Over the past thousands of years, humanity's greed for resources has pushed our understanding of technology to places we today wouldn't even be capable of comprehending. Billions upon billions were invested into unimaginably high speed space travel, and as time went by, the human race eventually managed to begin colonialism and imperialism on a scale once thought only possible in science fiction. Colonies and outposts spread throughout the entire Milky Way, collecting any kind of metals and source of energy available to them in the celestial bodies.
While tensions increased due to the slow and eventual decrease in resources, as humans everywhere very quickly used up everything available, some trouble stirred on the outskirts of the galaxy. In a system of one sun and three planets, laid a group of connected colonies, which had established itself in the system as a booming outpost. However, as with all good things, it didn't last. A group named the Syndicate, once in power, kept it through establishing an authoritarian regime, using the military and surveillance in particular to keep control.
The entire system fell under their rule, and the group seemingly quelled any sort of rebellion with ease. They watched over the planets like kings, while the majority of the people who worked in harnessing the remaining resources and basically keeping the economy of the system going were left in dire conditions, to say the least. Yet, most of the profits gained were often given to the dictators, while the rest were handed out evenly to the people who worked for the Syndicate themselves(such as the military). And for a while, it certainly looked like things were going to stay like this. The government had even installed a new security system, building weaponised space stations and harnessing the power of the sun through a few constructed dyson rings. With this practically endless source of energy, the system now automatically fired upon ships not licensed to leave the system, this virtually confining all the citizens to the planets/system even if they managed to gain access to a FTL speed vehicle. This was referred to as the Energy Gate, and at the time, was most definitely a great idea for the Syndicate, easily used to keep people from escaping the planets, which in themselves have already become prisons of sorts.
All this changed during the 15th year of the Syndicate's reign though. Years of propaganda and militaristic oppression certainly kept most people under control, but the government really fell after years upon years of corruption and the eventual plotting and backstabbing which were brought upon from competitors within the group itself. The inevitable effects of decay took their toll as time went by, and all that was needed was a few weeks after the collapse before chaos overtook all the three planets.
The second furthest planet from the star of the system actually had the best advantage in this case. Huge squads of military actually left discreetly to destroy a group of rebels located in the outermost planet in the system, leaving the place ultimately very undefended when the Syndicate finally fell. With no one now in control of the Energy Gate, everyone was practically stuck on the planets. Government outposts laid on each planets, and only through the reuniting and hard work of all the people on the planet, would a solution be created in order to deactivate the Energy Gate. Unfortunately enough, factions arose from the eventual power vacuum caused by the death of the regime, with many clans now aiming to take control of the planet.
In a small town named Trion, which usually focused on metal extraction as the main source of income, a new group has decided to take the reigns of the remaining military and people in the city. Aiming for justice and establishing order to the planet now in turmoil, they arm themselves with the available technology, and begin planning strategies to retake the world, and combat the other various factions vying for power.
Introduction
Hello there. Welcome to The Price of Dystopia, a sci-fi/dystopian roleplay, as partly established in the short background story written above. It is based on the efforts of a community of people, and how they aim to reunite a chaotic world, destablised by a collapsing regime. It will be a very tough and difficult journey, rife with danger, death, and rewarding moments(such as when one finally manages to capture a city ruled over by a rogue tribe of bandits). Expect the group's technology to be slightly limited at first to the basics of weaponry in this age(laser rifles, small vehicles), before their arsenal slowly grows as they strategically collect more land and resources(laser tanks and convoy fights, anyone?).
This RP obviously plagiarises takes lots of inspiration from Mafia's great Hot Zone RP, which now that I think about it, could actually both take place in the same universe pretty seamlessly. Anyways, link to the revival post is there. Some parts of this could also be inspired by Mad Max, in the sense that intense futuristic vehicular fights on the roads are definitely something that's going to be happening in the RP. Plus with the whole theme that the future can be a pretty horrible place to live in. Ideas and suggestions also come from others who've participated in the RP themselves, and can usually be found presented originally in the OOC thread(here).
A Recap
Nothing of real significance yet, but here is where summaries of recent events will be kept for newcomers/roleplayers to catch up on what has recently happened.
Lore
The Arcturus System
The story takes place on the second furthest planet from the star(Crest) of the system(Arcturus), named Traltus. The celestial body is of an average size(similar to Earth's), and is orbited by two relatively small moons, mostly just filled with dense ores and minerals. The planet has an odd elliptical orbit around the star, but not so much that it makes life completely impossible. The seasons of the planet can often shift from hot to cold at least twice a year, and sometimes even more or less depending on the circumstances. Due to the abundance of different metals on the planet, Traltus is most often seen as an industrial hub, which had been growing to become the economic centre of the system before the Syndicate came into power.
The landscape of the planet can be hazardous in some areas, certain spots even being homes to deadly alien creatures. Jungles and greenery are uncommon, and most often one only finds barren landscapes, made of stone or sand. Sources of water and man made greenhouses do exist, but don't expect them to be something one finds at every turn.
A few constructs known as dyson rings were set up by the Syndicate, using some of the energy emanating from Crest to power laser weaponry, which automatically strikes down any unlicensed spaceship or vehicle leaving the system/planet. A few space stations can also be found orbiting planets/the star in the Arcturus System, most made either for surveillance or to be used as weapons of mass destruction.
