This is the official role play thread for the Azura setting. I based it on an old Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting I played in. So without further ado, lets get this thread rolling!
The World:
The world is savage and ruthless. After a disastrous event eons ago that laid the old world of the Ancients to waste, civilization's ancestors started to rebuild society from the ground up. Now, countless generations later, the world is once again a prosperous and, most importantly, life supporting place. Though the disaster eons ago brought much more than just ruin to the world. Through some unknown process, it imbued the crust of the planet with a highly radioactive element known as Astralite. This element, through the use of a strange type of radiation known as Astral radiation causes instant mutation and more often than not, death. This substance caused the remaining Ancients to mutate rapidly into all the known species on the planet. After so many years of mutation, there is no way to tell what one of the Ancients originally looked like. Astralite also has a strange tenancy to react with and become more like the elements around it. Ex. A piece of Astralite surrounded by gold will become more and more like gold over time. After this crystal was discovered, people began to study the crystal for it's use in weapons. While the few Astralite blades were able to be created, the secret to smithing Astralite has been lost in time. After this age of curiosity, the dangers of Astralite proved too much for the world and the use of the crystal is feared by most sane people. The world is set in a medieval period of technology and culture. This means that the sword is the pinnacle of melee weapons and the bow became one of the strongest weapons imaginable. Medieval culture means that the land is ruled by monarchs, dictators, and oligarchs, democracy is not a very wide spread practice.
Your Quest:
In this world, there is a vast expanse of desert known as the Black Wastes, known for its black sand. The Wastes span on infinitely and there is no center, it only gets more dangerous and more chaotic as you venture further and further into the Wastes. But, the riches in the Wastes are boundless, the ruins of Ancient civilization lies everywhere and as you go further and further in, the greater riches there are to be had. At the border of the Black Wastes lies a town known as Haven. (In the words of Old Ben Kanobi, "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.") Haven is ruled by a ruthless dictator who is feared by all and loved by none. Every one of your characters have been exposed to Astralite at some point in their lives and have experienced mutations. You are treasure hunters, going on quests to find and retrieve the most valuable thing you can, pawning it, and coming back to do it all over again. But beware, in the Wastes lie the Raiders, a race of people who worship dark gods and ritualistically mutate themselves with Astralite. These Raiders are dangerous and are hated by society.
The Races:
In Azura there are many races based around the fantasy setting here is a list of the most common races:
Human: A warmongering race, humans are the most common race found on the planet. Elves: Elves are a race native to the southern regions of the planet, they are agile and are masters with the bow. Dwarves: Dwarves are a hardy race, native to the mountainous regions to the east, they are short and wide along with being very tough. Dark Elves: Much like elves, this race is attuned with the shadows and are one of the few intelligent inhabitants of the series of caves underground. Orc: This green skinned race are brutal fighters and are masters in melee combat. Halfling: This race of people are very similar to humans minus about an average of 2 feet in height. They are highly agile and dexterous. Half-Races: These are combinations between humans and Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs that create a whole new breed of people respectively they are called, Half-Elves, Half-Dwarves or Mul, and Half-Orcs. The Religion: In Azura, religion is very important to the people. In Azura, the gods are not silent and frequently watch over the affairs of mortals. The gods are: The Sun is worshipped as a symbol of the male persona, and is exemplified by warm colors. It tends towards good in its actions. It holds sway over the following domains:
Hope
Justice
Love
Sun (light)
The Moon is worshipped as the female incarnation, and is represented by cold colors. It tends towards chaos. It includes the domains of:
Arcana (magic)
Darkness
Fate (including mystery)
Moon
Sky worshippers consider Earth Worshippers their natural enemies. Evil sky worshippers should seek out and kill residents of the earth, such as Dark Elves, whenever possible. Earth
Worshippers of the Earth are Neutral as the nature which comes from it. Earth is a large contributor to everyday life of a normal person, making it the top worshipped patron out of them all. Earth worshippers are enemies to the Sky, being the natural opposite of them. The Earth controls the domains of:
Civilization (cities and hospitality, politics)
Creation (crafting, escpecially weapons and metals)
Death
Earth (stone)
Protection (shelter and toughness)
Strength
War (honorable combat)
Sea
