Bio: Jonas grew up in the rough streets of Colombia. He mostly stayed out of trouble though. He had a light step and didn't draw much attention to himself, but sometimes people are looking for a fight. He won most fights as he played dirty and with a ferociousness that scared most opponents. Jonas seems like a friendly guy, but those on his bad side say otherwise. Jonas was an advanced student and got his associate's degree when he graduated from high school. The Colombian government became interested in Jonas and offered him free education as long as Jonas promised to work for them. Jonas accepted. College was expensive, and most in his neighborhood could not afford a good one. Jonas was instructed by combat medics who gave him his augmentations to help him work in the field. Jonas graduated with his doctoral degree and began working as a combat medic. There was much work to do, as Colombia was in the middle of a civil war. One day, a man bleeding from his abdomen stumbled into his tent and collapsed at the foot of Jonas's bed. Jonas treated him immediately, and with the help of the other doctors, saved the man's life. He expressed his gratitude and was soon picked up by a group of shady-looking guys . A week later, when Nate was on his leave, there was a knock at his door. He opened it and was greeted by a punch to the face. Two gangsters beat him up and told him that he had saved a rival gang leader. They left Jonas lying in his house along with their calling card, a dead rat. Jonas quickly recovered because of his augmentations and has been ever since watching his back. He has advanced quickly in his career and is currently a sergeant first-class.
Jonas has been brought to Lynnhaven to attend a diplomatic meeting between The US an Colombia. The real reason he was brought though is to be brought before he promotion committee, which will also be attending the diplomatic meeting. After the meeting, they will evaluate him and his actions and vote on whether he will be promoted to Master Sergeant.

So, I just checked in. After like two days. University classes kept me quite busy throughout the week, and I also had gym keeping my spare freetime occupied. Anyway, might I say two things that come to my concern right now.
The first one being, well you know, thanks for accepting me. It took me two days to think of a character that I would like to portray in this roleplay and I swear to God that I spent my entire one hour onboard the bus today thinking about a scenario for an actual novel focused around this story. I do get carried away by cyberpunk RPs a bit too much but I like it. So yeah, I'll be thinking about that in the time to come.
Also, Epiv, might I say that you don't need to follow what other roleplayers do. My opinion being this; stick to what makes you happy and only that. You don't need twenty paragraphs of a bio to play a proper character, as long as whatever you do is deemed fitting for the needs of the story. I only dedicate time in roleplaying because I freaking love it. And that's all. You still got time ahead of you after all, mate.
The second one has to do with the D&D mechanics. Personally I'd suggest the elimination of the luck factor for good, whilst focusing on a plan of actions that would be executable by a person with a specific specialization in this skill. I'll give you an instance. Claire, Flying's character has a melee combat skill rating of 3, while Iris, my character, has one of 2. If Iris engages in hand-to-hand combat, she can do all of the usual streetfight tricks, and secure her position against her opponent with hard work and a pint of luck. On the other hand, Claire would be able to perform moves that might set the enemy on foot within 30 seconds of fighting, things and moves that Iris wouldn't have ever imagined about their existence.
The negative aspect of rolling dice is that, while you know already about the outcome of the roll in real time, we don't. Which means that you can re-roll in the meantime between rolling for the first time and posting your post, and providing us with another result. I don't want to mean like you can't be trusted, it's just something that I wouldn't allow to pass in my roleplay had I ran one based on dice rolling.
Of course, you can't possibly plan out what's going to happen on every single post, so you can always call on the spot whether a specific action can be achieved by an individual based on their skill rating of the skill that relates the most to that activity.
For you first point, while I agree that I shouldn't try to become exactly like you, I think that learning from other's styles and seeing your favorite parts of everyones to adapt is a good way to improve. Personally, I love getting into gruesome detail about my character. I'm the guy that sits and trys to imagine my character's favorite color, hobby, what music they would like, what myrr's Briggs personality type they would have, etc. The problem is, I have a hard time with getting into all of those details when I start writing. I just forget, you know?))