It is also said that the Great Barren(a huge and dangerous expanse of desert) was once a vast ocean long since evaporated. Perhaps the current sun/star expanding as a dying giant dwarf star has caused the temperature on the planet to rise, or perhaps the Syndicates construction of the giant Dyson Rings within such close proximity to the planet has something to do with it. Either way, most people agree - the planet, along with the cities and towns, are dying.
The Cities
The capital of the entire planet is named Valentine City. Romanticised and over-hyped, it left visitors broke and disillusioned with just one visit to the town. It features extravagant architecture, stunning nightlife, and breathtaking views, provided you are part of the well-to-do elite and upper crust of society. Otherwise you'll only see the heartbreaking slums and dilapidated inner city... but they never show you that in the brochure. For the most part, no one has any real idea as to what has happened to the capital, but theories range from a bandit takeover, to the leftovers of the Syndicate holing up in there. Either ways, the city is bound to hold an important element essential to the survival of the people on Traltus, as well as some useful high grade weaponry...
Trion on the other hand(the city where this all starts in), is a former shell of itself, clawing at the fringes of the eastern wastelands. Once a fairly thriving mining town and outpost, the collapse of the Syndicate sealed its fate. The oppressive grip is gone, but so are the large orders for the ores extracted from the mines to fuel the massive industrial and military complex that was the Syndicate. Only a few companies still rumble along, mining and hauling ores for the highest bidders.
Trion is the last bastion before the Great Barren - a massive expanse of desert, windwhipped and cratered. Before the collapse of the Syndicate, many of the residents of Trion earned additional funds by exterminating the massive desert dwelling creatures in the the Great Barren. This kept the creatures numbers down as to not encroach on the settlements beyond Trion. Now with the Syndicate gone, and no market for desert bug extermination, the desert pests numbers have been rapidly rising. It is beginning to pose not only a threat to settlements on the borders of the Great Barren but also to the towns and cities further inland. These monstrosities have been rumoured to have devoured entire settlements. Again, these are only rumours, but perhaps there is some truth to be found in them after all...
The Factions
As for the factions, quite a few are honestly just hungry for power or hoping to revitalise the Syndicate with them on the top. While a few other tribes on the planets have succumbed to madness, and the tactics they employ are most certainly ones only the insane would even think of using. There's a huge variety of people and clans, and they all have different goals and reasons for why they're doing what they're doing. The aftermath of 15 years of dystopia has certainly affected society, so be prepared to encounter questionable people/situations and tough decisions.
If one manages to dig through all of the other groups of bandits and criminals, one would find the Arc League. Established in the city of Trion by a group of ambitious people, they seek to use the resources at hand to reunite the world in turmoil, and fix everything that has went wrong in the past 15 years.
Behold the Rotax Brotherhood. Initially an underground synthetic drug manufacturing and smuggling ring with ties within the Syndicate and some of the high families, they found plenty of recruits and desperate citizens after the Syndicate fell. Consequently, synthetic drug use skyrocketed after the Syndicate lost the ability of round the clock surveillance. Countless citizens suddenly lost their meager previous finances and employment due to the collapse and the Rotax Brotherhood was more than willing to supply the demand. They have now expand into all avenues of crime and extortion.
Society
Synth is the main drug of choice on the streets and is characterised as giving the user a sense of invincibility and increased strength and stamina. Before the Syndicate collapse it was often utilised in rare circumstances and lower doses to power workers through long shifts in dangerous industries, but now many simply use it to survive and escape reality. After prolonged abuse addictions can form and addicts develop what is referred to as Synthas. Their skin often becomes hard and scale-like, and they begin to lose the ability to experience pain due to damage to nerve receptors in the central nervous system. Once the onset of "Synthas" begins, the addicts life expectancy is quite short as the body begins a rapid breakdown of internal connective tissues. Essentially all the internal organs disconnect and the victim eventually either bleeds to death internally or evacuates their semi-liquefied organs out their orifices. A horrific sight either way.
Technology
As expected, faster than light(FTL) travel is most certainly a thing in the future. Exploiting concepts and loopholes, warp drives were created that could propel ships into places much faster than light could, thus bringing forth the 'Milky Way Scramble', as humanity rushed to grab new land and install colonies on fresh planets ripe for the taking.
In terms of high grade weaponry, humanity now has a very clear understanding of projectiles such as lasers and railgun technology, and wars are now deadlier than ever before. Dyson spheres and rings are now constructs capable of being built, and can extract a star's energy to do a multitude of things. The two main examples of a technological system exploiting a sun's energy very efficiently would be the Solar Guardian and the Energy Gate. Whilst the Solar Guardian focuses more on harnessing the powers of the star itself and sending a barrage of microwave beams at any unlicensed intruders, the Energy Gate is a laser system focused on turning a planetary system into a prison, destroying any sort of vehicle leaving the system that does not have permission to do so. These are practically impossible to destroy, as the dyson rings/spheres themselves are often protected by the system they're powering, and waiting for a sun's energy to completely fizz out is most certainly not an option.
Rules
The basic things, such as no godmodding, metagaming, powerplaying, and etc. Essential concepts you should already know of. If you don't know of those words, read up on the subject here and then come back once you have a clear understanding of the terms.
Read all of the OP and the rules. If this is not done and I manage to detect a huge inconsistency that tells me so, you will be denied.
Since I am the gamemaster of the RP, expect me to ultimately be the judge on any topic relating to the RP.
I'm not asking you to write a book in Shakespearean style for every post, but please at least attempt to put some effort into your writing. Therefore, I expect no one liners whatsoever. Same goes for your application, I expect some level of effort put into them.
