Welcome to Lynnhaven! I HIGHLY encourage you to read the full background, mechanics, and rules below before you make an app, otherwise you will be terribly confused. This is a cyberpunk themed roleplay (heavily based off of an older RP, 2121) where everybody is an agent of an unknown (so far) organization called the COL (Couriers of Liberty). Essentially they go around gathering intel and sneaking into corporate buildings and such to collect resources in order to get as many people off of the dying Earth and to a colony on another world as quickly as possible. You don’t have to be a stealthy guy, but there will be a lot of sneaking. Pure combat or support characters will have their moments. Here is the full background:
The current year is 2137. In the year 2025, the world had exhausted most of it's resources. As a result, even the richest of economies started to collapse. In desperation, most of Earth's countries went to war with each other, thrusting everyone into World War 3. The biggest aspect in this war was the development of the first augmentations. They were very basic at first, with only things such as robotic limbs being available. However, the desire to overtake the rest of the world soon took hold, and new, more advanced augmentations were quickly developed. Entire groups of soldiers, often against their will, were fitted with these augmentations to improve their combat ability. People could also genetically engineer their children, but that couldn't be utilized by armies until after the war due to how slowly people age. By the end of World War 3, space exploration had developed enough to send a spaceship to the edge of the solar system in weeks. People started mining the asteroid belt for resources.
After seven years of war, the first mega-corporations formed, promising to fix the economies of the world. Through space mining (and a few more dishonest methods), they ended up doing just that. The war ended, and at first the corporations were praised for it. However, they also had much influence over the countries they resided in. They started bribing them, and soon enough the quality of life dropped significantly for anyone who wasn't rich. "Security" cameras popped up everywhere, prices spiked, and democracy was basically non-existent. Civilians resisted at first, but to no avail, as the governments had the most advanced technology known to man. Most augmentations were either too expensive for anyone below the upper class, or they were illegal. However, the upper class could get even illegal augmentations if they had the right connections.
In the year 2117, something revolutionary happened. Space technology had greatly improved to the point where spaceships were able to arrive at a destination much sooner with less fuel, and they could carry much heavier loads. Terraforming had also been developed, and even the most barren planets could be turned into lush oases. The moon and Mars were soon made livable by the US, and sprawling cities were set up, where the US government had just as much influence as it did on Earth. The wealthy often took vacations there. Nobody has bothered trying to colonize Venus or Mercury, as they are very difficult to terraform, if it is even possible to do it at all. Another colony was starting development on a planet orbiting Alpha Centauri A. All the basics have been set up, but the colony is still largely unaffected by government influence, mainly due to how long it takes to get there.
In the year 2136, an attempt to terraform Earth to perfection went horribly wrong. A bacteria was created to make Earth more fertile, but it did the opposite: it slowly killed off plant life over a few years. It spread rapidly until nearly all plants on Earth were affected. New seeds and spores that were created carried the disease, and any attempts to find a cure have been futile. Plants were cloned and planted, but they also caught the disease, leading people to believe the disease was airborne. The governments of the world have reassured the general population that a cure would be found, but it is a generally accepted opinion that the world was done for.
As a result, a secret organization called the Couriers of Liberty was formed. Their goal was to gather resources to get as many people to the Alpha Centauri A colony as possible. Through various means, they have discovered that you may have some use to them. They have anonymously sent you a message (the means of which depend on your situation, i.e. receiving a text vs a letter) to go to a specific location to meet. This RP takes place in a fictional US city named Lynnhaven. Your character doesn’t have to have been born there. Perhaps you were sent there for work, you immigrated, or you are simply on holiday.
Rules:
No powerplaying, godmodding, metagaming, etc. Standard stuff.
If you get into an argument with another player for whatever reason, take it to private messaging. Nobody wants to see this stuff.