Elves are prime worshippers of the Sea. It is said that the Elves were born when the Moon and Sea attempted to create a creature of their own. Elves have long left the sea, however, and have joined the relation of the Earth, Sky, and Sea, the nature in the world. The sea is revered by fishermen and sailors too. The Sea holds sway over:
Change
Freedom (including travel)
Knowledge (scholars)
Life (maternity, birth, development)
Love
Luck
Sea
Skill (strategy and power)
Trickery
The Sea is a natural enemy of the Desert. Desert
The desert is regarded by most as the enemy of all. It represents all that kills, destroys, and seeks to end what the other three created. Yet, without the patron Desert, the world would not be equal, and would still be missing the pieces necessary to make it a whole. Raiders revere the Desert. Some members of the common races worship the desert as their patron, focusing on desert’s balance with the others. The Desert is the domain of:
Civilization (trade and commerce)
Destruction (it does not like the creations of other creatures)
Justice (in it’s most basic, harsh, primal form)
Madness
Poison (including drugs)
Strife (destructive battle and chaos, evil)
Torment (including fire and blood)
Tyranny
Vengeance
The Desert considers all its enemies that are beneath it, although it hates the Sea, most of all. Void
A fifth aspect, Void, is truly Evil. It is the worship of the very matter of the universe as it was created. Dark, horrible things exist in those places, and only the most foolish seek knowledge there. However, all sentient beings acknowledge the Void as the primordial matter from which life, and existence, came from. Void holds sway over the following domains:
Creation (world building)
Destruction
Strife
Torment
Undeath
(Players are not allowed to worship Void due to the uproar it would cause in the game.)
Rules:
1. No Godmodding. If you are going to fight with a character, please role play it out.

Write your OOC chat in ((double parenthesis)). 7. Be nice. 8. Refrain from too many one liner posts, put some thought into your posts. 9. Have fun. I cannot emphasize this enough, if you are not having fun, you don't have to participate.
Something Name*: Perrin Stickthief Gender*: Male Mutations*: Heightened senses: His sense of hearing and smell are unmatched. Eye loss: He has no eyes in which to see. Enhanced reflexes: His reaction time is extremely low compared to other people. Scaly skin: He has a layer of thick scales covering his body, acting as a natural suit of armor. Claws: A set of large, retractable claws lie between his fingers. Astralite dependency: He needs to expose himself to Astralite constantly or risk sudden death, he is constantly mutating cosmetically and physically because of this. Stregnths*: He is a powerful fighter, having natural mutations to assist him in combat. He has extremely quick reflexes. Weaknesses*: He is blind, it is very easy to hit him from afar. He is also dependent on Astralite to survive so he is constantly being irradiated. Items/Equipment: Astralite shards, full cloak, Red mask with no eye holes Appearance (Picture or Description)*: He is very short and scrawny, his face is always completely covered by his red mask. His body is covered by his cloak. He hides his skin as it is scarred and scaly. On his hands are a set of vicious claws, capable of tearing flesh. Bio*: Perrin was born to a family of halflings in haven, they were simple merchants and they taught him how to read, write, and barter with people in order to sell wares. He lived a happy life, free from all cares in the world, that was, until his town was attacked by Raiders. These brutes snuck into Haven in the middle of the night and stole as many people as they could from the town. Most of these people were children and Perrin was one of those children. He was taken to the Raider campsite and that is where his life really took a turn for the worse. He was exposed to Astralite by the Raiders as a ritual and he became instantly mutated. His eyes were the first to go. After loosing his vision, the Raiders continued exposing him to Astralite in an attempt to make him one of them. After months of this ritualistic exposure, Perrin finally succumbed to the dark thoughts in his head and for 13 long years, he was truly insane. This insanity finally ended when his campsite was attacked by the Haven military. When the soldiers found him, they took pity on him, and tried to revive his senses. After about a year of reintegration into society, Perrin was once again exposed to Astralite, this gave him back his ability to see, just in a different way. He could now hear the world around him so well, that it was as good as seeing it. After this event, Perrin escaped his captivity and went to explore the world. He became a treasure hunter after another year when he heard that one of the "greatest treasures of the Ancients" was hidden in his old campsite. He needed to go back there, but first, he needed a team. Personality: Commanding, excitable, adventurous, Age: 25 Race*: Halfling Jek
Name*: Jek
Gender*: Male
Mutations*: Jek was born without any significant facial features. Only two small concave dips where his eyes would have been, an insignificant bump of flesh for his nose, and a blank patch of skin instead of a mouth. Instead, he sees the world as patches of light, which he claims is a gift from the Sun itself.