Bio:
I'm a con artist in that I'm an actor. I make people believe something is real when they know perfectly well it isn't.
-John Lithgow
Dominic was born disabled. He was born with a rare skin condition that caused the skin on the body to rapidly decay as well as causing his the bones in his limbs to stop depositing calcium. The first two weeks of Dominic’s life were spent slowly rotting away in a cradle until his parents were forced to make a decision. Dominic’s life could be saved, but it would be costly. Technology had advanced far enough that the entirety of Dominic’s skin and limbs could be replaced for a high price. Desperate to save the life of their child, Dominic’s parents agreed to pay the price for the surgery. The only problem was that they didn’t have the money to pay for the augmentations, let alone the surgery.
Desperate to make sure their child could live a happy life, Dominic’s parents turned to organized crime. They contacted a local mob boss and requested a favor. They asked for the money to pay for the surgery as well as the augmentations needed to keep their child alive and to allow him to live a long and happy life. The boss agreed and Dominic’s life was saved. 16 years passed and Dominic’s robotic body grew with him thanks to the nanites that were placed in his body to make sure the disease never set in again. He gradually learned how exactly to utilize the social analyzer and linguistics analyzer placed in his brain due to some minor brain damage. Dominic became quite a popular individual in his local community. But, this life did not last forever. Eventually, an old friend came to visit.
One day, the mob boss who had given Dominic his life came and took his life away. He called in a favor from Dominic’s parents. He asked to take Dominic for the next ten years and raise him as his own. Held at gunpoint, Dominic’s parents obliged and Dominic was taken off to a far off city named Lynnhaven, the location of their base of operations. For the next 10 years, Dominic was placed in charge of running a number of heists across the nation, making him a very rich man. His augmentations allowed him to impersonate anybody and everybody in order to get into a place and rob them blind. This eventually caught the attention of the CoL who sent him a message the year after the world began to collapse. Dominic, who by this point was very well off, decided that the ability to potentially get off this planet and have fun while he is at it would help spice up his life.

I agree with Mafia on the fact that removing the luck based system will make the game more fun. There is nothing worse than having a really good plan and having it fail because somebody who was really good at something got a really bad roll.
((Accepted, and thank you for your input. Minor correction, though: Dominic would have no idea who the message was from, so he wouldn't really know about the whole planet escape thing.))

I apologize in advance if I don't post on an RP for a while; I'm still sorting things out.
((Accepted, and thank you for your input. Minor correction, though: Dominic would have no idea who the message was from, so he wouldn't really know about the whole planet escape thing.))
I will make sure not to metagame that fact. It does make for a better narrative, though. If it didn't I wouldn't have put it in there.
((I'd love to join this if you'd have me, I'll post an application tomorrow, and hopefully be able to join. I can already feel a fun experience emerging from this.))
Just to give a short input of my opinion, I do agree with Mafia and Ice. Personally, I feel that a luck based factor coupled with a skill based system will most likely end up badly, with things such as people who have no context in hacking suddenly capable of getting into a highly secured mega-corporation's database just because she/he got a 19 or 20, or a professional martial arts fighter suddenly managing to get defeated by a local thug walking down the street just because the dice suddenly decided to give a bad roll. All this happening while professionals who have been learning their trade for years just stand by, looking very very confused, not to mention the fact that they could do the exact same action but less effectively than the sudden brilliance achieved by a rookie/person with no knowledge in the subject in it altogether, all because of an unlucky roll. I might be slightly exaggerating, but this is basically my other concern not already mentioned by Mafia.
Either ways, I'm still really hyped to get into this. Can't wait.
I totally agree. I wanted to add that a few of the skills on the list don't really make sense with the mechanics presented. It doesn't take someone who is trained to use a gun to look down the sights, point, and shoot. It also doesn't take that much luck either. A gun is a gun. A child with a gun is just as dangerous as a man with a gun. A gun is a gun, after all. As far as Bot OPs goes, most commercial objects are created with ease of use in mind. It doesn't take a man with formal training to operate a remote control, nor does it take that much luck. As far as Social goes, it doesn't take a man who worked as a conman to convince somebody that their idea is right. Argumentation is easy and definitely doesn't require formal training.