Violence and romance are allowed, but either spare us some of the details or do a fade to black. This is not only for our sake, but also to make sure you don’t get the ban hammer.
I’ll try my best to keep your character alive, perhaps even using med gel to revive them, but it is possible that some situations might be unsalvageable. Be prepared to make a new app, but please don’t let that stop you from putting effort into all of them.
Try to avoid one liners and tennis posting.
When the RP officially starts, type ((like this)) when posting out of character.
Mechanics: I’ve never tried a system like this before, so please give me some last minute feedback before the RP starts.
This will be loosely based off of D&D, where I act as a sort of DM and tell everyone what is happening as they travel throughout the level. I probably won’t have a turn based system, as it might take up too much time if we have to wait for a few people. Depending on your skill rank, you'll be given access to certain actions that other ranks could not give you. Example: Melee ranks might allow you to do some advanced moves or give you better technique, along with some bonus damage.
Social ranks might allow for different levels of deception, intimidation, or persuasion. Another example: depending your target, Social 2 might stop a guard from killing you, or Social 3 might let you trick a guard into giving you access to a room.
With skills like Gunplay, levels might indicate how fast you reload, what guns you can use, or your accurate range. I might give a grid based map for missions, and Gunplay could affect how many tiles you can shoot across. Range is also affected by what gun you're using. Aiming for specific body parts will do have different effects, i.e. headshots deal more damage, leg shots can cripple them, etc. Aiming for specific body parts is impossible at certain ranges depending on your rank.
With hacking, it depends on your tools, the device you're hacking, and the security on the device. Some devices can be hacked outside of the building. Others require you to be in a specific range. The most secure ones require you to plug in your own device, and sometimes that isn't possible due to the plug shape. Universal Interface allows you to hack these sort of devices with your mind. The more security a device has, the longer it will take to hack, and the more skill levels it will require.
For the cover system, there are two types of cover: high and low. Low cover includes objects like crates, tables, etc. People often have to crouch or kneel when using this type. You expose more of your body when peeking from low cover, so enemies have an easier time shooting at you from long distances. Enemies at a higher elevation will almost certainly still be able to hit you. High cover includes walls, trucks, etc. People can stand up while using this type. When you peek from here, enemies have a harder time hitting you at longer distances. Enemies at a higher elevation can only hit you if they are on top of your cover. When moving out of cover, you will almost certainly get shot unless you are fast/ stealthy enough. Keep in mind that certain cover offers no protection against bullets (like a cardboard box), and enemies can still hit you if they are standing at a certain angle.
Every player has the same amount of health (100, depending on augments), as well as most NPCs (a bullet is a bullet after all). Reaching 0 health through a non lethal wound (a lethal wound is something along the lines of getting shot in the face), you will fall unconscious. A fellow agent will either have to drag you out or apply first aid. Failure to do so means that character either dies after the mission is over, or an enemy will capture them and hold them in a detention center.
When you create a character, you choose a background. This determines how many of each type of augment you can get as well as your skill points and complications. Augments not only serve utility purposes but can also improve your skills. Having 0 levels in a skill means that you will either be very bad at it, or you won't be able to do it at all. Keep in mind that you will encounter certain obstacles that can cancel out your skills (For example, no matter how high your sneak skill is, you will always be detected by a heat sensor unless you have Thermal Chameleon).
PLEASE let me know how I can improve this system.
Application:
Name: (Your characters name. If they don’t know/ have a real name, a nickname is fine. Code names can be included along with your regular name.)
Age: (How old you are. Anything above 18 is acceptable, but anyone above 70 should have augments that let them perform everything an agent should be able to do.) Gender: (Should be obvious.)
Background: (Pick a background from the section below.)
Skills: (List your skills from the section below and your ranks in them, along with any augments that modified the skill level.)
Hardware: (List your hardware from the section below.)