Please refrain from creating Mary Sues/Gary Lous(a character perfect in nearly everything).
Now, I'm not a grammar nazi, and make mistakes and typos in my writing as well. And that's fine, all of us here are human. But please, at least attempt to write properly or improve upon yourself. Note this, seeing IC posts made in text speak with no capital letters or full stops whatsoever melts my eyeballs, so please try to refrain from doing so.
Romance and violence is fine, just don't go too overboard please.
Alien races do not exist in this RP. Exotic alien creatures do, but beings that show signs of human level intelligence are simply not found in this roleplay.
Please don't go off starting flame wars in the OOC thread at every turn.
Understand that human technology has advanced far, but that doesn't mean you should go off and strap InterContinental Ballistic Missiles(ICBMs) to your character. Things like laser weaponry and robots are somewhat common in Trion; weapons of mass destruction such as kinetic bombardment from space aren't. Basically, use common sense.
If this RP manages to last long, I will be appointing other moderators to hold this roleplay up. If it comes to that, please acknowledge their comments and decisions, and don't just ignore them. Also related: don't spam me with messages to be a moderator.
The lore and recap sections will be updated from time to time, so do take a look to see what's changed every now and then.
This RP will work in a bit of a 'missions' kind of format. New characters are usually only allowed to join during the break/intermission between these missions.
I don't know if most people already do this, but subscribing to the RP's threads will very easily keep you up to date on the latest developments.
This isn't exactly a rule, but make sure to remember this. If this roleplay happens to be on a bumpy patch(such as a character suddenly disappearing), do not believe that this roleplay is dead. This can very easily snowball into a collective group of people believing the roleplay is dead and not replying, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. I don't expect responses the minute people post, but if you're leaving/are busy for a week or more, you should probably inform me(and any potential mods) so that I(we) can prepare. Also, please don't write an application, join, and then end up leaving upon your first post in the IC thread.
Most importantly, have fun. It might sound a bit clichéd, but the OOC thread is always open to discussions of any sort in the RP. If you happen to have lore, ideas, tips, or anything you want to share, go ahead!

Application
Hopefully you had found some interest in reading the huge amounts of text written above.
Either ways, with the applications I've actually decided to try out something new.
All you need to do is(and I quote from myself) write an excerpt(s) describing your character to introduce her/him. DirtDog provides an example here:
Maggie hadn't noticed that anyone had entered the front office, so she was slightly surprised to see the group congregated in the cramped dusty room. Her father was standing behind the long counter dividing him from the flamboyant crowd blocking the entertance door. The group, particularly the well dressed male which seemed to be speaking on their behalf, struck her as odd. They all wore expensively tailored clothes further accentuated with gaudy jewelry. As she entered the front office the room fell silent as the eyes of the room fell on her. The appearance of the group made her skin crawl. They were much to extravagant to be any of the local mining fore and or even chief executives of any of the mining companies that frequented the shop to negotiate repair contracts for their equipment.
"I'll give you a few days to further consider our offer. Perhaps you'll see our generosity a bit more clearly sooner rather than later...", the well dressed male trailed off with a greasy smile. " I think it would be in both your best interests." He finished as he nodded towards Maggie as she leaned against the entryway behind the long counter. He turned with a flourish and nodded to the group and they quickly and quietly filed out of the office into the dusty front lot. Outside they all piled into large, extravagant vehicles before slowly driving out onto the equally parched and dusty road leading back towards Trion.
"What was that about?" Maggie asked as she nodded towards the now empty parking lot. She could see whatever it was about it troubled her father as he rubbed his weathered face with his wrinkled broad hands.
"Well, it seems that the Rotax Brotherhood is no longer content to peddle their garbage in the city. They extended their "generous" offer to put us to work for them.", he finished with a grunt and spit on the floor in disgust. He turned his eyes towards Maggie and his face softened and he let out a pained sigh. "We are no longer safe even out here. I doubt they will return and take my polite refusal and leave it at that."
Maggie gave her father a reassuring hug as he continued to rub his stubbly cheek and gaze out across the dusty parking lot deep in thought.
I would like this rp. But one question. Why can't you just use a spaceship and fly away. The guards are going to chase you but if you're ftl than you can turn invisible right?
The in place Dyson Rings from the sounds of it are preventing any sort of reliable travel. Automated with no one left up there to turn them off, ships trying to leave a planet are vaporized before they are able to get FTL? The human aspect seems like the least of the worries as automated systems cannot be bargained with or bribed or corrupted to a point. Most of the ships that were properly "licensed" were probably destroyed during the fall/insurrection and the remaining ones still in flying condition are being used by the few remaining pockets of wealthy/connected/corrupt people with the ships in their possession? That's my take on it anyways.
I'll throw my hat in the ring and will be ready to go if this gets off the ground -
Maggie Rue
A middle aged female who works at her family machinery repair shop. Specializing in metal ore/mining mechs, her family has been in the repair business for multiple generations. Maggie has had a spanner wrench in her hands as soon as she was able to pick one up, and has a local reputation as the go-to person for quality repair work. She can fix most systems, ranging from simple multi-gyro bi-ped harvesters to small dual booster coil / sub-orbital mining barges, leaving her to tinker with devices and self-stylized inventions during her down time.
