Jackal sat on the bus and waited for it to stop. Surprisingly, before long, the bus stopped at another bus stop. Jackal didn't think that a bus run by a rebel group would have to follow city laws. But, he decided to disregard that though. That was, until the older man pulled down a ladder. He told the group that this was their stop and began to climb down a ladder followed by the woman and finally Jackal. It must have looked pretty funny squeezing a man of his size through such a tiny little hole.
Eventually, Jackal was able to squeeze himself into the manhole and he looked around to whatever surrounded him. It seemed like this ragtag group of rebels seemed quite a bit more organized than he had thought. There was a large amount of computers on all of the walls displaying things that he didn't understand. Jackal looked around, trying to find the holder man who he assumed was the recruiter for this group but he was nowhere to be found. He began to search when the man, once again, came down the ladder, followed by a very strange looking man.
He lined the group up and told them they were the best of the best and introduced them to The Rebellion. Jackal thought that that was a very cliche name for a rebellious group against a major corporation but he decided to keep it to himself. The man led the group into the office and told them that SolTek had gained their worldwide monopoly through cheating. Though Jackal already kind of knew that fact, it probably still came as a surprise to the others. What surprised him was their mind control technology. It was like something out of science fiction. A company capable of controlling people's minds, what kinds of implications could this have?
Jackal looked around and muttered two words, "Dear god..." just as the man next to him began to speak. He said that he heard about the Rebellion before and was surprised by their power. He then introduced himself as Krain. "Nice to meet you Krain, the name's Jackal." He stated.
Jason shook Krain's hand. "Name's Jason." he says, "Take it you already knew that." He looks toward the larger gentleman, who looked like he was in the midst of a revelation. "Yeah, I know how it is Jackal, it's pretty big news to hear."
Remi followed into the office, noticing some men definitely checking her out, she pretended not to notice. She had already assumed it was The Rebellion, why else would there be all this technology underground, it was almost too obvious. She read a few of the files, and it did shock her, and definitely creeped her out, thinking they could not only read her mind but control it too. She would fight for that if she had to, no way was she being kept as a puppet to be manipulated however someone else sees fit.
She heard them introducing themselves, and she knew that if she wanted to work with them, they had to get to know each other, so after they introduced themselves, she spoke up. "Remi, I steal things." she said bluntly, straight to the point. "If you need something, get me in there and it's yours" she said, as if offering a deal to the man, which also let them know she wanted to join them, although it was too late to go back when she got on that bus.
Jackal looked at Jason slightly perplexed. Though he had already introduced himself, he decided to do it once again in a much more detailed manner. "People call me Jackal. I am the best damn pilot you're going to find west of the Rockies. It's nice to meet you Jason." Began Jackal as he looked over to Remi. "Nice to meet you Remi, I will make sure to remember that fact next time I need something from another person. Right now, though, I am kinda short on funds."
He nodded to all of the group, sighing to himself as he took another look around the entire office. The facility looked very big and operational, and he could see people outside of the office working hard at hacking and organising other work. Taking in all he already knew and how powerful the Rebellion was, he was very curious as to how he could actually help their cause. Krain actually seemed to be the only person out of all of the newly introduced to not be that surprised by all the new information that Jason had presented, and still seemed to be in a calm mood.
"The facility impresses me greatly, your group organises everything in a very sophisticated manner. However, I would like to ask as to what we can do to help the cause."
"Yeah, the ring told me you were a good thief." Jason says, shaking his hand. "Oh, and before anyone asks, the ring is what I call the oldest members of the rebellion. We've known each other for quite a while now." Jason then turned to Krain, "And to answer your question, the simple fact of the matter is, some things just can't be done remotely from a computer." Jason says, "Some of you are hackers and will be aiding the others here, but others of you the Ring and I have called for are here because we need more physical work. We need people willing and able to physically get behind enemy lines and acquire physical things. We also need a strong defensive force, since SolTek can get pretty violent, and I get the feeling we'd all 'mysteriously dissapear' if we didn't keep our guards up."
Remi laughed. "I would like to see them find me" She said, then to show off a little bit, she flipped towards them. "I am extremely agile, and I can move with almost no noise" She looked towards the others. "I am sure we will get along famously, or at least force ourselves to" She smiled cheekily, she was quite young so she would be arrogant a lot, especially towards her elders.
"I'm sure we will." Jason says, smiling, "Woman able to bend like that, a guy's got to keep her nearby. Anyhoo..." Jason says, bringing up a map with red and blue marks all over it. "The blue marks safe spaces for us, strongholds, bases, supply centers, etc. The red is SolTek points of interest, their strongholds, military bases, server centers, security stations, etc. As you can see, there's a hell of a lot more red."
Krain had nodded towards Jason's phrase: 'mysteriously disappear'. Those two words might've meant something of mystery back then before Soltek came into the picture, but today, what happened to the people really aren't that big of a mystery if you were to dig a bit deeper. Death camps, secret executions, assassinations, these type of things would appear to be completely normal for Soltek to do now if it were to come across a problem. And as to what Jason had actually said, it was true that he wasn't the best in physical work, but he might be able to help them through the use of robots. But that would come in later.