In addition, he was born with, and able to further develop, his rather small array of psionic abilities, which mainly include his signature skill of creating a psionic weapon, be it lance, axe, or sword, and using it through the use of his mind. (To further clarify, this means the weapon itself is made out of psionic energy, and that it is controlled by Jek’s mind, not held.) In order to speak, he projects his ’voice’ into the mind of the person or people he is addressing. To aid in his daily psionic practice, Jek can also be seen hovering several inches off the ground, in order to keep his mind and abilities honed. (Not combat related, and will not impact the RP at all, unless we need to cross some rugged terrain )
Stregnths*: A skilled psionic fighter, Jek is adept at keeping enemies at bay due to the range of his conjured weapons. One-on-one, Jek becomes one of the most feared duelists in the region, as his ‘God Sight’ is not inhibited by a multitude of different sources of light, allowing him to more easily focus on his target.
Weaknesses*: Although a fearful warrior at range, should an enemy get inside his defenses, Jek has trouble in hand-to-hand combat. His ‘God Sight’ is not suited to visualizing an enemy that is up close and personal, and as a result, his reflexes, both physical and mental, become slowed, due to his ‘Gift’ trying to compensate.
Additionally, multitudes of targets produce the same result, as Jek begins to see only swarms of disjoined light, constantly melding in and out of each other. This disorients him, and, once again, makes him more sluggish, and prone to attack.
Items/Equipment: Jek is clad in the typical steel armor of all Templar, trimmed with gold lettering which depict various psalms and praises to the Sun. His helmet encases his entire head, and is mostly featureless. Where the face would be, however, is a polished oval made of some glass-like metal, reflecting the land and people around him.
His only real ‘weapon’ is a massive, rectangular shield, the front depicting the Sun in all its glory, surrounded by more words of praise.
Appearance (Picture or Description)*: Despite his featureless face, Jek’s body remains relatively normal. A messy tuft of brown, feathery hair sits atop his head, constantly matted down by his helmet. His physique is toned and muscular due to years training at the Monastery, featureless save for the few scars Jek has managed to collect, whether through training or combat.
Bio*: Born to devout worshippers of the Sun, Jek was immediately seized by the Templar of the Sun upon reaching speaking age. Due to his ability to see things in ‘Sunlight,’ Jek was placed among the top trainees of the Monastery, in the hopes that he would mature to become the manifestation of the god they praised so dearly. But that was not so.
From the beginning, it was clear that Jek had no proficiency in weapons, or crafting, as instead he busied himself with learning the chants and psalms of the priests. This worried the Templar, who still hoped that Jek would lead them into battle, in order to fulfill his destiny. No god would sit and pray, they reasoned. A god would act, lead, and conquer.
Several attempts were made to guide Jek back to the path of the Warrior, but he would not have it. Despairing, the Templar decided to bring Jek to the Source. Shrouded in mystery and rumor, the Source lay at the heart of the Monastery, revered as a sign of the Sun. In truth, it was a sliver of Astralite, prone to causing mutations to any in its proximity. The Templar praised it as the ‘Gift-Giver,’ granting the touch of a god to any it deemed worthy.
