Dragon cave is an internet game where you raise dragon eggs by helping their avatars get clicks and views. As your eggs get more views, they will hatch and mature, but if you expose them to the world too quickly, they can get sick and die. It is your responsibility to take care of your eggs and hatchlings, and help them mature.
Feel free to post eggs or hatchlings as well, but keep in mind - we cannot prevent ourselves from viewing the page if they get sick, and if you do not watch them carefully, they may die. I have lost many eggs to the minecraft forum, and with just signatures, it is easily possible to pull in enough views to kill and egg in under an hour.
Tips and Tricks
It is allowed to post your eggs in your signature so they can get views and clicks
You can disable your signature in posts (either globally in the UCP or on a post by post basis) in order to control the view rate.
The amount of views an egg can have without being sick increases daily, and the threshold for a brand new egg is very low. You might consider waiting a day before exposing them.
Don't leave eggs or hatchies exposed over night, or over any time you can't check on them.

Lots of other redundant, out of place dragon cave threads get started in other places on the forum. If you want, you can help clear them up by adding a link to this thread in your sig.
I have conferred with the mods, and they have agreed to allow this thread to exist. Thank you RiverC, Cliff Racer, ShellOnTheBeach, and LightWarriorK and anyone else involved in this decision for helping me work this out. If you object to this decision, send a PM to RiverC, who gave me permission to make this thread.
I know. <shame> Still, I see one every here and there. I've been waiting rather religiously for a nebula dragon cave drop, and only have 1 egg right now. The paper dragon egg hatched too. I almost named it... =( The site was glitching out for me that day and I was having lots of trouble hiding/unhiding stuff, it would stay whatever it had been before. I tried to hide it but it failed, and ... well ...
So I'm new to this but it seems pretty fun. ; o; How does it work exactly?
Keep posting with that sig and within a few days your egg should hatch into a hatchling. If you see any message indicating your egg/hatchling is sickened, hit actions and then hide and wait about a day till your dragon is better.
Well, you're doing it right. You have your egg in your sig, so it gets views as you post. Just don't forget about it like I frequently do. Remember, all the work you put into making it grow can be nullified in a single 6 hour session of forgetting to hide them while sleeping.
I've noticed the following things:
[*:yy6fuhs0] you may have more success if you wait a day before posting it, as views before sickness seems to be a function of time
[*:yy6fuhs0] just because you hide a sick egg or hatchling doesn't mean it's safe, it may still die later if it is severely over viewed
[*:yy6fuhs0] generally, eggs or hatchlings mature to the next phase at 4 days remaining, provided they have enough views
[*:yy6fuhs0] hatchlings and eggs will not grow unless they are visible
[*:yy6fuhs0] when a dragon matures to the next phase, their sensitivity drops - they can take more views without getting sick
[*:yy6fuhs0] you can sometimes save a sick dragon that would probably otherwise die if you unhide it and allow it to grow (if it is old enough).
How did you even get it to hatch with just 300 views (I clicked it =:cool.gif:? Mine always have like 1500 when they hatch, and typically average about 4000 when they mature.
Watch out about leaving them over night without hiding them especially if you post a lot.
If you get a new egg, let it be for a while because they are very susceptible to sickness in the first day or so.
Take advantage of the fact that this forum gives you the option to not include your sig (this allows you to moderate the amount of views you get while still posting on stuff and not having to hide/unhide every hour)
The sunsong that was in my sig got lucky. I left it overnight after it became a mature hatchling. I woke up the next day and it was sick. It had accumulated more than 1500 views during the night. It had 4 days and 7 hours left before it died. It was sick for 8 more hours until I unhid it at 3:23 left, and it grew to an adult. It probably would've died if it had been sick for another hour or two
I got into it because I saw them in everyone's signature. I like it because they don't require clicks; only views.
So far the only thing I have that would be considered rare is a cheese dragon (I saw a gold dragon on the AP once but understandably it was gone within a fraction of a fraction of a second)
I also picked up a weird tree or something. It doesn't seem to collect views (automatically frozen?). Is it considered rare?
The trees are rare, but more common then the rarer dragons. And you can only have 1 per scroll, so while they are rare, the demand is reasonably low. And they can't be traded, etc...
I have a cheese. Im shooting for a nebula, and will post it when I snag it.

Let's have a discussion. Show us your rare dragons, or discuss game mechanics. Let's try not to have this devolve into a click-begging thread. Dragons usually grow up just fine with few clicks anyway, mine all matured with less than 20 clicks each, just from sitting in my signature.

it was a failed neglected experiment.
and I too am waiting for a nebula.
I would put that thing at the top of my scroll if I got one. And it would never go down.
(it's arranged by favorites)
well... unless a zombie roamed above it.
I also think that this may be more suited to general off topic discussion.
not much of a game.

Anyway, so how does the whole neglected thing work? What were the results of your experiment?

I actually view-bombed one of mine with 4 days left, to no ill efect.
