by her, striking two inches from her test paper. She glared at the instructor before waving the girl over, scooting over to make space between her and Mythril. Turning to Alex, she sighed and apologized, "Sorry, 'Lex, guess I found my roommate. I do believe the female dorms would be less rowdy."
Being a bit in the back meant not many people were behind you, Cas got up and carried a chair over the desk, and patted it down smiling happily at the flowery girl. "Come on then, you late-comer. Get over here before the teacher gets even more infuriated," she glanced sideways towards the man, "Or if he could even get infuriated." She turned her attention back to her test, where she began scribbling an answer, showing a diagram of how a triple layered hex-inhibitor could stop a tiny demon that actually contains a world eater within it, one that cares far too much about various confectionery.

Though just how far would you fall for a dream?
I was worried that I was late but this teacher sure is taking his time...

Kallistratos stopped to scratch his head, obviously trying not to look directly at the student who had asked the question.
-Odd...-
As she followed the instructions, dutifully writing Casey Von Weißer on the paper, she skimmed over the questions, and almost, almost, facepalmed.

He pulled the pencil out and read the questions. How many cats...?
He kept skimming through the questions.
1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Bc4 Qh4 4. Kf1 b5 5. Bxb5 Nf6 6. Nf3 Qh67. d3 Nh5 8. Nh4 Qg5 9. Nf5 c6 10. g4 Nf6 11. Rg1 cxb5 12. h4Qg6 13. h5 Qg5
White moves next. How does one use a summoning ritual to defeat black without adding new pieces to the board? Express in your own words.
He tapped his pencil. S-summoning..? Oh, screw it... Summon bishop to A5 and queen to E5...