More of a tomboy than a proper lady, her face is usually grubby and hands and nailbeds stained by the grease and grime culminating from the work she does. Even still, the grime and grit cannot hide her fiery red hair, which falls to her shoulders. Her slender, agile frame forged from the years of working with heavy equipment and tools.
Up at the front counter Maggie could see her father bent over the counter, head cocked to one side as he listened the the dirty old radio sitting next to him. A crackly voice faded in and out, emanating from the radios speakers, reading out the recent Trion news as well as from other nearby planets. She smiled a wry smile to herself and lowered her welding goggles as she fused another set of armor plates together on the mining barge she was repairing.
Ah yes, regarding the topic of FTL travel and how it is dealt with in the RP. To specify as to how it's actually done, I think that the most promising form of FTL travel is currently the Alcubierre drive(which while theoretical, still requires huge amounts of energy). The other popular theory of travel capable of bringing people to places faster than light right now would be wormholes, but using this could end up in some pretty strange moments(such as theorised time travel scenarios), so for now the main form of travel in the RP should be spaceships using the Alcubierre drive, if not some other kind of specialised and improved warp drive(and even then, expect large energy costs for interstellar trips). I'll do more research about this subject later, but I doubt that things such as teleporters, wormholes, or stargates will exist in the RP(if not, they will only exist as an expensive and rare form of transportation).
The Energy Gate was a collection of mechanical systems set up by the Syndicate to ensure that the system is a prison no one can escape from without permission from the higher powers themselves. Referencing Mafia's Solar Guardian:
Solar Guardian
"Solar Guardian" refers to an automated defense mechanism that is installed inside the star of the Ark system. The Solar Guardian drains forty percent of the total energy emitted by the star and disperses it into heat dischargers and microwave cannons. Those weapons target all incoming unregistered ships and robots and fry their circuitry before they get the chance to approach one of the system planets. All of the colonized planets of the Ark system are protected against the cannons of the Solar Guardian behind magnetic shields that block heat and radiation coming from the star.
The Energy Gate relies on this concept slightly, but the dyson rings are used as a source of energy that cannot be destroyed, and as such, one cannot escape through destroying the rings themselves(as the systems powered by the rings will destroy any attempts to attack a ring). Unlike the Solar Guardian's intention of keeping kims(killer machines) out, the Energy Gate is more of a measure to keep people in, as humans at this point can't be bothered to save some irrelevant system at the edge of the galaxy(although the Energy Gate can still attack intruders if needed). The dyson rings are armed with laser weaponry, along with some surrounding space stations, some even more equipped with special equipment(force fields?).
Yep, DirtDog understands the main concepts pretty well. Before one manages to reach FTL speed/level, the Energy Gate will have noticed and vaporised the escapee. Same for the ships: barely any that were already licensed would have survived the collapse of the Syndicate, and if any were left, the first person smart enough to have found it/use it would have already left the moment she/he found it. Either ways, the quantities of these ships are low, as most were reserved for just military transport or the higher ups in the regime to use privately.
Sooner or later, the factions(our protagonists especially) will eventually look to investigating government outposts and buildings to find more about how to remotely disable and control the Energy Gate. This is extremely difficult to do though, as one would not only have to battle their way through the hordes of bandits to find an outpost(and maybe even patrol and control the area), but one would need time to research and also battle off anyone willing to take the place from them, including any remains of Syndicate forces which survived the collapse. And this definitely isn't some sort of one time trip to a small outpost, but the Trion community would most likely need to have already studied each of the outposts' and government buildings' secrets in detail, in order to even have a chance of finding a way to get off the planet safely. Once that is done, know that escaping the system itself is a whole different subject altogether, and will most likely require investigation into the other two rogue and unchecked planets' outposts as well, but I'll leave this for when we get closer there(unless anyone wants to know more about it).
On another subject, I don't think I've stressed this enough, but if this does get greenlit, I'm going to be writing a bit more about the dystopia that the Syndicate created(considering that the word itself is in the title). Things like how they've held power, how it eventually collapsed, the effects it had on people over the 15 years, how it created the people you can see today(such as bandits), and etc. This is especially useful and interesting to discuss about when the characters are traversing through the ruins of the world created by a now defunct dictatorship.
Speaking of which, if anyone has any ideas for names(or just ideas in general) regarding gangs, the planetary system, the 3 planets, the star, cities surrounding the area, provinces, and etc., I'd be happy to hear them. Either ways, glad to see that you guys are interested, I'm certainly already hyped up for this.
Well there is the capital - Valentine City. Romanticized and over-hyped, leaving visitors broke and disillusioned once they visit. Yutani is the planet which Valentine City, Trion as well as other cities and settlements are located. It features an odd elliptical orbit around its sun; the closest of the 3 planets in the Weyland system to the sun. This makes the seasons odd and the climate fluctuate between hot and oppressive. Yutani has been experiencing a rather long hot period but there have been hints and whispers that the unusually long hot season is about to finally break... how will affects the current political situation has yet to be determined. Yutani is orbited by dual moons, both small, dense, and very rich in ores and minerals; further feeding Yutanis reputation as a raw materials bonanza.
I'll stop there and let someone else throw some lore and locations out there too if they so desire.
Alright, sounds good. Great ideas offered DirtDog, I'll definitely be including most of them in the RP. An elliptical orbit and two moons are certainly going to have strange and interesting effects on the planet, will certainly be looking into that. I don't really know about the names, but we'll see.