Complication(s): (List your disadvantages from the section below.) Appearance: (Pictures are ok, but written descriptions are useful.) Bio: (Everything about your character that led to this point in time.) Equipment (optional): (Could be anything from a picture to a rifle, but don’t include any high grade explosives. If you’re going to start with some guns, please keep it reasonable. The average person won’t be running around with military gear.) Other (optional): (Anything that didn’t fit into the sections above.)
Appearance: Wilson has short, dark brown hair, a five o’clock shadow, dark blue eyes, and light skin. He stands at roughly 6’1”. He is usually seen wearing a solid black baseball cap, a white t-shirt, a heavy black felt jacket, blue jeans, black boots and sometimes wears a black backpack to carry miscellaneous tools and a spare set of clothes as a disguise.
Bio: Wilson was born into a wealthy family as an only child. As a result, he got to have and experience things that most people would only ever hear of. He went to a private school, and was usually able to go out, see friends, and have fun. The skillware implanted into his brain was great for making new friends. At school he was signed up for a drama class, and frequently participated in the school plays. He was also in a programming class, and practiced minor hacking in his free time. On the side, his family and their friends would teach him how to do various things with his augments like how to sneak, how to aim a gun, etc, claiming it would help to protect himself later on in life. He had a bright future ahead of him.
A short while after graduating high school, Wilson decided to practice his hacking by getting into his parent’s email, thinking he wouldn’t find anything serious. What he found instead was a chain of emails discussing how they would fully integrate him into a crime ring. Confusion swept over him. He decided to look through their room to find more information. After breaking into a safe, he found his birth certificate. Except it didn't say "birth", it said "creation". Wilson felt shock roll through him. Crime ring, creation, sneaking, shooting, hacking... Wilson put it all together quickly enough. He couldn't believe how stupid he was.
Devastated, he ran away from home. This made his "family" angry, seeing as he was expensive, and they had spent many years trying to condition him. After pulling a few strings, they prevented his ID from being used for any purchase in an attempt to slow him down or get him to come back. If they were to find him, they would surely try to capture him. For a few years he wandered and anonymously worked as an independent contractor, collecting information and doing various things for people on his own terms. He often had to steal to get anything he needed. During this time he still somewhat retained his old self, but now he fell into a minor depression. It would only appear every once in a while, but when it did he felt like a wreck. He thought of the state of the world, how nothing could get better, how stupid he was for not realizing he was being used, all his friends he left behind to live a new life, and most of all; how he wasn't a person, he was a tool created for a specific purpose.
About half a year ago, when the COL was formed, Denzel “Scion” Greeves discovered him. Wilson was recruited, and he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a trusted member of the COL. Today, he has been tasked with bringing in some new recruits.
Equipment (optional): A backpack with a change of clothes, a modified smart phone, a silenced pistol, a silenced bolt-action rifle, and a black synthetic hatchet.
Organizations so far: Mega-corporations: None Minor corporations and companies: ORANOSTECH- A company known for dedicating research on creating a perfect soldier. Recently their labs were attacked by what the media described as a terrorist group. Ormacorp Ltd.- Once a successful financial management corporation. About ten years ago it went bankrupt due to poor leadership.
Gangs: The Tech Head gang- A gang notorious for their obsession with augments and their large scale robberies. They are located in the outer slums of Lynnhaven. Crimson- A terrorist group known for its activism against the mega-corporations. It mysteriously disbanded about 7 years ago, splintering off into several different organizations. Other: The Couriers of Liberty- Abbreviated as the COL, they are a secret organization founded very recently, only 6 months ago. Their primary goal is to get as many people off of Earth as possible. In order to do that, they mainly steal from the corporations and occasionally give back to the community along the way. Their end plan will most likely involve either stealing shuttles or bribing higher-ups into giving rides. So far, only the members of this organization know it exists. The Shadows- A mysterious group of three individuals who were known for executing precise, untraceable attacks against the mega-corporations. They were supposedly killed in a government raid a few years ago.
Enemies: None
Again, last minute suggestions and questions are encouraged.
Awesome, will get to making an app soon. A few questions though, Skillware will put a skill to rank 2, but does that mean a person can go from rank 0 to rank 2 using it? Can people learn skills or get new augments in their off-time?

