But.. How are they now? I realize that much of it could be open for interpretation, but would you say they'd be doing well? Like economically and militarily, for example.
Well. Seeing as france just had a war and went to a stalemate.. Take that for what it is.
I mean, you have control over most of their history over half a century or so, there is a lot open to interpretation. They could be fairly powerful like Spain, or they could be somewhat chaotic like Britain.
EDIT: Alright, thanks.
You'd need to provide an apt explanation for the population growth. Was it a drop in sex education based on some religious thing in the country? Or did the Sweded decide they want a larger population so decided tax breaks were in order to promote population growth?
Even then though, I can't see the Swedish population doubling in fifty to sixty years. If considerations like that are considered then it's likely it'll grow. But I can't see it doubling in that time-span. Two-percent growth might be majorly excessive for Sweden (hell, I think most developed nations top off at 1% growth). With something like that, you'll have your population, but also massive economic strain brought about by supporting them.
My DeviantArt, so sexy
However i am going to rewrite history so that after WW1 the country industrialized even further and promoted living conditions far enough that people stopped moving to North America, saving some of the population. From there agriculture and industry promoted a far more modernized Sweden, home to ten million people (It has nine million today)
Note: This application may change slightly or even drastically before I start playing as France.

Backstory/Bio-
(( Summary of the first two paragraphs: Basically RL WW1, except it's France who manages to push back the Germans and not the US ( since they didn't join the war in PoW's universe ).
France entered the Great War shortly after Russia. When combat began in August 4th 1914 and the Germans invaded Belgium, France immediately mobilized it's army to aid in Belgium's defense. Despite this, Belgium was soon overrun and the French forces were forced to make a hasty retreat back into French soil. The Germans continued their push passed Belgium and into France that same year. The German assault was finally put to a halt just miles from Paris after a series of counterattacks by the allies. By December, the allies had stabilized and secured their borders on the west, successfully pushing the German's out of France. France was now fighting a defensive war, but with poor defenses and Germany's use of poison gas, the western front lines were once again broken, allowing the Germans to push back into France in 1916. The fighting continued for months and French casualties continued to rise. Counterattacks by the allies achieved nothing and it soon became apparent that the war would end in nothing but a bloody stalemate.
In 1917, the French launched another series of counterattacks that although costly, managed to push the Germans back and out of France. In 1918, the Germans launched another assault with the intention of breaking the French defensive line. The attacks seemed successful at first, but eventually the French managed to repel the German offensive and launch their own counterattack, which proved to be very successful, forcing the exhausted German army to retreat and resulting in the French retaking Belgium. By 1919, France was once again fighting a defensive war, but this time better prepared and managed to hold the line all the way to the end of the war in 1925.
France suffered nearly two million deaths during the war and nearly four million soldiers were wounded. With a quarter of the dead being under twenty-four years of age, the birthrate plummeted. France was also short of three million workers and the gap had to be filled with foreigners, whose mere presence created resentment among French laborers, and so borderline fascism made its first appearance. Fueled by hate for Germans, the fascist movement blamed the current state of France on the Germans and the French unemployment on foreigners. They armed themselves with the promise of stabilizing the country and bringing France to its former glory, and began attempts to seize control over France. They saw resistance from others political parties with less hateful and more.. friendly ideals, however, and the fascist movement in France came to a grinding halt before it could really start.
The Great War did bring some good in the form of large scale mass production, which allowed France's industrial economy to flourish and take off starting in the 1920s. France's economy began booming and by the 1950s France was considered the wealthiest country in Europe despite the fact that things weren't necessarily great, just better than in other war affected countries. This continued on into the 60s, when France began spending a considerable amount in military research, and by the end of the decade had plans to unveil their new military technology, which included the Dassault Mirage 2000 jet and the AMX-46 Leclerc battle tank ( US Abrams equivalent ). France hit a bump in 1970, when its government, influenced by certain individuals still holding on to fascist ideals steered France into war with Germany. The Franco-German War slowed down France's economic growth ( As well as losing the lead to Spain nearing the 70s ) and sparked old rivalries, leaving many citizens disgruntled at the current government.
Today France is a republic ruled by a government completely cleansed of fascism ( or so they say ) looking to continue growing economically and actively promoting the right to liberty and life. They are a country that greatly values freedom and equality and frown upon those who violate such rights. That's not to say France hasn't made questionable decisions in recent years, or that they no longer resent Germany, but they are currently not seeking to start another war.. that, however, may prove difficult to prevent.
It's really just Hug and Moose going to Europe. Hug'll probably get invaded by Spain and flee in terror to somewhere else anyway, if he's anything but a capitalist monarchy.
Heh, Brazil controls a lot of land and has a lot of forces, but we're still using Mirage IIIs.
1: Martin Abraham is not a french name. Sounds like an Amish preacher.
2: You can't half ass fascism, that's just conservatism and you end up being Spain. You are either facist or you are not. It's like if you said you were "kinda communist", you would be a welfare state and not really all that communist
3: Saying "France is the wealthiest nation in Europe" is **** poor roleplaying. You can say it is wealthy, but specifying yourself as wealthiest is saying everyone else can't be as wealthy as you, which is godmodding.
4: It isn't necessary to mention outright, but just remember that the CEL membership and the loss of your colonies is part of canon.
But I didn't " half ass " fascism. They're not fascist. There's just some fascist ideas still floating around in the heads of some people in power.
I didn't mean to say it was the wealthiest in a god moddy way, but it's a pretty wealthy country in real life and I didn't change a whole lot from how the country is in real life, except for making it less peaceful and adding the fascist stuff.
EDIT: I blame having made this really late at night. I'll get to looking up a name now. I just woke up.
EDIT: By the way, yes, the name is Amish.. lol.
EDIT2: And done. I actually searched for French names and although that new one may not seem like a French name it apparently is according to the site you linked to in the wiki.
Huh, I guess it technically can be. I guess it's your call then.
Anyway, is it any better now?
I think it's believable to say France was one of the wealthiest countries by the 50s since it didn't really have a lot of competition besides Spain ( Since everyone else either didn't have the means to compete or was completely destroyed by the war ). I guess I should switch it to say nowadays it's only ONE of the most wealthy countries, since I do see how Spain may have passed it.
And, the thing about the tank is.. personal dislike. Goddamn I hate the way the AMX-30 looks. I rather a downgraded AMX - 56 just for looks. That and the fact that Nova has Abrams ( which are also a little ahead of time ). I'm not an expert on tanks ( or any military vehicles ), but I don't think the AMX-56 is that much different from an Abrams..