Either ways, it looks like 4 people are already interested(5 if you count me). I guess I'll start work on creating the full RP now. If anyone else would like to add in some more of their own ideas for lore here(or just show their interest), feel free to do so.
If I do not reply to my posts, I either have no internet connection, or am busy with college work. Alternatively, I may be writing up the post now. It all depends on the situation.

Good to see more people getting interested. DirtDog, most of the great lore you've written has been adapted slightly and fitted into the OP. If you want me to change anything or have any concerns, just voice them out and I'll respond.
arksiane, if you're asking as to where the protagonists' group(now named the Arc League) will be hiding, the city of Trion will be their main base of operations. I'm sitting on the fence as to whether they should've already united everyone in the city, but Trion will most definitely be their stronghold/safehouse. Police forces on the planet(now known as Traltus) are actually very low, if not non-existent. Most of the remaining Syndicate forces have already left Trion before the fall to be sent to another planet temporarily, so the city is relatively undefended in terms of Syndicate guards. Trion in this case, is now kept in order by an community of concerned people in the city, who have come together as an independent police force, of which the Arc League is currently trying to absorb to create one single group.
I've added a lot more to the OP and have transformed the interest check into the RP's OOC thread. Please be sure to read up on everything except for the plot summary(I assume you already read this before). Once that's done, feel free to make your applications.
personality: mute, slow to trust and hates the syndicate.
skills: Tech: he can make basic tech.
bio:
He doesn't like to tell people about his background but people have pieced together that when the Syndicate fell, his family were killed for treason. Also he is a inventor
Equipment: A picture of his family, a energy smg, a watch and building materials.
Denied I'm afraid. Putting my high expectations for grammar aside for such a small and thus easy-to-check application(full stops and capital letters are things in English), I'd like it if you could take some time to improve your application. A better description of what kind of tech he can build(what does he specialise in, can he build a robot, etc.) and a broader description of his personality and goals would be good, but it'd be better if you could buff up your character's biography as well. There's no way you can tell me that a 24 year old man's life can be summed up in merely two sentences. Tell us how he learned how to... um... become an inventor when he can only make basic tech, how he learned how to use a gun, what was his life before the Syndicate fell, what was it before they came into power, things like that. Flesh it out more, and try to tell more about him. Also, do add a rough number for his height and weight. The rest I might just let pass, just to make this easier.
Mishiro has a split personality, perceived to be a carefree laid back young women. She has a down to earth, almost go with the flow type attitude. She's on the quiet side only speaking up when she feels she has to, or when she isn't okay with something. She tends to keep to herself and is the farthest thing from an open book. Her stoic like attitude making it almost impossible to tell what she is feeling. She finds it hard to confide in others, believing everyone only looks out for themselves, her trust is very hard to gain. Her upbringing forcing her to be wise beyond her years, as for her age she is an incredibly smart and calculating person. Having an almost cynical view of the world. She doesn't do well with authority, and can almost always be seen rebelling against a person when they attempt to tell her what to do. She takes pride in making her own decisions, and wouldn't want it any other way. This is only part of herself though.
In fact she is a rather cold and emotionless person, the things she endured in her life forcing this drastic change in her personality. She has become very troubled, but still retains part of her former self. She is an aggressive young woman who doesn't willingly take **** from anyone. She is quick to tell a person when they are angering her, which is typically followed by a "warning" or by brutality. Like before she is still very calculating if not more, and despite her twisted personality, she is still very intelligent. She actually enjoys fighting quit a bit and causing trouble, it brings peace to her life in more ways than one. She is relatively cruel and violent, being the type of person to step on them when they're already down. The way she acts can almost be labeled as a psychopath, but how calculating she is keeps her just under the line of psychopath. She loves to cause trouble for those around her rather it be physical or emotional, but she seems to take more delight in emotionally torturing a person. She is very devious and deceptive finding no qualms in using others to get where she needs or wants to be, or using her own feminine charms to get over others. She is always looking for a way to get over people and will happily take it once she finds it.
Despite the way she acts, she is lonely and knowing she is not lonely because of the way she was treated, but because of the way she naturally is depresses her. Her life is filled with sorrow, and she holds that down deep inside of her as it slowly eats her from the inside out. Her fear of being alone has slowly made her delusional, and she at times has a hard time determining the real world from her own imagination. She retreats into her own mind when dealing with everyday life becomes to much for her to handle, and her mind playing tricks on her shows her a world she could only dream of. Mentally she is very unstable, and struggles to retain what little part of her former self is left.
Skills
Mishiro is good at building Machines and Fighting, she mostly made some little helicopters, one of them had a little camera in it that she used to spy people with. With that she has a verysharp eye-sight, making her very good with snipers and any kinds of guns.
Biography
Mishiro was born to Nanasami Usui and Masahiro Usui, she has a respectively normal childhood for the first few years of her life, she went to school, she had friends, and she spent time with her loving parents. The only notable difference between her childhood and most children's was how laid back and quiet she was for a child. Though that was even overlooked by most because of how respectful and sweet she could be, it wasn't until she entered middle school that things began to change. Her mother had gotten pregnant again with a second child, her kid sister Hisashi, around this time her dad started to become an alcoholic and lost his job. Her family came upon hard times, and putting food on the table became a never ending struggle. Her father needing some way to take his frustration out began to abuse Tsumi. She at first was in total shock, depression setting in on her fast She kept what was happening a secret afraid to say anything to anyone about it. She continued on with her life faking the happiness she once had, though slowly the negative impact the abuse had on her could be seen.
