Captain Odiche Ejiofor stood at the base of the Divinity Space Elevator, staring up through the glass ceiling of the complex into the infinitude beyond. The elevator stretched and stretched, far beyond the reach of human eyes. It was 5:30 in the afternoon.
17:30, he reminded himself. It had been too long since he had been in space. Soon, the time would have no meaning except the meaning they gave it by their schedules. Their world would be their own in all manners of the world. It would be an empty, beautiful peace. It had bee too long.
The captain turned to his crew. This was, for most of them, their first meeting.
The soldiers, a young blonde and an older man with a shaved head seemed to have gravitated together, somewhat in the centre of the group. Neither of them had the form of an earth-native.
Odiche recognized Dr. Tsutena from photographs and dossiers. A talented scientist, she was here for her involvement in the creation of the munitions they were transporting. He could hardly imagine the weight which must be on her shoulders.
The rest of the crew, he would come to know soon. Their time together would be lengthy, but hopefully mundane. Captain Ejiofor had not been out of the war for so long that he was wishing for excitement of an unexpected kind. Routine would be fine for him.

Riddare paced along the walkway that circled some kind of food area. He was to board the Ulysses in half an hour, but had stopped for a quick snack. Several minutes of waiting in line and food preparation later, he had received his wrap and began quickly making his way to the Divinity Space Elevator.
It wasn't a long walk but it did provide some traffic, and as he paced the walkway he weaved between the incoming people that stood beyond him. At some point he arrived at the base of the elevator, and he finally - at long last - saw what was no doubt the crew of which he would be spending the next unforeseeable length of time with.
It wasn't hard to distinguish each member's specific role, and it was clear who the captain was. Riddare casually saluted while walking up to the crew, all the while munching on a chicken wrap. Perhaps it wasn't as professional as he should have been, especially considering this was their first meeting, but he figured it would make him seem a little less hostile, which is what he goes for regardless. Once caught up with the group, he counted them off, and noted the crew member roles. There were a few astray, but he was sure he'd see them soon. He looked up the elevator shaft; Not long until we board...
Dony arrived soon after, and was immedietly baffled at the sight of one of (He assumed) the commanding officers casually eating a chicken wrap. Dony had assumed first impressions meant a lot based on his experience, and he had certainly prepared accordingly, but he was confused that the presumed commanding officer hadn't eaten beforehand. Perhaps this was to be a more casual experience? No, the sensitive nature of the munitions and the presence of armed and trained soldiers proved otherwise. Perhaps it's the standard personality deviation- some were bound to be more spontaneous and carefree than others.
The engineer cleared his head as he approached the man with the chicken wrap- the one he assumed to be in command. He extended his hand and spoke, "Dony Pere, reporting."

Riddare had to fully finish the chunk of his food in his mouth, creating a possibly awkward moment of silence as Dony extended his hand. He swallowed his food in a visibly tough way, is if trying to get that particular bite down quickly to respond. "Pleasure to meet you -" Cough "- Sorry. Pleasure to meet you Dony, glad to have you on the team." He chuckled slightly. "I haven't eaten yet so I thought I'd grab something before leaving." He extended his hand finally, after leaving Dony hanging for more than a few seconds.
A rather young man with a very blended skin tone approached the two men. His gait wavered a little; he was not used to these shoes. Awkwardly, he stuck out his hand.
"Hello. Abel Parks, sir. Engineering. I'm looking forward to being on the crew," he said. His voice had an accent, stiff and proper, clearly from one of the colonies. His hair was thin, black, and cut as close to regulation as it could be.