((Skillware sets one skill to rank 2, and you can't put any additional points into it. For example, lets say I have level 1 gunplay. I can't use skillware on it because it already has a level in it.
Also, the skills and augments you get at the start are the ones you have for good. I've thought of possibly having ways to gain augments as the game progresses, but I don't know how to balance that.))
((This is incredibly well-thought. I'm actually very impressed. Count me in, but I have to make an app.))

This is very impressive, but I can't even begin to wrap my head around it. I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be signing up, only because I don't understand it!

Whatever I just said, I didn't mean any offense. Unless we're fighting, in which case I probably did.
If I said something was a joke when it didn't seem like one, I'm making an excuse to avoid an argument I know is coming. Instead of telling me how not funny I am and how it didn't seem like a joke at all, just go along with it. Because flame wars suck and nobody wants to be a part of one.

((Possibly grant one 'upgrade', of the player's choice, at a set interval somewhere down the line. Likely after a particularly large and difficult mission. Or perhaps, if somebody pulls off a lucky roll at something they have no skill-points towards, they could unlock skill rank 1.))

((Can you specify what parts you can't understand?
Also, I'm probably going to add in a health augment in a moment, because I forgot to do that earlier.))

((To my understanding, Technology is based around modifying things and creating them, whereas with Bot Ops you understand how robots work and how to control them. I don't think Bot Ops lets you create robots, so maybe a combination of the two skills would work best. Also, to answer your question from before, cyber limbs can either be blatantly visible or hidden, but certain cameras (and people) can still tell you have them.))

((Fair enough, it was just a thought. I'm just browsing the hardware list and, with my character in mind, I realized I only need, like, one item from it and one or two from the other lists.
Definitely gonna be QUEEN OF BOTS, but working on trying to pick up hacking and infiltration too. The former because TECH GOD, and the latter because most of the missions will probably require sneaking into a place, so the character wouldn't be of much use hanging around outside where they can't use their TECH GOD status to true effect.
I am struggling to figure out which cybernetic choices would affect Bot Ops though. Don't suppose you could list what hardware, wetware and nanoware would affect robo control?))
((Perhaps Power Surge could help if one of your bots are disabled by an EMP. Mnemonic Augmentation, Muse, Multitasking, and Oracles could probably help keep track of them. Reflex package could be used to help keep them out of harms way.

