You wake up and you can't breath. All around you it is cold and dark, you're floating. Panic quickly grips you and you thrash about wildly. But your limbs are met with resistance and it feels like you are moving in slow motion. Just as your foot catches the bottom you realize you're underwater. You look up just as your lungs begin to ache, see the shimmering ray of sunlight above you. With what energy you have left you kick at the sandy bottom and jet upward. Your head breaks the surface of the water and immediately you suck in the salty air.
You tread water for several minutes, letting your throbbing chest recover. You observe the vast ocean before you. A million questions and concerns race through your mind, but one lingers in your mind: Where am I? You spin around and are relieved to see a bulge of beige, green and gray. An island. It is not too far and you swim for it, eager to feel earth beneath your feet, hungry for answers.
This is the dreamscape, and you are not alone.
First and foremost, this is a literate roleplay. You will not be accepted if you cannot grasp the basics of English grammar and spelling. And even just the basics will probably not be enough. I'm not going to be asking for novels here, but I want substance in your posts.
Also, don't feel like you need to censor yourself. I want this roleplay to be violent and gritty, but please do it in a tasteful manner. Feel free to use details, but don't get too graphic. Swearing is fine as long as it isn't extremely explicit. Consider this a PG-13 movie.
If you're sticking around long enough to read this far, then you probably have some roleplay experience and know the rudimentary rules: no godmodding, no puppeting others' characters without permission, et cetera, et cetera. You know the drill.
When making your characters, keep in mind that they are regular people. They went to sleep last night, and this morning they woke up in this strange place, around this mysterious island. Generally, I'm looking for late teens. No preteens please. And try to give them some depth. If they're going to be evil at least give them some reasonable motive.
Your character also gains some kind of ability in the dreamscape. Nothing big and grand like pyrokinesis. But perhaps a sudden knowledge of herbalism or sword-fighting.
Crafting exists. Everyone has the ability to craft stuff, but not all of you will have knowledge of how to do it. As the RPer and not the character, you should just know that it works like it does in the game. You need a grid and ingredients.
Mobs are real. Everything from chickens to creepers. Feel free to even add your own, but please don't get too crazy. Prefix mobs are definitely A-OK with me.
When it comes to the actual setting, imagine the Minecraft world, the landscapes, but instead of it being blocky, it's all realistic. When it comes to physics, like mining and woodchopping, it works as quick as it does in the game, but what you get isn't a neat block, rather it would be in chunks. Crafting basic things like tools doesn't require a crafting table, just the necessary parts and a way of putting them together. Anything more complicated will need the table though, which works a lot like alchemy.
For the most part, finding each other and surviving on the island will be the main goal in the beginning. Once things have settled down a bit I'll throw something new at us.
Okay if you've stayed with me this far then I take it you're interested.

This is a nightmare. I am lucid. I will wake up now. But even after the thoughts rang in her mind she still felt cold and weightless. Her chest began to ache. This was not a dream. Sadie's eyes shot open but could see nothing but a deep blue darkness. She opened her mouth to scream but nothing but a muffled gurgling and a barrage of bubbles escaped her lips. Underwater. She looked up, dark hair swirling in the water around her face, and saw a faint ring of light above her. She reacted instantly, the need for air driving her upward.
She hit the surface and gasped for breath, the tension in her lungs loosening as salty air filled them. This was not a dream. The pain in her chest stated that quite clearly. She spun around in the open water. She was in an ocean by the taste of it. The midday sung hung overhead. It warmed her, slightly. She kept scanning the horizon until finally her eyes registered it. The large mass of land not very far from her. It looked both ominous and welcoming at the same time. As she swam for it one thought raced through her head, Where am I?
Her bare toes brushed sandy bottom and she put her full weight on it, relishing in the feel of solid ground. Sand between her toes. Sadie found herself to be surprisingly at ease despite the situation. Then again, she had always been a beach child. She pulled herself onto shore exhausted and collapsed on the warm sand. She stared up at the cloudless sky wondering what to do next.