Jek was brought to the Source, in the hopes that the uniting of the two would spark yet another message from the gods. Upon seeing the Astralite, however, Jek fell to the floor, clawing at his face. For the first time in his life, Jek could truly not see. Regardless of his convulsions, the Templar forced Jek to touch the Source. But before his skin could brush its surface, a wave of psionic force threw the Templar to the ground. Jek alone stood upright, hovering in the air, gazing at the men beneath his feet. With a single gesture that spoke of disgust and defiance, Jek drew the sword he had been given as a Templar, and shattered the Source.
Shouts of protest, cries of “Blasphemy!” rang through the air, and the scattered Templar moved to regain their wits and weapons. Before they could regroup and attack the heretic, they were cut down by spikes of pure energy, lances formed in parody of the weapons Jek had learned to admire and use. Declaring himself free of the shackles the Templar had placed on him, Jek condemned them for pretending such an evil thing such as the Source, a thing which gave no light, was the gift of the Sun. Leaving the Monastery, Jek vowed to find his own way, traveling in search of the true Sun, and his destiny.
Personality: Jek is quiet and reserved, partially due to having no mouth, and partially because he does not wish to discuss his dealings or emotions to anyone. To Jek, his journey is his own, to be undertaken by the devout and determined. As such, he prefers to be solitary, and is slow to trust anyone that approaches him offering him help, as the Templar did so long ago.
I need to know though, when I make this a real thread, do I just take down the poll and start it as an rp thread or do I make a whole new thread. This was created because I didn't just want to put Azura on the forums but if people like it, I need to know how to make it into a real thread.
Just a few questions here, if you can answer them:
-Will you have a list of available races?
-If scientific was advance enough to study Astralite, why is the World still stuck in the Medieval Period?
-Also, when you say 'Medieval,' is the World set up that way? (i.e. Serfs, Knights, Kings, etc.) or are you simply referring to the technology?
Other than that, it's a pretty interesting concept. Reminds me a bit of Borderlands, which is always good
And now a response to your questions:
Races will be based around the fourth edition setting of Dungeons and Dragons, I will be posting a list of accessible races and a brief description of what each of them are in regards to the world.
The people study Astralite in the regard of smiting Astralite. They are not studying nuclear technologies or anything of the sort. The reason that this never came to fruition was because of Astralite's tenancy to react to the stones and metals around it and become more like them, while still retaining it's radioactive nature. It is because science is stuck in the medieval era that studying Astralite became too dangerous. Most of the smiths who studied it died or became so connected to the dark gods that they became Raiders themselves.
When I say Medieval, I mean about 12th-13th century Arabic "medieval". This means that Physics and Chemistry are but a wink in the eyes of alchemists and, at least in the area the characters will be playing, tyrants rule what little land there is to rule.

((This is a really nice app, not too over powered, great bio, I love how you used the religion system to your advantage when making your character. So... I am going to say ACCEPTED. I will be starting role play when we get one or two more people.))
((I apologize, but I need you to read the rules again, edit your app, and then I will consider accepting you. It is a minor mistake, but I need to make sure that you are reading the rules thoroughly.))
((Perfect, I am going to say that this character is ACCEPTED but, don't make me regret it. I will exploit every weakness I can find throughout the story, so you must be ready.))
((Edit: I think we can begin now, let that one more person come soon.))
Story: Our story begins in the same way that many stories of this kind do... in a tavern. The tavern in question is named The Perrin Stickthief is sitting in the corner of said tavern waiting for a response to a note posted on the announcement boards yesterday. The letter read:
Calling All Adventurers
Are you in need of gold?
Do you want to explore the world?
Come to the Firestarter Tavern and ask for Perrin.
You won't regret it.
Perrin: While he waits for somebody to come in through that door and ask for him, he orders a drink. He sighs deeply and tilts his head towards his mug.