She started acting out, her grades began to drop, and she began to get violent. She was quick to anger and as a result she was quick to jump on or fight someone regardless of their age, gender, or size. By the time she was entering high school she had begun to make a name for herself, known to fight anyone that pissed her off it was rare she would lose. Her mother never knowing the reason behind her behavioral changes would do the best she could to find therapist for her and give her all the love and affection she could handle. Her kid sister doing the same, despite the way her older sister acted, she loved her none the less. The way she acted outside of home she tried desperately to hide from her younger sister, but she knew she heard things from others. Many time she would end up running away from home only to end up at her cousin's house. The only person who suspected what was happening to her. He would care for her whenever he needed her, allowing her to come and go as she pleased.
To cope with the abuse at home, she began to develop another personality the cold cynical person she is now. She began to cause trouble around the city and neighborhood, being labeled as a delinquent, she was arrested for a few petty charges of vandalism and theft, but being under age she was usually just sent to juvenile for a few months before returning home. She then started building machines, mostly toys that she could sell on the streets so she could get some money and move away from her family, with that she then all of the sudden started making guns and allbsorts of weapons so she then heard something about another planet and retake it, so when she got some information she was surprised and wanted to go help them.
Equipment
Mishiro has a some guns with her ( such as the two that she has in hand in the picture ) that she uses to fight with, she has a very sharp eye-sight so that comes in handy, she then has a little pocket knife in case she has to sneak-attack someone, then she has a little helicopter with a camera inside it to spy on people and get information and then she has a spray can that she uses to blind her enemies with.
Theme Song
I'll accept this(arksiane, this is the minimum amount of content I'm somewhat expecting), but you'll need to fix some things up first. Once again, telling Mishiro's height and weight would be useful. Other than that, I'll most definitely be needing a written description of your character's appearance, as I'm very sure that your character doesn't intend to walk around dressed as shown in the photo, especially in a dystopian city, where society is already... let's say more messed up than usual.
Regarding dissociative identity disorder/multiple personality disorder, it's actually an extremely tricky thing to play as a roleplayer. If you decide to stick with this, keep in mind that the mental illness should be represented accurately and realistically. OsakaSun talked about this and other mental illnesses here, but here is the main part you should keep in mind:
DID/MPD
Do you know what those stand for?
Dissociative identity disorder/Multiple personality disorder. They’re the same thing. What do they mean?
Split personalities.
I’ve certainly seen this several times, often confused with schizophrenia, and like schizophrenia have only seen it portrayed accurately in roleplay characters a few times. Yes, it shares symptoms, but it’s not the same thing.
Here, before I go about telling you why you’re so wrong, here’s a list of symptoms found on Wikipedia:
• Multiple mannerisms, attitudes and beliefs that are not similar to each other
• Unexplainable headaches and other body pains
• Distortion or loss of subjective time
• Comorbidity
• Depersonalisation
• Derealisation
• Severe memory loss
• Depression
• Flashbacks of abuse/trauma
• Unexplainable phobias
• Sudden anger without a justified cause
• Lack of intimacy and personal connections
• Frequent panic/anxiety attacks
• Auditory hallucinations of the personalities inside their mind
Now, how many of those did your character with MPD exhibit? Maybe the first one and the last one, right?
Really, I can’t do much about this. What I can say is that, unless you’re able and willing to have such a complex, in depth character that shows most if not all of the above symptoms (accurately), you should steer away from MPD. Really, you should steer away from any mental illness at all.
Most people aren’t even aware that they have it, and it can be fairly hard to detect. Really, I’d suggest you stay away from it altogether; it’s too complex for the average—and even several of the more experienced—roleplayer(s) to handle. (And that is NOT a challenge.)
The rest honestly looks fine, except for that I'm actually worried that your character appears to be a bit of a Mary Sue. She can create machines, use them, is skilled at fighting, is sharp-eyed with shooting, is calculative and smart, etc. Since the RP is more focused on teamwork, you might want to switch this up a bit. I also think that self-teaching yourself(especially without resources) how to engineer high tech weaponry(especially those created in the 72nd century) is a bit fishy, but the thing I'm more concerned about is how she learned how to fight and shoot with accuracy(wasn't very clearly mentioned).
Also, I don't know if you read the OP(or the OOC thread), but the Arcturus System has been on lock down due to the Energy Gate for virtually 15 years. Your character would most likely need to have been born on the planet itself, rather than just deciding to come now.
Well, to be honest, I did write her whole appearance but it din't let me post it for some reason, so I had to find a random picture for her ... And plus, her Machines don't always work so she can even lose easily.
Feel free to edit your application and add in the description for her appearance then. If you're sticking with the multiple personality disorder, just keep in mind that realism should be valued when having a character with a mental illness.
The only other two real problems would be my concern for 'Mary Sue' and the fact that the Arcturus System has been closed for practically 15 years(just edit that part of your character's biography to fit with this). And yes, while I understand that her machines might not work all the time, she most definitely won't lose easily, considering that she has fighting skills and is accurate with a gun(not to mention being calculative and, as such, being capable of quickly using the environment to her advantage even when one of her machines fail).
Um... your post has disappeared.
Looks like the forum's spam filter might've picked it up. You might want to talk to a moderator about getting it back(if not, you'll have to write the app up again sadly).
Sorry to hear that.
Luckily enough, you can start off from my quote of your original application if you want(and thus, won't need to start from scratch).