He had observed as the leader continued to explain about the Rebellion's operations and the woman, who had introduced herself as Remi, showed off her skills slightly. Looking at the map, he had smiled to himself once again. The group had been doing their homework, and their network, despite occupying less space than Soltek did, was still quite impressive considering their opponent's strength.
"Indeed. Soltek's influence spreads far and wide across everywhere. Still, it is quite the achievement that the Rebellion has managed to go this far, considering how strong the organisation is."
"Thank you, Krain." Jason says, "We've been in operation for... jeez, it must be around 10 years now. We are nothing if not persistent, as any SolTek exec would agree to." He goes back to the map, "Right, so here, here, and here are the research laboratories that we know about where they could be working on the mind altering tech that we nabbed blueprints of. We don't know how far along they are, but if and when they do start rolling this tech out to the public, our job is going to get infinitely harder. We need to get into there and disrupt their research as much as possible. Ideally, this would mean getting there, wiping all their data and destroying all their prototypes, if any. That will, at the very least, delay them for a long while."
Remi spoke up. "I can do a bit of smashing, with a good weapon." She obviously had nothing but the clothes on her back on her at the time, she did have some money but no kind of weapons so she could go off right away. "And I can't get in, I have seen their locks, that would be need a decent hacker." She had done some of her own research on SolTek, they had their buildings very locked down, and by the sounds of it if she was caught, she was dead.
"Yeah, 'decent' is the understatement of the century." Jason says, "They have the best coders on Earth to ensure that something exactly like what we're trying to do doesn't happen. We've been going at it for ten years, and any time we start to break through, they manage to kick us back out manually and redo all of their security works so we have to start all over again writing new code."
Krain, now looking at the plans and paying attention greatly to the situation, plans and groups, had examined the map fully and now had it memorised in his head. If Soltek managed to perfect their mind control technology, it would mean certain end for almost all forms of resistance. He supposed this would be their main priority: destroying and stopping progress on such technology. However, a small thought did come into his mind, as to how this sort of mind control could be useful in gaining control over the higher ups of Soltek. It was a very suggestive idea to him, but he had ignored it for now, as that looked like it was to be the slippery slope down to hell. Looking back at Jason, he then spoke towards the group again.
"So, I assume that we shall be attacking these research facilities soon? Do we have any strategy or plans made to combat these areas yet?", the man asked curiously.
"We have scouts out there surveying the landscape, attempting to find weak-points in their physical infrastructure." Jason says, "We've mapped out the sewer systems, those being our best method of moving people and equipment due to the comparably minimal surveillance. The nearest access point to the largest facility is here, so we're currently attempting to figure out a way to get from the surface access to the labs without being detected."
"Have you tried a window?" Remi asked jokingly, but after a moment, thought of something. "I have a sort of camouflage that was augmented into me, would that trick the cameras, or the people?" She became deadly serious, and she would show them her camouflage if required, but she doubted she was the only one with it, or at least they would know about it.
"The people and regular camera systems possibly." Jason says, "I wouldn't be so sure about the motion trackers or the thermal scanners, considering that they don't need visuals to operate. We've been screwed over by those systems before."
"Then I am out of ideas, give me something I can do" Remi said, getting bored waiting around here, she wanted to be doing something, rather than listening to what and how.
"We could do our best to disable the thermal systems." Jason says, "That should give you just enough of an edge to get in and out undetected, assuming that invisibility stuff of yours actually works."
He had looked around the table, listening carefully to everyone's plans and discussions. Krain was capable of taking all of this in and continuosly think through possible methods they might be capable of using. He went through possible ways, choices and plans they could use to strategise their way inside the facility and destroying progress they've made there. Krain took a look at certain blueprints that they have been able to get of certain facilities, and tried to find the weak points and routes they could use. Before he had continued though, the man had actually took a quick and cautious look around the room, attempting to see if the place was bugged or if anyone was watching other than them. Convinced that the office was fairly safe, he then continued on to discuss with the members.
"Are you looking to do this as quietly as possible? There is an assortment of ways to get rid of the work they've done in a certain area, albeit some having different consequences. If we were to quietly sneak in and get rid of the data without attracting attention and having no fatalities, as what we seem to be discussing now, it is possible if we do it quickly. As what you said, disabling security systems quietly seems to be our best bet, but there would no doubt be things we didn't see coming. And doing hacks to clear information and research will take a moderate amount of time, so we would need a secure way to make sure no problems arise during that process.
Other than sneaking in through using cloaking or camouflage, it is also possible to access the base by disguising on of us as the official staff. We would need to kidnap one of the members, find out all we can from him or her about the safety measures Soltek takes, and use Skinflex and possibly even create a new set of fingerprints for our agent to use. Though this might take a lot more work, it could possibly cause less complications during the process of removing the information.", after finishing what he had said, he looked down to the plans again, before talking a bit more.
"By the way, I offer my hacking skills to aid the cause. I also have knowledge on commandeering robots, if that helps in this operation.", Krain added.
"Yeah, impersonation does seem like a good strategy." Jason says, "And of course we'd need a backup plan in case stealth fails. Most likely involving copious amounts of guns."