I apologize in advance if I don't post on an RP for a while; I'm still sorting things out.
Appearance: Amy is small at 4'7", and she's skinny as a stick. Probably from years of being underfed. As it is, she couldl probably be behind you, and you'd never notice until she reveals herself. As for her chest, let's just say there's a grand total of nothing there. The rest of her body is relatively the same. Flat. She has the sort of skin that never tans-it goes from milky white to lobster red.
All right. Now, her face. Everything about it is average except her eyes. Amy's eyes are turquiose, and when she smiles, they seem to shine. Of course, she rarely smiles.... So there's that. Her teeth-let's just say that braces wouldn't hurt. They're slightly crooked, so braces would be useful, but she can go without them. Her left cheek has a horrible scar on it that Amy refuses to discuss. Any attempts to talk about it result in an abrupt subject change.
Next comes le hair. Amy has long, wavy, light brown hair. If you look past all the tragedies in her life that have made it awful, Amy's hair is actually very pretty. As it is, her hair is frizzy, tousled, and dirty.
Bio: Amy was born into a relatively normal family. Mother, father, twin sister an hour older than her... She could have had a great life if her mother had been part of it for longer than a few hours. As it was, her mother died shortly after Amy and Kara were born, and their father blamed Amy for it. He hated her with a passion. Kara was her only companion, but even that changed when they went to kindergarten. Kara was the girl everyone loved. Everybody in the class, and some people from other classes, wanted to be friends with her. But the same thing was not true for our little five-year-old Amy. She tried to invite herself into the conversations that people had with Kara, but they just rolled their eyes at her. And "they" includes Kara. Yep, Amy's only friend in the world had left her. In a few days, the other kids had started calling her Lamey. Over time, a grand total of nothing changed. Kara was popular, Amy was an outcast. The two sisters slowly grew apart.
In second grade, computer class became a part of the curriculum. The other students were fine with it, but Amy LOVED it. At home, she was constantly on the computer, coding stuff. She reprogrammed all her favorite video games to her advantage. But she wasn't done there. She learned to hack. And our good little Amy became a hardcore hacker.
Her skills were left unused for years. Then one day, when Amy and Kara were 12, Amy's lunch (soup) wound up on her shirt (someone smashed her tray into her) and the entire cafeteria stared. And after a second, they started laughing. Even Kara. In fact, Kara was probably laughing the loudest out of anyone in the cafeteria. Later that day, after the final bell had rung and the day was over, Amy heard Kara saying to her friend Delilah,"Yeah, it's really awful to have her as my sister. It's just a nonstop stream of badness. She is SUCH a spaz, first off. I mean, seriously! She's holding her tray, and then she just tips it over? Geez. She needs to take some lessons from you." Amy couldn't bear to listen anymore, and ran home.
By some luck, Kara had track team that day, so she wouldn't be home until 4:30, giving Amy two hours to exact her revenge. She snuck into Kara's room, got on her computer, and HACKED. KARA'S. EMAIL. ACCOUNT. Bam. Amy's first action was to see what emails Kara had been sending and recieving. They were so shallow, Amy couldn't even begin to understand what people saw in those girls. Then came the real fun. Amy sent an email to the gossip queen of the school, telling her Kara's deepest, darkest secrets.
Two nights later, the most unexpected and awful thing ever happened. Her father and sister were shot by a murderer that passed her up, probably because he didn't check the closet where she slept. And Amy ran away. She shoplifted for food, slept on the sidewalk in places where she could hide, et cetera. Then one day, there was a mugging. Amy could have escaped had she been aware of it. But she was sitting against a building, eating her shoplifted lunch. As it was, this victim called the police, who saw her. Since she was a homeless teenager, they obviously had to help. True, she'd stolen from stores, but so had thousands of other beggars. And the police had better things to do than arrest all of them. Before morning, she was in an orphanage. She spent the next six years at the orphanage, and she made no friends. Nobody wanted to adopt her. First off, everyone wanted the little kids. Second of all, Amy had no emotion, no bright smile. She was alive on the outside, but her mind was dead. She couldn't think, could barely talk. Nobody wanted the teenage girl with a blank face that showed anger, if anything. Some people thought she was mentally retarded. Word quickly spread throughout her school that Kara Lenner was dead. Rumors spread like butter. She'd fallen into a black hole. A car crash. Gone on a trip to the moon and forgotten her space helmet. Her sister had killed her. It was ridiculous.
Then, when she was 14, the second-worst thing ever happened. Amy had been feeling weird lately, but chalked it up to the flu, since she'd been throwing up, having headaches, and having a fever. But when she passed out at dinner, she had to be taken to the hospital. There, it was revealed that she had a rare, incurable disease. If she wasn't cured in ten years, her time would be up. Amy wasn't stupid. She knew what that meant. Find the cure by the time you're 24 or else you die. Life became much more unpleasant. The other kids at the orphanage kept their distance, thinking she'd make them sick. If anybody was ever going to adopt her, they wouldn't now. She was hidden at adoption days, because,"a sick child will make us look bad; they'll think we mistreat you." Their words, not mine. The only good thing is that she was taken out of school. But that was just more of an opportunity to reflect on how awful she felt. She felt physically awful, and more than that, mentally awful.
Once Amy turned 18, she started working at a nearby restaraunt as a waitress. Soon, she was able to leave the orphanage and move into her own (ridiculously small) apartment. But she barely made enough to pay rent, since she had to work fewer hours than she wanted to-otherwise she'd most definitely fall asleep on the job. Not that she didn't already fall asleep on the job sometimes. All she ever said was,"Hello, may I take your order?" At home, Amy spent her days just sitting on her bed, completely out of it. She walked to her job in a daze, put on her mask of cheeriness for work, and walked home in a daze. This was partially because of the disease, and partially just because of her situation. Amy was contemplating putting an end to it when she recieved a letter in the mail. A very odd letter. It drove all thoughts of death out of her head. She packed up everything she owned and was at the town where the letter had been sent before you could say,"Girl, you're sick and will die in a few years."
Other: Amy always wears a golden, heart shaped locket. Any attempts to look inside it will not be taken well.
(Why did George and I have roughly the same idea?)

Rules:
Mechanics:
I’ve never tried a system like this before, so please give me some last minute feedback before the RP starts.