Miki is a girl who is not afraid to speak. It often seems like she doesn't have any manners and doesn't think before speaking or actions. She won't take no for an answer and clearly knows whats she wants. She likes to joke around and tries to make the best out of life. This girl is not someone who shares her true feelings with other that easily, keeping them for herself even if it breaks her on the inside. She looks strong, happy and full of life and she often gives the impression she doesn't care about anything and nothing can hurt her but she just doesn't want others to bother with her problems. Her sometimes rude and loud personality makes het look a little boyish but also often gets her in a lot of trouble. She is always looking for adventure and a way to get out of the prison the people live in, even if it will kill her. Some people won't like Miki because she always speaks out her thoughts which can sometimes be hurtful but really doesn't mean it in a bad way. When you get to know her better you will find out that everything she does is ment good and that she is actually really friendly.

Biography
Mishiro was born to Nanasami Usui and Masahiro Usui, a happy married couple, Mishiro was always a curious little girl that liked to watch his father make little machines from the day she started walking on her little feet. And when she had the first day of school, she made a of of friends that would play with her. She was a happy little child, full of joy. She never seemed to be sad, nor quiet.
At the age of 12, she asked her father if he could teach her on how to make little toys, her father accepted it and started teaching her the basics, it was fun for her and really amusing. At the age of 14, she made her first little robot toy that she then made a bit more and started selling on the streets, she got some money out of it, she then used it to buy more materials so her father could teach her more. At the age of 16, she already started making guns just in case terrorist's would came, but most of her guns failed and she had to make a new one, or fix the problem that took 1 week to find.
At the age of 17 to 19 she started making more intense guns and made a whole full room of them, she then one day hear about something shutting down for 15 years, she wasn't even that interested in it but when she heard about the retake, she got some information and decided that she will join.

(( I hope this is better, and I'm sorry about the short Bio, I din't want to write it all AGAIN ))
Looks good; accepted.
Just a short note for everyone reading this: even if your character happens to have completely no experience in combat or wielding guns, the Arc League will most likely slowly begin teaching the characters about the intricacies about the subjects(especially if one aims to survive in the dystopian planet whilst completing missions).
Maggie hadn't noticed that anyone had entered the front office, so she was slightly surprised to see the group congregated in the cramped dusty room. Her father was standing behind the long counter dividing him from the flamboyant crowd blocking the entrance door. They were much too extravagant to be any of the local mining foremen or even chief executives of any of the mining companies that frequented the shop to negotiate repair contracts for their equipment.

Great writing DirtDog, but you might want to create an application(in the opening post) first if you wish to roleplay your character.
An IC(in character) thread will soon be created once we have a substantial amount of people who've already written applications.

I've got a question. How long has it been since the collapse of the Syndicate? I only ask so that my biography can fit the time line correctly.
It's been around a month or so since the Syndicate fell. Cities like Trion are still functional, but the effects of no longer having a clear organisation in command are slowly becoming more apparent(such as how gangs are now growing a lot more confident). Expect the Arc League to have already formed by around this point(the IC post will introduce the characters to the group and recruit anyone interested).

I'll break this down for you, I've already submitted a character intro. When you presented this as an interest check / intro, it was a stream of heavenly light for this main reason - it was finally an interesting premise without the retarded age/sex/how many gun you got in your pocket app. So I'll break it down even further-
Name - Sure, I can see that putting a characters name out there would streamline things for most involved.
Age - We didn't wait very long to try and stuff asinine information into this, did we? A specific age has nothing to do with how a character survives in a distopian future, outside of young, middle or old. It is only further aggravated with folks who want to have an 18 year old who is the best hacker in the world and can hit every target they shoot at. Mary Sue, as I think you like to call it. Age ain't nothing but a number, and if you need a specific number, your a terrible roleplayer and writer.
Gender - With the tangent and rant I've gone on, the stupidity of needing to establish a gender in an app should be self explanatory. If you can't establish the gender in the description and first few entires, just stop.
Apperance - This shouldn't be as hard as many people round here seem to make this. It's an intro, not a freakin' novel or worse yet - your favorite anime you like to stroke it to. Keep it short; think of it as what a person would see of the character if they passed them on the street. You think they should explain every scar, blemish, and wrinkle right now? *sigh*
Personality - And here we have the final confirmation that this has gone truely off the rails like every other failing roleplay. What is a role play? To me, it's the journey. Discovering not just things, but WHO. Who is this character I created? Who are the characters others have created? And yet, time after time, there is this failing equation that calls for everything about this person to be revealed before hand. Again, what does it matter knowing this before the adventure begins? If this roleplay is worth a shot, and the character is believable, this adventure will more than likely change the entire way every character thinks, believes, and conducts themselves. I challenge you to go through the backlog of role plays in this forum and show me where having a preset "personality" has benefited anything!
Skills - Now that we've derailed, let's just keep going full steam on a totally useless direction. If you can't establish a characters background and what they've been doing with their life for the the past X amount of years, once again - just stop. This ends up usually being a poor excuse for adding in that even though Mary Sue (as you like to call it) has worked as a McDonalds drive thru attendant, she's some how had enough disposable income to buy sniper rifles to train tirelessly on and is now not only the world's greatest shot she also builds robots... oh yea, and she can also do magic. Cause magic, hell yea! One man army all the way!