Username Stuntdude Character name Altic Kiyser Age 15 (Is this too young?) Appearance Light skin, tall, thin, greyish-blueish-greenish eye color Ability gained Smithing/crafting and good with redstone Anything else I have never been in a roleplay before, and I'm a total newbie.
Salt water streamed out of my blond hair, and I stuggled to stand up, rubbing my eyes to clear them of the foul liquid. When the buzzing in my head cleared, I pushed myself to my feet, surveying the position of the sun. One question seemed to nag more than the others. Where am I? And what do I do now?
Well, I probably came across as a total Marty Stu, and if I know my habits I will have completely forgotten that I had ever posted here by tomorrow. Oh well.
((Your character is fine, age is alright. I'd like you to write in third person past tense though and maybe make your introductory post a little more descriptive of your character. Other than that you're accepted and I hope you don't forget about posting here! :smile.gif: ))
Sadie had spent the better part of an hour drying in the sun and watching the island. It was wide and flat and sandy along the borders, but as you moved inland the terrain grew grassier and more forested and began to slope up. The island's middle was signified by a foreboding stone peak.
Finally, Sadie grew restless from sitting and jumped to her feet and then marched confidently to the edge of the jungle. Then she hesitated. No, I'll circle this thing first. Stick to the shore, see how big it is. No need to head off into the bush just yet. She turned around and walked to the water's edge, let the tide lick at her bare feet. She was still wearing what she had gone to sleep in, a white tank top and small blue shorts. She might as well be naked in such unprotecting clothes, but she felt safer near the ocean where she could squeeze the sand between her toes.
She began walking again, and it wasn't long before she found someone else. He or she was a distance away from Sadie, she could only make them out as a silhouette, but it looked as though they too had emerged from the sea like she did. She headed toward the figure cautiously.

((Abicat, you're accepted, you can post anytime now. As for your question, no, the island isn't squarish in the way it would like in the game. I probably should've added a section that discussed the physics of this roleplay. Anyway, everything is realistic, no block people or mobs. However the terrain does have squarish features. Mining and chopping down trees takes far less time than it would in real life however.))
((Sparkydefay, sorry, you don't seem to understand what I wanted to be filled out in the profile. Gonna have to deny your request to join this.))
((Neoo you're accepted, go ahead and post. Although take note that most people do have basic survival skills, so don't be afraid to upgrade it to intermediate or advanced skills.
Striderscales11, yours looks to be ok, but the profile isn't formatted the way I intended and your character needs a last name. Also, revise your appearance and ability gained sections because they have a few typos. Once you fix those I'll accept you :smile.gif: ))
Striderscales11 Alek Seskamesh 15 Dirty blonde, light tan, deep blue eyes, and tall.
Has an uncanny ability underwater and an oddly good builder for his age.
Again, I'm new to RPs and I'm on an iPod. Please excuse any slight typos.
Altic surveyed his surroundings -- Water on one side, that was where the sun has emerged. It was inching up across the sky now, so that was the east. On the other side, there was grass and dirt. West. Altic hated the feeling of dirt in between his bare toes, so he decided to leave the beach in favor of the grassland that he was used to. He started to climb a tree, then realized that there were high hills all around him. Good. I can get my bearings. He coughed up a mouthful of seawater and, feeling a lot better suddenly, began to ascend...
Kitty suddenly couldn't breathe. Her eyes shot open and stung immensely. It was dark..... and wet? Why was it wet? Kitty kicked out and struggled towards the light she could see shining through the murk. Her head broke the surface of a strangely still ocean. Floating in place, she looked around. There. An island loomed to her left. She swam to it. Her feet eventually dug into soft clay. Could be useful later. Better grab some. Kitty scooped some handfulls of the clay into a ball, which, having no other place to put it, she promptly shoved it into her pocket. She walked up the beach and stumbled over a piece of driftwood, shaped like a sword. She heaved it and swung it. It came to her naturally. Frowning, she carried the sword with her into the undergrowth.
Sadie frowned when she saw the silhouetted figure ahead of her climb into the undergrowth of the jungle. She wanted answers, but she wasn't too keen on stumbling through a forest. Dammit. She thought, resolving to follow the person who'd just gone in. Jogging towards where the person had been on the beach, she crouched over the footprints they left behind in the sand.
