The Ulysses XVI is leaving Earth's military port tomorrow for a six month journey to the frontlines of the Human-Roxani War.
The ship's cargo? A new type of munition, whose destructive capabilities are classified from all but the most vital members of the crew.
The ultimate goal? To defeat the Roxani Coalition, a united front of countless alien civilizations who have banded together in defiance of The Empire of Humanity's exploration, expansion, and survival.
How will this roleplay work?
1. First, members will apply to fill one of the following roles aboard the Ulysses XVI:
Chief of Staff (essentially a second-in-command; oversees the other staff of the ship.)
Medical Officer (the doctor, of course.)
Munitions Technician (primary purpose being to ensure that the ship's cargo doesn't explode or suffer damage which renders it useless. Mostly the first one, though.)
Soldier (two of these, ideally. Theoretically, they are present for the worst case scenario, that the ship enters combat with the Roxani or other antagonistic forces. Also, to stop any traitors onboard the ship.)
Chief Engineer (all the ship-fixing stuff goes here.)
Subordinate Engineer (secondary engineering. Not necessary, but more than welcome.)
Pilot (generally a one-person job for these ships, but there is room for a subordinate here. They handle navigation and communications.)
That means there is room for 6-9 members. Ideally, we'll need at least 4, and I can fill additional roles as NPCs. (As I will be doing with the Captain, for reasons of national security.)
That also means there will be a large emphasis on staying committed to the roleplay. Obviously, life happens. But if people begin disappearing semi-permanently, then the roleplay doesn't happen, quite simply. Unavoidable absences can be handled, of course, but unannounced absences are very difficult to deal with for a roleplay like this.
That said, there will come a point down the road where more members could join, and where people whose characters were killed could make a new character. This, of course, would only happen if the roleplay lasted that long, which would be dependent upon people not disappearing.
2. Then, some shady backroom dealing will occur. There are several different aspects to this.
On one hand, members will be encouraged to send me a PM if they are interested in having parts of their character kept secret but incorporated into the overall plot. This includes secret motivations, affiliations with illegal organizations, plots for sabotage/treason. In fact, it's almost required that one person have some ulterior motive. I'll explain this better if we get past the interest check stage.
On another hand, I will message certain people who have filled certain roles with secret information only they would know. For example, the Munitions Technician will be given the information regarding the nature of the munitions.
3. Finally, the roleplay will begin. Expect a lot of information regarding the ship, general technology, the setting, the Roxani, and Earth to be provided between the official post and the rest of the first page.
4. Of course, it just wouldn't do to ignore the fact that the roleplay will then get far more involved. There will be a lull at the beginning to develop characters and relationships, followed by some fast-paced action which will set the plot into its highest gear. Characters will die, and there will come a point where the control over these deaths will no longer be given to roleplayers.
When will it start?
Of course, it's important not to ignore the earliest part of the process:
0. Before anything else, this interest check needs to get off the ground. You can assist by posting a comment below. Everything is helpful feedback. Do you have questions? Ask, and I shall answer. Is this something which already sounds interesting? Let me know, so I can keep track of how many people are interested. Do you want to provide some criticism? Have at it. Did you simply stop in by accident, and now want to know a way out? Post a simple 'not interested' before you slink away.
This post will be used to collect criticism, suggestions, and commentary from the thread, as well as to develop a list of interested members. Additionally, it will hold some information not provided in the OP.
Proposed Rules:
Consistent activity has already been covered well enough above for it to be clear that this is important.
Writing skill will be important, in so far as posts must be easily coherent to encourage a clean and welcoming environment.
Post length should average at least a paragraph per post, but I'll be lenient so long as everyone is committed to maintaining a good standard.
Bullying or blatantly hostile OOC behaviour will not be tolerated.
No godmoding (metagaming, powerplaying, godmodding, and unreasonable retconning)
Im interested. My only suggestion would be a "secret" for each role, like how you described the technician knows what the cargo is. (However, I would assume that the soldiers have the same secret, and the engineers as well.)

I'll be sure to give every character a different 'secret', in addition to any ones roleplayers work out with me about the character outside of its role. Thanks for the suggestion!
Additionally, I have to say that I'm very glad to hear that you're interested.
Fun is my goal, and your presence will help us to obtain it!
As for being pilot: sure thing! I probably should have mentioned that people were allowed to claim positions in the interest check, but I'll do that now: if you're committing to roleplaying, feel free to claim one of the roles.

I reckon this is interesting enough for me to break my hiatus and come back (I've just been looking at these forums every couple weeks basically). I'd also like my character to be a pilot like AstralMaria's as I'm fairly sure my character fits that role more than a soldier but if he can't then soldier it'll be.
Edit: Subordinate pilot perhaps? Or maybe the Chief Engineer, but then again I don't know haha
My character's more of an agile, perceptive kind of guy.

Hi Knight; welcome back!
I'm going to make the suggestion/request that you choose a role other than subordinate pilot; I was making that an option in case there was a surplus of players, which there doesn't seem to be. Having a Soldier or a Chief Engineer would be very welcome, but also keep in mind the Chief of Staff position; I imagine they could have some military background as well, and it's a position I would really appreciate seeing filled. That said, your interest is enough to make me excited, so take whichever role suits your character best!

I would certainly be interested in this roleplay!
And I would certainly be interested in having you as a part of it!
Count me in! This seems like it'll really be fun.
Edit: I'd also like to be the pilot.

Oh, could I claim the doctor? I've got a character that would work rather well for this, as a doctor.
Certainly.
@Scarfking? Any claims for you to place?
No, thank you. I'll decide when i write up my application.

In that case, I might reserve the Chief of Staff position. I think I'll be able to weave my character to fit that role.
The position will be reserved for three days as of now. Feel free to post your application whenever you have the time.