While I do agree with the removal(or tweaking) of the luck based system, I've got a few things I'd like to point out. Firearms training is very much necessary. While yes, it doesn't take too much effort to perform, a trained individual could do so much more than a random man who happened to find a gun. Proper reloading techniques, gun maintenance, posture, etc. all factor into the good handling of a firearm. Same could be said for bot ops. If you give me a remote control, I can control an RC car(albeit, not the best at it). Controlling several with the same precision? Much more difficult. Social is subjective. Some people have more sway with others. Training in social skills just kinda helps, I guess. But yeah, I get what you're saying, and I agree. Luck should be a secondary factor, not the deciding one.

Hey, you seem to have spent too many skill points. Remember, Self-made Man has 8 skill points to spend and you have spent 10. You also can have one more piece of hardware if you want.
Couldn't the level of the skill be added to the roll?
It could be but it would not make a huge diference. It only means that people with a higher skill level have a slightly higher chance of not being screwed by the system. The problem most of us are having is that the luck based system is that, with the high chance of failure, there is a high chance that the plan that took days to make will fail because somebody rolled poorly. The big thing that we are arguing for is a more cinematic experience. Currently the game mechanics restrict the freedom that the players have to be awesome.
Ris was born with a scary combination of extreme ADHD and Depersonalization disorder. This combination of a lack of sense of self and an inability to focus caused Ris to poke out as an abnormality compared to other kids. Almost as soon as the symptoms became obvious, corrective augmentation begun.
Skills
Social 2 (Intelligence Augmentation)
Although Ris used to be an abnormality, the extensive corrective augmentations as well as the Muse in his brain led Ris to quickly become comfortable, as well as proficient, with social interaction. Working at a coffee shop also tends to help here and there.
Infiltration 3
As you will later find out, Ris got involved with a rebel group in his teens. This group was known for their ability to sneak up on important figures, which tend to be heavily guarded. When Ris's knack for sneaking was discovered, the group decided to make him into the lead infiltrator, and his skill only increased from there.
Hardware
Cyberarm
During his corrective augmentations, the 'doctors' accidentally injured part of Ris's brain's motor control system, cutting off his ability to feel or move his arm. As Ris was already under medication, they simply replaced the arm, and that was that.
Power Surge
Among many augmentations Ris's group helped him to acquire, and the first of those. Once they had decided Ris would lead in the infiltration, they also decided it would be useful if he could defend himself. So they simply installed a Power Surge augmentation to his arm, giving him the ability to knock people out quickly in fights.
Enhanced Senses/Post-Visual Sight
As before, an augmentation acquired by his group. Everyone in the group had this augment, and Ris didn't see any reason to not follow the crowd. Both of these augmentations where gained at once, and both have served him very well.
Wetware
Neural Tap/Breach
Ris was always fascinated with the mind. When his group was undergoing their grand shopping if augments, and Ris found out about the ability to enter other's minds, he quickly aimed to acquire the ability. The group all decided neural tap would be very useful for communication on missions, but Ris took it the step further of breaching people's conscious mind and entering thoughts into the subconscious.
Intelligence Augmentation
A corrective augmentation meant to make up for the lost social time of Ris's childhood. To this day it helps him to improve social interactions.
Linguistic Augmentation
One of the two true signature augments of the Phantoms. When combined with skinware, this augmentation allows perfect mimicry of a person.
Muse, "Brota"
A muse installed into Ris's mind at a young age designed to help teach him how to be normal. Eventually, Ris and Brota became very close, and Brota constantly trys to help Ris come up with the best solution to a problem.
Nanoware
Skillware, Melee Combat
Something Ris's parents made a very big deal to the augmentors about adding. They wouldn't have their child get beat up, after all, and this Augment has made sure that never happened.
Skinflex
The other signature augment of the Phantoms, further allowing them to replicate others. Probably the more significant of the two.
Oracles
The hail Mary of Ris's augments, this augment was the major one to cure his ADHD and depersonalization diseases. It stopped him from wondering into the mood where he forget he was himself, and helped him improve his focus considerably. It also has helped significantly in Ris's work as a Phantom.
Complications
Killswitch
I will go into further details in the background, but a switch installed inside him by the government.
Edited Memories
Ris doesn't remember ever being in the Phantoms. This, too, shall be further explained.
Appearance
Due to his abilities, this is never conclusive. But currently, Ris is a tall, black-haired man with emerald green eyes, a pronounced, small nose, and defined and jaw-gripping cheeks. His lips are small and pale, and his earlobes are detached. His skin is a pale white, and he is about 5'9". His clothes are business-casual, and he looks like a happy man.
Bio
And then it ended.
The Phantoms, that is.
You see, they had tried to take a step too far by attacking a governor. And this man could detect them, even though they were masters if their craft.
So the governor erased all of their memories of the group, and implanted kill switches incase they came together again. And it all ended. Ris was now just a measly coffee shop owner with little to no memories of his childhood or his abilities.
And then he got the text.
And then it all began.
Equipment
He works at a coffee shop; he doesn't have much to his name.
((All of you have made very good points. I'm going to change the system. It'll go something like this: depending on your skill rank, you'll be given access to certain actions that other ranks could not give you. Example: Melee ranks might allow you to do some advanced moves or give you better technique, along with some bonus damage. Social ranks might allow for different levels of deception, intimidation, or persuasion. Another example: depending your target, Social 2 might stop a guard from killing you, or Social 3 might let you trick a guard into giving you access to a room. With skills like Gunplay, levels might indicate how fast you reload, what guns you can use, or your accurate range. I might give a grid based map for missions, and Gunplay could affect how many tiles you can shoot across. I'm still open to suggestion before we start.))
How freaked out do you think all the characters will be at me being 18? XD

