In this Apocalyptic Scenario, you are thrust into a World that is ruled inherently by our Primate Overlords. Sure this concept idea sounds like it's been scraped from the 'Planet of the Apes' movie franchise, but this story-line is simply meant to serve as a separate incarnation of a world ruled by Apes. Now as you may know, thanks to science and stuff, Primates are the closest living mammal to humans; sharing approximately 98% of DNA with us. Anyways, in this world(Earth), Apes have taken over. As to how remains unknown, but it is speculated that Primate researchers somehow increased the Ape's cognitive function past the typical "four year old" thinking level. Due to this, the apes started experiencing an urge to diverge from the humans. After a war that spanned twenty-some years, the birthrate of Primates in several continents significantly increased. They progressively evolved and adapted to the climates of Northern America, Southern America, Europe, and so on.
Over the span of these war-stricken years, the Apes have developed their own complex system of sign-language. They work together in sophisticated tribes and effectively use Human-made weapons to aid in their conquest, their conquest being to overthrow the Human Empire to escape Primate oppression. The ultimate goal of the Primates is to achieve Ape dominance and stabilize over the Humans for the sole purpose of achieving peace for themselves.
There are four main species of Apes, the Gorillas, Bonobos, Orangutans, and the Chimpanzees. All four Apes coincide together in their established tribes. These tribes clash with the remaining groups of Humans spread throughout the world. Both sides have been pushing to gain stability in their regions. Humans often work together in well organized groups and form practical militia's. Apes work together in separate tribes. They roam most of the continents in a similar fashion as the Mongols.
Because of the twenty-year war with the Primates, the former Human society has collapsed, causing a struggle to create a stable government. Cities are now overrun by the Apes and the vegetation that has reclaimed civilization. Production of foods has halted, forcing the Humans to return to a hunter-gatherer technique of obtaining food. Gasoline cars no longer function due to the cession of Oil mining. Same goes with Aeronautical and boating vehicles. Most Apes and Humans either travel on foot or by horse unless a car with a separate method of obtaining energy has been found. Guns and Ammo are scarce due to a lack on manufacturing, though bullet production has gone up in part due to Humans efforts. Primates have learned simple methods to make weapons and tools such as Bows and Arrows, Spears, etc.
In summation, everything has reverted back to a more primitive method of day to day life. As Humans and Apes struggle to maintain power, nature slowly reclaims the Earth from the destructive nature of mankind.
In this Role-play, you can decide which group you side with. Either the Humans or the Primates. As the story progresses, the players actions impact the war between both sides. This is in some ways a Soap-Opera Role-play and a Strategy Role-play. Your actions will matter in deciding the outcome of the story-line.