Biography - What is the point of this or any roleplay when everyone regurgitates the characters biography within the first post? Quantity in this area does not automatically equal quality. A roleplay is about going on an adventure, telling a story, and learning about those involved along the way. You wrote the damn story before the game even started. Make the reader care about Mary Sue before you bore them with useless backstory. Honestly, I never read this until I actually give two turds about any character.
Equipment - Why do you need to set this? What does this even mean? Who the hell walks around with knives, sub machine guns and "stuff" in any world? The beauty and challenge is dealing with situations with the environment and how each character interacts. So your character pulls a wagon fill with every and any item they could possibly need in any scenario. Great, have fun with that. Specifically in a distopian future, somehow military grade weapons and equipment is handed out by an oppressive government like candy. O... K...
Theme Song - These ones really wrinkle my panties. How does this even contribute anything by being required? You like playing this synthesizer crap in the background while you read each other's posts? Oye.
So in closing - I've submitted my character. It doesn't follow your application format. I probably would have passed on this one too after seeing you subscribe to the same tired and over used format. No one seems it ever learn that it's a terrible formula. There is nothing ever left to the imagination, nothing left to discover or explore. Here, I made a world, the people, the problem, and solution - now just press the buttons and follow the prompts. No thanks.
I've shown my writing chops, as well as what I bring to this roleplay iteration. If you want Final Fantasy, full of theme songs and zero G vacuum sealed buxoms, in latex suits, go for it. If you want to have an adventure, learn a few things about everyone involved and maybe create an interesting epic tale that no one knows the outcome of yet, or if everyone will even survive. If you're even remotely curious as to what will happen to Maggie and her father if and when the Rotax Brotherhood return, then I've proved my point; and let's play then damn it.
Plot
This RP obviously
plagiarisestakes lots of inspiration from Mafia's great Hot Zone RP, which now that I think about it, could actually both take place in the same universe pretty seamlessly. Anyways, link to the revival post is there. Some parts of this could also be inspired by Mad Max, in the sense that intense futuristic vehicular fights on the roads are definitely something that's going to be happening in the RP. Plus with the whole theme that the future can be a pretty horrible place to live in. Ideas and suggestions also come from others who've participated in the RP themselves, and can usually be found presented originally in the OOC thread(here).A Recap

Application
Hopefully you had found some interest in reading the huge amounts of text written above.
Either ways, with the applications I've actually decided to try out something new.
All you need to do is(and I quote from myself) write an excerpt(s) describing your character to introduce her/him. DirtDog provides an example here:

Count me in!
Well there is the capital - Valentine City. Romanticized and over-hyped, leaving visitors broke and disillusioned once they visit. It features extravagant architecture, stunning nightlife, and breathtaking views provided you are part of the well-to-do elite and upper crust of society. Otherwise you only see the heartbreaking slums and delapidated inner city... but they never show you that in the brochure.
Trion is a former shell of itself, clawing at the fringes of the eastern wastelands. Trion is the last bastion before the Great Barren - a massive expanse of desert; windwhipped and cratered. Before the collapse of the Syndicate, Maggie as well as many of the residents of Trion, earned additional funds by exterminating the massive desert dwelling creatures in the the Great Barren. This kept the creatures numbers down as to not encroach on the settlements beyond Trion. Now with the Syndicate gone, and no market for desert bug extermination, the desert pests numbers have been rapidly rising. It is beginning to pose not only a threat to settlements on the borders of the Great Barren but also the the towns and cities further inland. These monstrosities have been rumored to have devoured entire settlements. Again, these are only rumors, but perhaps there is some truth to be found in them after all... It is also rumored that the Great Barren was once a vast ocean long since evaporated.

I'm in.
Quote me if you want a reply, and please click that little if I helped you out.
Paxit - A Nation-Building Forum Roleplay. Join us!Rest in peace, Paxit.Alright, sounds good.
Very interested. Dystopian Sci-fi RP sounds great to me.
If I do not reply to my posts, I either have no internet connection, or am busy with college work. Alternatively, I may be writing up the post now. It all depends on the situation.
Perhaps the Rotax Brotherhood? Initially an underground synthetic drug manufacturing and smuggling ring with ties within the Syndicate and some of the high families, they found plenty of recruits and desperate citizens after the Syndicate fell. Consequently, synthetic drug use skyrocketed after the Syndicate lost the ability of round the clock survellience. Countless citizens suddenly lost their meager previous finances and employment due to the collapse and the Rotax Brotherhood was more than willing to supply the demand. They have now expand into all avenues of crime and extortion.
Synth is the main drug of choice on the streets and is characterized as giving the user a sense of invincibility and increased strength and stamina. Before the Syndicate collapse it was often utilized in rare circumstances and lower doses to power workers through long shifts in dangerous industries, but now many simply use it to survive and escape reality. Essentially all the internal organs disconnect and the victim eventually either bleeds to death internally or evacuates their semi-liquified organs out their orifaces. A horrific sight either way.

Once that's done, you should get accepted.
Um... your post has disappeared.
They were much too extravagant to be any of the local mining foremen or even chief executives of any of the mining companies that frequented the shop to negotiate repair contracts for their equipment.

I've got a question. How long has it been since the collapse of the Syndicate? I only ask so that my biography can fit the time line correctly.
Great writing DirtDog, but you might want to create an application(in the opening post) first if you wish to roleplay your character.
An IC(in character) thread will soon be created once we have a substantial amount of people who've already written applications.
Alright, I've almost got my character finished.