Zane steps into the tavern, the wood shifting beneath his weight, his hood covering his face, in a deep grumbling tone he approaches the barkeep and asks "*cough* looking for a man by the name of Perrin?..." The barkeep points to the far corner, his dual sword handles inching slightly above his shoulders, a quill at his side, and his bow slung under one arm he sits down next to the man in the corner. "My name is Zane, i am here looking for gold."
((Ok, you forgot to add me to op, but i forgive you lol))
((Gold is the correct form of currency in this universe.))
Perrin:
"Well Zane, you've come to the right place." Perrin looks up at Zane, revealing that his mask covers his eyes completely. "I am Perrin, and I need to ask you a few questions to make sure you are fit for my group. First of all, are you prepared to die out there in search of the ultimate treasure? Second of all, how is your fighting prowess? Third of all, how do you react when you hear that you will be picking up one or two mutations on this trip?"
Zane pulls his hood off of his head and onto his shoulders, revealing his long pointy elf ears, he looks at the man with a grin on his face "It won't happen, but sure i welcome death, my fighting prowess?" in a split second he unsheathes one of his swords throwing it across the room, inches from a mans mouth, it hits the fruit dead center, sticking it into the wall, juice drips from the fruit and the man who was about to eat the fruit looked over angry,"I would consider myself good, considering the amount of training I've received, I'm also good with a bow." he lifts up his four arms showing the man his already bizarre mutations "If it happens, you might want to watch out, if i touch it directly... otherwise, the more mutations the better." with his cocky attitude he sits back in his chair, awaiting a response.

Sitting in one of the many cramped corners of the tavern, Jek leaned back into the creaking chair, allowing his water to hit the patch of skin where his mouth might be. Instead, the liquid merely sat, trickling in rivulets down his featureless face, before it began to disappear, absorbed into his flesh. His thirst quenched, Jek rose from the old, wooden bench, replacing his helmet with habitual ease. Dropping a gold coin on the spotted, stained tabletop, he retrieved his enormous shield, before levitating away from the corner.
Despite the multitude of colored lights Jek perceived the bar-goers to be, they were poor substitute for the Sun itself. Longing to return and gaze at its luminosity, he made to leave the bar, stopped only by a familiar sight. Or rather, lack of sight. Where a halfling light would be, Jek could only see holes of darkness.
The Source...?
Deciding to move closer, Jek floated over to the source of the blindness, alighting near the halfling's table. As the creature was speaking with another light, this one an Elf, he would wait.

The Religion:
In Azura, religion is very important to the people. In Azura, the gods are not silent and frequently watch over the affairs of mortals. The gods are:
The Sun is worshipped as a symbol of the male persona, and is exemplified by warm colors. It tends towards good in its actions. It holds sway over the following domains:
Earth
Worshippers of the Earth are Neutral as the nature which comes from it. Earth is a large contributor to everyday life of a normal person, making it the top worshipped patron out of them all. Earth worshippers are enemies to the Sky, being the natural opposite of them.
The Earth controls the domains of:
Elves are prime worshippers of the Sea. It is said that the Elves were born when the Moon and Sea attempted to create a creature of their own. Elves have long left the sea, however, and have joined the relation of the Earth, Sky, and Sea, the nature in the world. The sea is revered by fishermen and sailors too.
The Sea holds sway over:

Scaly skin: He has a layer of thick scales covering his body, acting as a natural suit of armor.
Claws: A set of large, retractable claws lie between his fingers.

Stregnths*: He is a powerful fighter, having natural mutations to assist him in combat. He has extremely quick reflexes.
Weaknesses*: He is blind, it is very easy to hit him from afar. He is also dependent on Astralite to survive so he is constantly being irradiated.
Items/Equipment: Astralite shards, full cloak, Red mask with no eye holes
Appearance (Picture or Description)*: He is very short and scrawny, his face is always completely covered by his red mask.
Personality: Commanding, excitable, adventurous,
Age: 25
Race*: Halfling
Jek

Oh no, it's a link to an awesome flash game!
-Will you have a list of available races?
-If science was advance enough to study Astralite, why is the World still stuck in the Medieval Period?
I hope this helped clear up any confusion.