"Not very big. Must be a woman," Sadie observed, tracing the outline of the print with a finger. She was relieved it wasn't a man, someone she could take in a fight if she needed to. She followed the tracks to the forest's edge, and then stopped when she noticed wood lying scattered around. She picked up a thin, but durable stick from amongst the detritus. It wasn't waterlogged yet and it was definitely worked on. A shipwreck.
Sadie looked back at the beach twenty yards away. Must've been a high tide that pushed it all the way up here.
Then, holding the stick in front of her, Sadie moved cautiously into the jungle, following the sounds of another person moving through the foliage ahead of her.
((Imnotlikeyou: It looks OK to me, but I want older characters, late teens. So if you could make Rion just a tad older I'd appreciate it. Also, was being good with her hands something she had before she entered the Dreamscape? If so, that's not what I'm getting at with that. The Ability Gained is something they never knew how to do before being the world of Minecraft.
As for the L thing, cobblestone doesn't look like it does in game. Basically, everything looks like it would in real life. There are no spawnpoints either, compasses point north.
One last thing, all of our characters were asleep before they woke up here. They weren't out and about going places and running errands or anything like that. Unless Rion was asleep on the subway, then that's fine. Other than that, it's fine, just make your first post a sort of in depth introduction to your character. Once those few changes are made you'll be accepted.))
Kitty brushed past a large leaflike fern. A stick snapped behind her. Kitty stopped moving immediately and whipped around. She held up the sword and poked carefully at the bushes she had just walked through.
Sadie twisted to the right just in time to avoid the stick that nearly poked her in the face. She cursed herself for not seeing it coming earlier, but the forest was thick with plant life. Raising her own stick, she backed up and said to the stranger, "Okay, come out slowly and you won't get hurt." She hoped she sounded intimidating.
Kitty smirked at the shakiness in the human voice that came through the bushes. She stepped forward anyway, realizing that a voice meant human, and human could be helpful. She pushed away the stick that had been pointed at her in response to her sword. It bent slightly, and kept it's shape. Huh. That would make a good bow. Too bad I suck at archery. "Who are you?" She asked the girl holding the bent stick.
Sadie didn't lower the stick, but her shaking stopped when she got a better look at the girl. She was several inches taller than Sadie, and thin like herself. Yeah, I think I could take her if it comes to it. Sadie wasn't ready to trust this girl yet.
"Sadie," she said tentatively, "And you?"
Although she hadn't noticed it consciously, in the back of her mind something opened up. Something that took note of the flexibility of the stick she was carrying.
Altik reached the crest of the hill within a minute, and looked around. He started with where He washed up, and went counter-clockwise. The beach stretching to the horizon. The edge of the forest. The tree he had tried to climb. The jungle, going on and on into the distant mountains. A floating island!? That can't be right... More and more forest. A pond, water streaming down from the rock face and into what looked like a crater. Forest. Beach. Footprints. I am not alone. and the ocean, stretching out forever and a day. I'd like to sail across that. Someday...
((Also, I hope the floating island is alright. They were always one of my favorite features in Minecraft maps, and since it's sort of fantasy, I thought it might be okay.))
Kitty grinned. She lowered the sword and stepped back. "I'm Kitty." She said. Suddenly, a it got a little darker. The sun was setting, and Kitty had a bad feeling that night here wasn't quite the walk in the park. "We should get higher, climb a tree maybe?" She said, glancing at Sadie. She frowned thoughtfully. There had been a Sadie in here school. Were they both here for some distant reason? Probably not. That was her imagination flying free again. She wrote a mental note to keep it in check.
Sadie had to agree with the girl, Kitty. As the sun sank lower and lower a feeling of dread rose up inside her. Something about nighttime on this island did not make her feel at ease, as the night usually did.
"Yeah, good idea," Sadie agreed, she pointed to a sturdy looking tree that was draped with its leaves. They'd be practically invisible up in that one. "There, let's climb up that one." Using her flexible stick as a climbing tool, Sadie ascended into the tree. She was surprised at how easy it was considering she hadn't climbed a tree since her childhood.
