Hello, all, you've all probably not have heard of me, especially in this forum, but I have rather extensive idea for a new RP, one wildly different from existing role-plays, one of sheer magnitude, one covering not only one group of people, lumped together on a 'quest' or, something. I want to see a RP of many nations, an RP where people can rule a city-state or empire, fighting against the next tribe for coal resources, or perhaps a trade route carrying gold. Nations would grow, nations could war, nations could do anything they wanted.
You could be a trade master, controlling routes and resources; perhaps you could be a warmonger, conquering city by city, or maybe you could be a grand inventor, building railroads and castles, contraptions and launchers. It's all up to you, really.
But how would this work?
Firstly, you can't simply conquer another nation just by saying so, or becoming a mega-empire of 500,000 million people, there would be a mod system, of hopefully a few people running numerous tasks, from deciding wars, to making random events, to controlling some NPCs. Mods would control the game, yes, but you would be able to war and expand, as long as you have a good military and plenty of settlers.
Each nation would begin with one town, on a large map. Resources would be marked out, and nations would be able to begin by claiming their town and some surrounding area. Turns would go by a predetermined format, and you can gather, build, war, trade, expand, explore, or anything, have fun, it's the goal :wink.gif:
Resources would be important, to build a city, use your stone and wood, to make railroads, use some iron and coal, to build an army, you need diamonds, to do anything, you need resources.
But, of course, I can't go over this all now, so if I can get this off the ground, I'll make a main thread, detailing everything, anything you need to know to play the game.
Questions and ideas welcome, I hope this can get started. It'll all make sense once can get a main thread up. :wink.gif:
Well, the thing is, it's a very vast and complex idea, I don't want to simply write up an entire thread full of rules and mechanics if no-one had any interest.
This has already been done. It usually fails miserably, either because of the lack of order, or the sheer confusion of so many things going on at once.

The goal would to have a precise, yet thorough rule system to keep gameplay easy and still to the point. And a good mod system would keep order in check.
As I've told you, from past experience, various fail-safe plans had been set up, like what you are planning, perhaps even more elaborately. All failed, ironically. Besides, you'd lack the amount of members to have a proper role-play of this scale to run properly.

I haven't managed any sort of RP like that based on text, I've only watched them from the sidelines. And watching RP activity on this forum, most sink before the month is up, perhaps two to three months tops, unless they're incredibly well-planned out, of course.