Wilson Grey- Me
Name: Wilson Grey
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Background: Made, not born
Skills: Hacking 2 (Intelligence Augmentation), Melee Combat 1 (Memory chip), Gunplay 2, Social 2 (Skillware), Infiltration 2
Hardware: EMP Mesh, Memory Chip, Thermal Adaption, Thermal Chameleon
Wetware: Social Analyzer, Linguistic Augmentation, Intelligence Augmentation
Nanoware: Universal Interface, Skinflex, Chameleon Shroud, Cloaking Shroud, Skillware
Complication(s): Broke, Hated

Organizations so far:
Mega-corporations:
None
Minor corporations and companies:
ORANOSTECH- A company known for dedicating research on creating a perfect soldier. Recently their labs were attacked by what the media described as a terrorist group.
Ormacorp Ltd.- Once a successful financial management corporation. About ten years ago it went bankrupt due to poor leadership.
Gangs:
The Tech Head gang- A gang notorious for their obsession with augments and their large scale robberies. They are located in the outer slums of Lynnhaven.
Crimson- A terrorist group known for its activism against the mega-corporations. It mysteriously disbanded about 7 years ago, splintering off into several different organizations.
Other:
The Couriers of Liberty- Abbreviated as the COL, they are a secret organization founded very recently, only 6 months ago.

None
Again, last minute suggestions and questions are encouraged.
I apologize in advance if I don't post on an RP for a while; I'm still sorting things out.
Awesome, will get to making an app soon. A few questions though, Skillware will put a skill to rank 2, but does that mean a person can go from rank 0 to rank 2 using it? Can people learn skills or get new augments in their off-time?
If I do not reply to my posts, I either have no internet connection, or am busy with college work. Alternatively, I may be writing up the post now. It all depends on the situation.
I apologize in advance if I don't post on an RP for a while; I'm still sorting things out.
((This is incredibly well-thought. I'm actually very impressed. Count me in, but I have to make an app.))
"We must call for aid! Executor, bring out the Reavers! ... What? What do you mean we don't have reavers anymore? Then... send the Dragoons! ... Ugh, then what do you suggest? ... What's a Void Ray?!" -Tassadar, Savior of the Templar
((Hey, don't give me all the credit. Most of this was salvaged from an older RP on the forum.))

((Good suggestions. I'll keep them in mind.))
((Can you specify what parts you can't understand?
Also, I'm probably going to add in a health augment in a moment, because I forgot to do that earlier.))
I apologize in advance if I don't post on an RP for a while; I'm still sorting things out.
You had me at "Cyberpunk". I'll be posting an app within the following couple of days.
((My app is up in case anybody cared. You guys can also suggest augments if you want. Build variety is a good thing, but try not to suggest anything over the top.))

((Accepted, but one minor correction: the message is anonymous, and the COL was only founded about half a year ago, so Amy doesn't know who it came from. I suppose I should have specified.))
((Eh, I guess I can't really explain the mechanics well if you aren't familiar with D&D. Sorry.))

((EMPs only affect hardware.))

I shouldn't really let you take points from hardware. The layout that the backgrounds have are supposed to be the basic structures for various builds.

((Another question: Neural Tap allows me to not only send a mental message to another person, but also intercept other neural messages that were not sent to me directly. Is this interception a passive ability, or would I have to activate Neural Tap in order to hear the message?))

((This effect is passive.))
((Perhaps Power Surge could help if one of your bots are disabled by an EMP. Mnemonic Augmentation, Muse, Multitasking, and Oracles could probably help keep track of them. Reflex package could be used to help keep them out of harms way.
Also, I'm just going to go ahead and edit parentheses around my posts. Set a good example for the children.))

Name: Amy Lenner
Age: 18
Gender: F
Complication: Diseased
Background: Self-made (Wo)Man
Skills: Hacking 3, Infiltrating 3, Gunplay 2 (Skillware FTW!)
Hardware: Enhanced Senses, Post-visual Sight, Respiratory Upgrade
Wetware: Mnemonic Augmentation, Neural Tap
Nanoware: Self-repair, Skillware