Equipment (optional):
Dominic carries a small briefcase with a number of changes of clothes in it including formal attire.
Other (optional):
I agree with Mafia on the fact that removing the luck based system will make the game more fun. There is nothing worse than having a really good plan and having it fail because somebody who was really good at something got a really bad roll.
((Accepted, and thank you for your input. Minor correction, though: Dominic would have no idea who the message was from, so he wouldn't really know about the whole planet escape thing.))
I apologize in advance if I don't post on an RP for a while; I'm still sorting things out.
If I do not reply to my posts, I either have no internet connection, or am busy with college work. Alternatively, I may be writing up the post now. It all depends on the situation.
Hey, you seem to have spent too many skill points. Remember, Self-made Man has 8 skill points to spend and you have spent 10. You also can have one more piece of hardware if you want.
Name
Ris Sihn, "Shadow"
Age
25
Gender
Male
Background
Mind-Over-Matter
((Like Ice said, you have one more point to spend on hardware. Also, I'm a little skeptical of a 12 year old being able to swim to shore.))
I apologize in advance if I don't post on an RP for a while; I'm still sorting things out.
How freaked out do you think all the characters will be at me being 18? XD
-The Lovely and Magestic RainbowGirl
Whatever I just said, I didn't mean any offense. Unless we're fighting, in which case I probably did.
If I said something was a joke when it didn't seem like one, I'm making an excuse to avoid an argument I know is coming. Instead of telling me how not funny I am and how it didn't seem like a joke at all, just go along with it. Because flame wars suck and nobody wants to be a part of one.
Roughly 95% of Minecraft players hate Villagers and would be very happy if they were removed. If you are one of the 5% who actually like villagers, copy this into your signature.-RainbowGirl
The damn image won't work-screw my iPad!-but you should click this link. Now. Or you'll regret it...because this suggestion is epic.
((Probably not at all. Remember that this is a dystopia. People do what they have to in order to make money.))
